SLA’s Girls Soccer Team won today in a game to determine the winners of the B-division 2009 soccer season. This was a very productive game after the unfortunate knee injury of Jasmine Hollerway, a key player for the SLA soccer team's defense in a game earlier this week. The game started off rough with neither team scoring a goal for the first half of the game. It seemed to be that the ball was constantly being pushed back and forth with a few close calls that the defense handled with the help of Christine Walden who seemed to always be where a quick defensive play was needed.
With the defense tight and confident, all that was needed was an opportune moment from the offense. But all hope seemed lost when the opposing team, the Overbrook Panthers, scored the first goal of the game during the second half. But this setback didn’t mean anything in the minds of the Lady Rockets. Freshman Anna Roman saved the Rockets season with a last minute goal tying the score and causing the game to be pushed into overtime. After a quick pep talk from the coach, Matthew Baird, the team was back on the field. While in overtime the game seemed as though it would last forever. The ball was being passed back and forth with no luck of a goal for a number of minutes. But then, a strong kick from the defensive end pushed the ball in a great position for Natasha Ashby to pass the ball to Gracie Wagenveld who then kicked the ball clear past the goalie, winning the game.
