Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with man from Mexico named Vidal. He actually messaged me first and I decided to continue the conversation. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned that he like sci-fi, mystery, romance, and just about every other kind of movies except for cartoons. We also talked about areas where I thought I needed work in Spanish. He gave me examples of times when certain tenses are used in everyday conversation. I also learned that he nearly perfected his English accent by listening to music. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
My goal was to find examples of when the subjunctive and imperfect tenses are used in everyday conversation. This conversation was some what helpful in meeting that goal. Vidal had some difficulty thinking of specific examples, but was able to give me a few that helped me get the general idea. What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did well with being able to reply in Spanish and not pausing to ask what he meant or use the dictionary for every word I did not know. I was able to use context clues to get the general idea of what he was saying and respond. What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I still need to work on not using WordRefrence as much. I also need to solidify my understanding of ser v. estar. There was a point in the conversation where I was confusing the two verbs.Conversation

How do you anticipate your partner will respond to your questions?
I think that she (they) will tell me it's just the way it is and how they were raised
What are you looking forward to about this conversation?
To understand why are the same words have different meaning depending where you go in the spanish world.
What are you nervous about?
Saying things wrong in spanish or not knowing how to say some words or the meaning of some words.
Reflection questions
My mother and my grandmother because spanish is their main language and they have a lot of experience with spanish
What did you learn about your partner?
I learned that my partner, Felipe, is from Lima, Peru. I also learned that Felipe likes to watch American Series. He doesn't like reality shows, including the Kardashians. He likes comedies and also serious shows. He likes 2 and a Half men, just like I do. He watches American Idol and is routing for Jessica Sanchez to win. What did you learn from them?
I learned that American shows do get watched in Lima, Peru. I thought that they would have their own television series to watch but American series are aired there. What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that what I like to watch on television will not always be the same as others. Others might not enjoy these shows like I do.What were you surprised about?
I was surprised at the fact that American series do get watched in other countries such as Peru. What are you proud of?
I am proud that I got to achieve my goal of researching what type of television is watched in other countries. What follow-up questions do you have?
Do other countries watch the same movies as Americans? What will you improve on for next time? How? s
B. I found the negative space by just seeing the outer layer of the picture. The negative space is the the picture that seems to be the picture but it's really just the outline of the actually object.
C. I think it helps an artist because if an help you see your drawing in a different point of view or it can help you see a picture in an abstract type of view as well.
D. Yes because again as I said, It can help you see your picture in a different point of view.
1) Negative Space is the sketch and or drawing that shouldn't be drawn by someone. This can be known as the background of an image.
2) To find where the negative space is all I did was realized what the outer surface of the object is in which basically to me is know as the outer layer. This what I did for the first project. For the second project it's very difficult to explain therefore it's better for people to visualize it instead.
3) Seeing this type of art made me see that art can really be exact and perhaps precise. This made me change my opinion about art because this shows that art is something that needs to be drawn almost close to being perfect.
4) Yes, this does help the artist because it helps me see the difference between an image and just random space that actually makes up the particles of any image.
A. Negative space is the space between an object, and not the actual object. When dealing with negative space, you always draw the actual space around the object but not the object itself.
B. The way I found negative space in my stool drawing, was I just looked around the stool, and drew all of the empty space surrounding it. The way I saw negative space in my cut out was, I looked at how the cut out had the 2 different colors, and saw how the cut out showed the space that was actually between the cut out.
C. The reason it helps an artist to see in negative space, is it allows them to see every single detail not only in the thing they want to draw, but also around it, causing you to be able to see every single detail.
D.I believe seeing in negative space does enhance a drawing. With seeing in negative space, you see things in a different perspective and are able to see every single detail of a drawing.
Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner
- I spoke with Enrique Matos and I picked him because he is from Peru and is trying to learn Spanish, as well as that he is 19 so close to our ages. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
- I learned that he loved to eat and enjoys anything that is good, but he can not cook himself. He also knows how to keep a conversation going. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
- I think I primarily enjoyed talking to him because he knows how to talk about something that I enjoy myself. He is able to keep this conversation going and can say more than just the little thingsWhat specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
- I think I did well responding to him and asking him questions in order to keep this conversation going. We were able to have a civilized conversation and I know for a fact that this was the best person I talked to so far. What are 5 questions related to your conversation goal that you can think of ahead of time to ask your partner?
Have you ever traveled outside your country?Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with Vidal from Venezuela. I Choose him because he was learning English but was a spanish native. He also started talking to me first so I thought why not create and continue the conversation. He also likes sports like me.Also his conversation was getting a little more interesting than the others because, he ask questions and helped me when I was wrong.Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner:
- SharedTalk; Peter
What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
- I learned that Peter is 20, doesn't go to school/college and wants to improve his english while learning russian. He's from a city in España that can be pretty at times. He's read a novel about my city and he was into anime but never really wanted to learn japanese./How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
- I think this was helpful to me because i got correct on errors that I make frequently and now I know for the next conversation, how to say different things. My goal was to do as much as i could without the translator which i tried but couldn't. I could understand what he was saying for the most part but when I tried to say something back I couldn't always remember the right word or conjugation so I had to look it up.What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?
- Quiero continue talking to people and getting comfortable because I'm noticing that the more I talk to people, the more words I have to look up, use, and then repeat until they're known to me. Things like telling people "Soy de un cuidad en los Estados Unidos" is now very easy and I don't have to look up those words. They've been memorized from repetition. My new goal is to have a truck load more conversations so that phrases become more known to me and in turn i can have less need for the translator.Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner
- I spoke with a woman name janet and I chose her because she was also trying to learn spanishWhat did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with the same person I did for the first blog. His name is Alex, and he's from Columbia. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
For this conversation, we were speaking about a few different things. He was telling me about how he admired the United States... a lot. And we talked about his favorite food... which happened to be American food, and Columbian food. And we talked about movies. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
With this only being our second conversation, I wasn't as nervous as before. But, he noticed that my responses were better than before. I feel a bit more confident in asking questions and replying. What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did better with asking questions, and being able to reply without much hesitation. What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I think I should start making a little list of things to talk about during the conversations.I spoke with Thea a senior at SLA. She is one of my friends who is fluent in Spanish and I felt comfortable talking to.
What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
She is reading a new comic series, I learned that talking to someone you know vs someone on livemocha is easier to keep a conversation because you know the basics about them.
How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
I learned new things about Brazil and asked questions as much as I could about her and her college. Although Some stuff I sai in english because she was learning english.
What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?
I did well asking questions about her college and how she likes it. Wanted to ask others but she had to go when I thought of a good question.
