Globalized Graffiti
Street art; often this is graffiti, stickers, or artistic objects that should not belong. Street art is for the masses. Since cavemen and egyptians took to the walls telling stories and speaking ideas this written word and art has hung around. Anyone can go up to a wall and put something on it. The people who are very good create art or inspire the masses. Graffiti is normally political. Often it is a way to make a name and express oneself. Always though; it is always communication.
When street art is very good it either inspires you or makes you think. Perhaps both. Around the world the voiceless people can take paint or markers and make their mark on the wall. It can just be art or a doodle it does not need to be anything important. The sheer act of that scribble changes the landscape of something.
In America the graffiti points out the greed and the people in power. In Lybia the artists paint about their time in the jail cells. Or Toyko where graffiti is actually encouraged. Graffiti more than anything is globalization. Globalization is the connection of people all over the world. With the invention of the internet street art which used to be a fleeting art could now be shared and live long after it was painted over. People in the UK could see gang art from New York. Banksy and Shepard Fairey are the biggest political graffiti artists but they are not the only ones. With this project I will find people all over the world who express themselves through graffiti art. What does graffiti mean in a community? To a country? Globally?
