Q1 Benchmark

This Benchmark project was focused on the book Kindred. We had to choose a topic to focus our 5 paragraph essay on, from 3 given topics.
To complete this project we first had to make a rough draft graphic organizer focus on the main idea of our essay, and the supporting points for our main idea. We had to edit and revise our graphic organizer, and then turn that into a 5 paragraph essay.
If I would do anything differently, I would have maybe chosen another topic. I chose the topic that- in my opinion- would have the most obvious answer, but if I would do it again, I would have a chosen a more subjective topic.

Our english benchmark consisted of a 5 paragraph essay with a chosen theme that was based on the book Kindred. I chose to write the pro's and cons' about the protagonist Dana, having lived in the 1970s before being transported to the 1800s. My paper argues both sides, stating that at some times it helped her, and at others it hurt her.

During the first quarter, we read Octavia Butler's Kindred. Once we had reached the end, we were required to write an essay that focused on the relationship between characters in the book, roles protrayed by the characters or how the main character's previous experience affected her later in the book. We also focused on essay structure, proper grammar, quoting the text.
I focused on the role that Dana, the main character, protrayed throught the book. I argued that the role of a black women ahd imporved from the time of the Ante Bellum South to 1976 and today. Most of the writn took place at home, but we worked on editing in class. This project took about a week to complete.
If I were to do this project again, I would have created my own topic because it would have made my essay more unique.

It was about the book "Kindred" and think of a topic that relates to it. I wrote about how Dana is a modern woman for the present and goes to the past to see if being a modern woman helps her in hte future.
