Q1 Benchmark Project English
Submitted by Cody Nichols on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 14:58.
In this Benchmark Project we had to choose a thesis statement that we wanted to pursue on the topic of the mistreatment of African American Slaves, or just a topic that our teachers gave us. We edited in class, and showed what we need to change or correct in our essays. In order to complete my project had to really dig deep into the issue of slavery at the time in order to come up with a good thesis statement to pursue my essay. I recieved a lot of help from my peers. If I were to do this project over again I would go deeper into the thought process and go deeper into the book as a reference to help people better understand my essay.

Q1 Benchmark-Kindred Essay
Submitted by Jennifer Albright on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 14:44.
For this Benchmark Project we had to choose a topic that relates to the book "Kindred". I chose to do a project on the way women were treated going from the times of slavery (where most of the book takes place) to modern times. We stated a hypothesis and used examples to support our hypothesis using our own knowledge and facts from the book. I feel very strongly about the discrimination of women and how women have always ben seen. That's why I chose this statement. I gathered information from the web, "Kindred", our class discussions, and my own knowledge of how women are seen. If i could do the project differently I would add more specific examples.
Q1 benchamark Kindred Essay
Submitted by Sophia Moreno on Wed, 12/12/2007 - 17:49.
The Q1 benchamark assignment wa to write a 5 paragraph essay about one of three choices or our own Idea. I chose to talk about different levels of power women had in the book, Kindred, compared to the men/ power over the men. We wrote most of the essay at home, but then had a full class of editing time. The teachers told us which words we should not use, to make our language more powerful. The project took about a week or a little more. I would not change anything if I could go back and re do it. The only thing I might change would be the corrections that Ms. Weinraub and Mr. Chase made when they graded it.
