Othello Blog #2

We edited our script and found out that we had way too many lines so we had to edit it down a lot. Our script is organized but we still haven’t figured out who is saying what and we haven’t really decided on how were presenting. We don’t want out presentation to be boring but we don’t want to have to do too much because we have a very short time to finish this.
We said we were going to read the lines but I think that wouldn’t be enough. Then we said we were going to use cards to help with the transition between acts and scenes. I want to make the cards that we use interesting. I want to put pictures of who’s talking on each card and what their actions are.

So far my group is working extremely well. We all have lots of ideas that we want to put into this project, it’s just a matter of putting it together though. The first thing that we were discussing was finding the lines. We all wanted to find as many lines as possible so we could edit the script any way we wanted. We divided the acts amongst us and everyone looked for lines that dealt with jealousy. At first it was hard to find any lines that actually saying that someone was jealousy but when I looked deeper into it I found a lot.
Another issue we were talking about was how we were going to edit the script. We didn’t say who would say what yet because we want to know how much we were going to need first. After we edit our script things will become clearer.

I've finished my rough draft of my elevator pitch and now I'm putting together my ideas for my action plan. I'm almost finished all of my blogs so I can cross that off my list. I've also found a new change agent since none of my other's contacted me. I am going to get in touch with an agency named Children's Choice.
I haven't really been having any major complications except for my change agents and I'm finding new information about child abandonment. Just two days ago an one day old baby was found on a lawn wrapped in a blanket inside of a trash bag. The police went door to door trying to find information about the baby's guardian but they were unsuccessful.
Child Abandonment # 7

Nobody really knows how prevalent child abandonment is because many cases go unreported. At a site called Safe Child they say that many of these cases are reported as neglect or abuse. They also state that," In 1998, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services surveyed major newspapers and found 65 reports of abandoned babies in 1991 (eight found dead) and 108 in 1998 (33 found dead). Although state laws differ, all states currently have laws against maltreatment, abuse and/or neglect of the baby (i.e. leaving a baby unsupervised and unprotected)."
Another site I found had a account on there about a young girl. Growing Up Scared stated,"In June a child named Michaela Robinson was born addicted to cocaine, after a pregnancy in which her mother had sought no prenatal care. The addicted infant underwent withdrawal and then boarded for a period at Temple University Hospital. Social workers, meanwhile, were having difficulty making contact with the mother, and when they did, she was "very unaccommodating." The woman had been under investigation by the city's Department of Human Services since 1988, because of tips that she was caring improperly for her other three children. Nonetheless, the mother was persuaded to take Michaela home."
In this case the child wasn't physically abandoned but the mother abandoned her duties of taking care of her child. When this happens, most of the time the mother believes she's doing the best she can and she is. Her best may not the best that anybody else can do, so instead of her doing what was best for the child she did her best and that's not healthy for the baby.
Child Abandonment # 6

Kallooar v. The Queen states, "The word "abandon" as used in sec. 15 (1) (a) of the Game Ordinance of the Northwest Territories, 1960 (2nd Sess.) ch. 2, though not defined in the ordinance, must be given its ordinary general mean- ing and not a restricted meaning. It signifies not merely "leaving" but "leaving completely and finally, giving up all concern in." Thus, a hunter who has killed game does not "abandon," so as to be guilty of an offence, any part of it which he cannot immediately carry away, if he intends to return and remove it."
The root of abandon actually goes further back to Latin. The roots have to do with how people abandoned their unwanted children to sacrifice them to the gods, or the children were sold as slaves for food. To abandon someone or something is a selfish choice in my opinion. If you decide to leave someone to survive on their own without anything then you are a coward and should have never had the responsibilty in the first place.
There are many definitions of abandonment. Some are srtonger then others, especially to the people that have been affected by it. My definition of abandonment goes as follows:
Abandon-
The selfish act of leaving someone for unexplainable reasons, giving up, being a coward.
