Do You Play Basketball

Do you play basketball? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that question. It’s because I’m tall for my age over 6’2’’ and only 15. One day last summer I was in the driveway playing basketball with some friends. This was kind of new to me because I'm more of a baseball guy. However, ever since my growth spurt last summer, people assume that I have to be a good basketball player.

It was 10 to 12 and my team had 10 points. I ran and dodged players until I got to the 3-point zone. With 5 seconds left in the game, I had a clear shot and there were players rushing at me I took the chance and shot the ball through the air. It hit the rim and circled and circled… and missed.

The players on the court were surprised.

“Yo how did you miss that you’re the tallest one here” My friend Mike said

“I told you I’m more of a baseball person I don’t play basketball a lot”

“Your 6 feet tall”

“I know I’m just not that good at basketball I told you already”

“Oh yeah you did, Oh well I’ll see you tomorrow”

“See you”

It’s been happening a lot lately. Most of the time I just tell people no I don’t play basketball and they just drop the subject. I love being tall most of the time and the cons aren’t just that question I have to duck to get down the steps at dad’s house and I can practically hit my head on anything. But some pros are I can reach most stuff and I can get on any ride at an amusement park.

I can’t blame them, actually I don’t know who to blame I thought I got my height from my dad but I’m taller than him and it can’t be from my mom because I’ve been taller than her since 7th grade, so I don’t know.  Now wherever I go people take one look at me and instantly think that I play basketball. I guess that when people see one person who looks a certain way they set expectations for that person without knowing anything about them.

I’m kind of good at basketball just not as good as other people would expect. I like baseball and soccer. Sure I could probably dunk the ball if I wanted to but I don’t play enough to know how especially if I cant reach the rim.  I’m used to it now but it’s still annoying when so many people who know I don’t play keep thinking I play. That’s just wrong in some cases. It’s a stereotype all tall people must be good a basketball that can mess up a friendship before it starts. For example If a coach saw me and drafted me onto his basketball team and I make friends before a game once I start playing and people see that I’m bad at this then I would start to lose friends. To sum this up I don’t like the stereotype that all tall people are good at basketball because it can ruin things like friendships before they start.

Spanish Song

Jakobi Martin-Howard

Water Stream

My song is about where i’m from, and what goes on in my part of philly, from food, to sounds i hear.
I learned that i’m capable of learning to write a song, even in a different language.
I’m proud that i wrote a song, all by myself, and i completed it.
I wouldn’t change anything, if anything i’d make it more detailed.
I’ve tried to work the Garage Band, to record my song, but i can’t figure out how to use it, ive made the beat and everything, but everytime i record me singing it, i can’t find the file, i’m hoping you can help me with that tomorrow.
And i have a slight problem, i dont know what SLATE is.

"215 Hermanos"- Tito y Mateo

2. This project was probably my most "active" project ever. We had to make a song about where we were from, and the good thing was, you could have interpreted it however you wanted, whether it be intellectually or physically. For a little extra umph in your project, you could make a video to incorporate with your song. In this project I actually learned how to become a better photographer and what to look for when trying to make a montage of one specific idea. I also learned that I am a lot better at spanish than they were last year. I am really proud of how well I was able to speak in spanish and flow, as well as the fast tempo I used in the song. That is not edited, that is actually me rapping in spanish! If I could change this project, I would want to get some footage of me and my bro Mat in, but the video of Philadelphia is on of the main highlights of my spanish video. I think it goes really well with the music and what the music represents.

Keiasha Lumpkins ( Vengo Vengo....)

What is your song supposed to communicate?
Wanted to communicate who I am and where I am from.

What are you especially happy about with your first draft?
Yes because I took my time and made sure that every grammar was right. Also, I had got help from my peers.

What would you like to improve about your refrán?
I want to make it more detailed. Felt as thought my refran wasn't creative enough.

What did you learn?
More of learning words over again and getting them familiar in your brain. Also writing songs that involves spanish words that I never knew.

What are you like/dislike about your product?
I like that I used a spanish instrumental and made it my own. Some things I think that I dislike are the way I pronounce some words.

If you were to do this project all over again, what would you change?
Would write about something else that would make my song more creative, also challenge my self more.

vengo de america- danny wirt

In this project we created songs about where we are from. I learned how to use garage band and how to say where i come from. I am especially proud of being able to produce the song. If i could change something i would maybe make it longer?

vengo de America
la tierra de el libre
es no perfecto
pero es mi casa

vengo de un amor por fútbol
mi número es dieciocho
fútbol es mi pasión
pasión por la vida

Vengo de cheesesteaks
en la ciudad de Filadelfia
donde la gente se ríe
las personas vivan libres

vengo de America
la tierra de el libre
es no perfecto
pero es mi casa

De La Alma: Mecca Sharrieff

I learned that I don't have to write all my poems in english (the poem turned into a song). I am proud that I could put together meaningful lyrics and that it made sense. I would probably change some of the difficult parts to sing in spanish, because in english it's much easier to hit certain notes in spanish (because of the different vowel sounds).

Mi madre tierra by Pauline

  • What did you learn?
I learned new ways to describe things and I also learned that I am a horrible singer.
  • What are you especially proud of?
Finding out what I wanted to say in my song. Other people might have some difficulties on how they wanted their song is going to be talking about. For me, that was the easiest part and the best part because I can just picture the Philippines.

  • What would you change if you could do it over again?
My voice! Also the melody of the song. I was going to aim for it to sound like a lullaby, but it didn't worked.

La risa de los niños pequeños

    Los sonidos de los coches

    La armonía de las aves

    El susurro del viento

    ¿Puede oír esas cosas?

    Hola chico

    ¿Ha estado en la Filipinas?

    ¿Puedes oír el océano?

    ¿Puedes sentir el viento?

    Bienvenidos a mi madre tierra!

    Las islas amada

La gran vista de las montañas

    El flujo de las cataratas

    Las olas del océano

Los campos de maíz de alto

    ¿Ha estado en la Filipinas?

    ¿Puedes oír el océano?

    ¿Puedes sentir el viento?

    Bienvenidos a mi madre tierra!

De done Vengo Yo? Manna-Symone Middlebrooks

This project asked students to create a song that answered the question, ¿De dondé vengo yo? (Where do I come from). We first listened to the song 536 Cuba by Las Orishas, a Cuban hip hop group. We were then sent off to find our roots and put then to music.
From this project I learned that the song writing process is a difficult one. It takes time, effort, and a ton of patience to be able to write, compose, and sing a song.
Honestly, I am most proud of the fact that I finished and was able to create an acceptable product.
If I were able to do this project over, I would find a already established instrumental track instead of making my own.

The song can be listened to here.

Me Encanta Aqu: Sierra Dinvil

For this project we had to create a song in spanish that answered the question "Where am I from". We did this by first writing a song and then recorded it on a program called garage band, and then imported it.

From this project I learned how to work garage more efficiently and learned a lot more about conjugated verbs.

I'm proud of my overall song, I think it's really good. I worked really hard on it, and hopefully you can tell.

If I could do this project over I would try and  figure out how to make my vocals louder.

Note: when listening to the song, make sure you use both headphones or else you wont hear it. :)

Me Encanta Aqui

Chorus

Mi familia viviamos en jersey
Luego nos mudamos en philly
ahora me encanta, me ancanta aqui

Verse 1

  • This is just a song talking about the things I think Philadelphia gave me.
  • I learned how to make a song, how to more effectively use Garageband, and proper conjugation .
  • I'm definitely proud that it doesn't sound like a hot mess, especially since I was singing in Spanish. I also like the length, it's almost the length of most songs these days, which I'm really impressed with.
  • I think I'd spend more time trying to fine-tune my Spanish pronunciation, mainly because I tend to stutter on most of the words I say. If I get used to saying the words, I'll be more comfortable saying them, and less likely to stutter.
Spanish Song 4

Mi Vida: Isabella Tognini

Basically, my song is just about how I'm from Philadelphia and how my family and friends play a big part in my life. I mention how there are time where I don't want to leave my family.

Not only did I learn new vocab, I also learned how to work GB a bit more.

I'm exceptionally proud of my beat, since it took me about four hours to figure out from just listening to the original song over and over again.

If I were to do it over again, I think I would try to write another verse or two.

Lyrics:
Nunca me  izquierda

Me encanta este lugar

Amo a mis padres

me da la empresa

Te diré todo lo que

mis amigos están aquí
mi vida está aquí

mi familia está aquí

Yo no creo que pueda

las cosas que escucho

las cosas que digo

todo viene de mi corazón

Yo crecí en Filadelfia

mis amigos están aquí
mi vida está aquí

mi familia está aquí

Yo no creo que pueda salir

Mi Vida

This project was very fun. I was able to write a song that is a short reflection of my life. I was able to explore different ways to express my life in Spanish. I learned a few new words and I also learned how to work with some new programs. I learned a lot about other people as well from reviewing their work.  I'm proud of my song because I'm not a singer and it took a lot of courage for me to preform this. I think I would change my lyrics if I were to do this project over again.

yo soy de un lugar
donde las cosas más simples son buenos
donde el amor es profundo
donde las sonrisas son amplias

la gente habla
pero no me escucha
yo quiero tener diversión
cariñoso la vida es mi afición
joven y divertida

yo soy de un lugar
donde las cosas más simples son buenos
donde el amor es profundo
donde las sonrisas son amplias

soy de un lugar
donde las personas no van más
quiero ir lejos con mi vida
pero esas noches de verano
son amados

yo soy de un lugar
donde las cosas más simples son buenos
donde el amor es profundo
donde las sonrisas son amplias

CASA ES NUEVA YORK

My project was the simple song and it explained how I feel about my birth place, New York, and how I consider that my true home. I can't wait to go back and I sung about all the reasons why I want to go back.

I learned that I'm still no good with singing in spanish and with using garage band. It's also very difficult to rhyme and sing in a different language.

I'm really proud of my overall message and I that I actually completed it because I struggled with this assignment. It didn't turn out tooo bad..

I'd use simpler words that are easier to pronounce and I would pick a beat first because it's harder to find a beat after you have written the song.

Perdo de menos mi casa
la energía, la energía,
Nueva York
Un día volveré
Perdo de menos mi casa
el ruido, el ruido
música para mis oídos

Nunca duerme no sueña,
la riqueza es vivos
Estamos vivos, cobran vida
No creo que sólo actúa
No espere
Haz las maletas una escapada
Escapar

Perdo de menos mi casa
la energía, la energía,
Nueva York
Un día volveré
Perdo de menos mi casa
el ruido, el ruido
música para mis oídos

Nunca se siente bien
que estar en mi propia
mi pequeña familia
es todo lo que he tenido

Perdo de menos mi casa
la energía, la energía,
Nueva York
Un día volveré
Perdo de menos mi casa
el ruido, el ruido
música para mis oídos

El Mejor de La Zoo: Ronaldo Jackson

  • The project tells of my love of the Philadelphia Zoo, the place that feels like home to me. It also tells of my "extended family", the inhabitants of the zoo.
  • I learned that writing a song is indeed fun, but also challenging. When it must be writing in a foreign language, the difficulty increases.
  • I am especially proud of the vocabulary that I used in the song. I felt as though it was somewhat creative.
  • If I could redo the project, I would have spent more time at home working on it. This is because I feel that although we had plenty of class time to work on the song, the more time, the better.

This song is telling about how much I love my family. I came from them, they made me who I am. I really liked my chrorus it sums up all of my feelings. The song explains how I feel about how I grew up and where. If I could, I would change around some words in my verses.

---------------------------------------------------------

Out of this project there were many things that I gained. The number one thing I go out if tthis was a chance to use and, expand my vocabulary. I got the chance to look up words I thought I never would use in Spanish. I always got to exercise my speaking skills and learned that although my Spanish isn't great I can still do things with the knowledge I do have. There isn't anything that I'm especially proud of for this project. I feel like I did okay with it but many things could have been done differently and better. If I were to do this project over again I would do a lot of things differently. Firstly I would have taken more time  finding a good flow to the lyrics and stead of doing it like a spoken word. I took too much time being indecisive on picking a song. Also, I was having a lot of trouble working garage band and ended up getting frustrated with it which made the final product not as good as it could have been.

Vengo en El Mundo sin Mi

Proyecto Uno

From this project I didn't learn much. It was more of a refresh of Spanish 2 for me, because now I remember a large chunk of what I was taught in Spanish 2.

I like the whole thing. It was a pretty fun project to do. I'm proud with my overall product, and that I had enough time to put into a video.

If I were to do it again, I'd redo my lyrics into something that flows a bit better.

Lyrics:
Mi bis-abuelos vinieron de Hungaria,
Mi abuelo vino a Filadelfia
Mi famiilia y yo vivimos en Filadelfia

Vengo De Roxobrough! Allison Patterson y Maria Lattore

This project was about where we are from and how that effects who we are today. We learned about ourselves as people and how our cultural backgrounds overlap living in Roxborough. We also learned how different we are from each other because we are from other halves of the world. We are proud of how fast we were able to pull the song together. We both had major time issues with work both in and out of school but in the end we were able to finish the project. If we could redo this project we would both like to spend more time on the recording of the project.

My Song

Mirame a me, Cecelia Baez

Well I am very into poetry, so I made my project very slow and something you can relax to (what my poetry is like) in order to maybe grasp how the video would connect to it. I learned a lot of pacing of music and how you don't actually have to sing for something to be a song. It really refreshed some of my memory to past spanish that I learned but haven't seen in a while. I am proud of how it flows together very softly and nicely. I don't think it's easy to hear me, but if I made it any louder it would have just sounded over bearing and not as I wish it could.

Yo veo, veo

Qué haces ves?

Yo veo a Filipina mirando me

Yo veo el mundo mirando me

Que viene de maddie

. i created a song about where i was from.

.i learned that i cant have no musical talent at all

.i proud that i had everything at the right check points.

. i would pay someone else to sing for me... i would try to make it flow together more

.Soy de Filadelfia,
casa de mi familia.
Me encanta la ciudad,
vengo del amor

no importa si me voy
siempre será de Filadelfia.
se aparte de mí.

Yo soy de una familia numerosa.

Pero los quiero.
mi familia me hizo quien soy.
Yo amo a los muchos
la casa pequeño
pero lleno con amor.

Soy de Filadelfia,
casa de mi familia.
Me encanta esta ciudad,
vengo del amor

no importa si me voy
i siempre será de Filadelfia.
se aparte de mí.

De donde vengo yo? by Tyler Morales

-My lyrics are about my school life in New Jersey which is where I was born and lived at till I moved to Philly in eighth grade. Its also about my name and what i thought of New Jersey. I talked about my best friend Tyler Roman.
-I learned how to use more words in sentences and not just learning them individually.
-The first verse because I said how i felt about the school.
-The background music because i used random background music.

Lyrics:

Mi nombre es Aiert,
Soy de Nueva Jersey,
No me gusta Nueva Jersey,
Mi casa en Nueva Jersey fue abrade.

Yo fuí a muchas escuelas diferente,
Para Nueva Jersey, yo tuve menos hambre.
Yo attendí The Peck School, yo jugué fútbol, baísbol, lacrosse, y basketball.
Pero tuve muchas amigos y amigas,
Yo detesté eso escuela.

Mi nombre es Aiert,
Soy de Nueva Jersey,
No me gusta Nueva Jersey,

No me gusta Nueva Jersey,
Mi casa en Nueva Jersey fue abrade.

espanol 3 song

Vengo de!

The project is a song of where we came from and what we're surrounded by everyday. I learned to actually evaulate my surroundings and think about what there. Instead of just living there, I actually see it. I especially like my chorus. It's who I am, and I care about my friends, and they care about me. It's just a natural mutual feeling. I'd change some of my lyrics in the verses if I had a better understanding of spanish to say slang. I'd only use slang because it'd be used in a "friendly" sense.

Here's my lyrics!

Nací en Jersey
Me mudé Filly (mudarse)
Me encantalo aquí
Esta es mi ciudad

Familia en SLA, Filly y Mi barrio
Tengo mis amigos junto a mi lado

Tengo mis amigos junto a mi lado
Estoy ellos, ellos son mi
Soy como ellos, ellos son como yo
Vengo De!

Made in Puerto Rico

Verse 1-
