Element Printmaking Reflection

My element is Silicon, which is the 14th element. Silicon is a chemical element that was first isolated and described in 1824 by Jöns Jacob Berzelius, a Swedish chemist. Silicon is used in many common materials such as, computer chips, glass, and construction materials. I got the idea for my imagery from learning about the history behind my element. The man shown is Jöns Jacob Berzelius and the design behind him is a computer chip. To make this print I tested out a couple of different designs until I found my favorite. I made a few sketches and then chose one to use as my stencil. Then I used the brayer and ink to print my images. And construction paper to matt. If I were to do it again I would make my stencil a bit more complicated, maybe make Jöns Jacob Berzelius more detailed or less cartoony. I enjoyed designing th e stencil the most from this project. It was fun to do research and try to come up with designs from the small bit of information I had.
