Dakota Foster's Negative Space

Negative space is the space in a picture that isn't taken up with drawings or figures. Also, negative space could be the background of the picture. For example, if you draw a house in the middle of a paper, but then you color the space around the house. That is classified as negative space because that part is not occupied by anything.
You can find negative space in my cut out drawing of the bird by looking at the black parts. The black parts are the negative space in the drawing. This space is empty because there wasn't a bird there before, but with the positive space around the negative space, you can see the bird and it's wings. Now for my second drawing, even though it isn't complete. You are able to find the negative space vs. the positive space. As the same for this drawing, the black or shaded in parts is classified as negative space. The non-shaded part which is the objects in the pictures are the positive space. The negative space isn't occupied and the positive space because it is the figures in the picture.

It helps for an artist to see the negative space because the artist can focus on outlining the figures in the picture instead of getting ever detail. Once the artist can outline the figures in the picture then, the artist knows the basic shape of the figures in the picture. So, the artist can focus on drawing the positive space of the drawing last. Another reason, it helps for the an artist to see the negative space because it makes for an interesting piece of artwork. If the artist draws the negative space, then the audience can wonder what is in the positive space.
In my opinion, I do think negative space enhances drawings because it make them look more interesting. Also, the artist can focus more on the details and take their time so, the picture is more likable.

Negative Space Concept:
Negative space is the space around the object. For example, there is a colored in circle that is black and out side of this circle the color is white. The negative space of the circle is the white part of the paper. Another example would be a can. The can's outlined shape is black and the outside of it is white. The white part of the paper is the space around it that is negative space.

At first, I was confused because I didn't know the negative space of the owl. Then I noticed the first piece I cut out that was the background to the owl. After, I added pieces from there by adding certain shapes I cut out and made the owl. The negative space for the stools was hard. When drawing it, I had to look at it and come up with reasonable shapes that envisioned the stools in negative space.

Negative space probably helps artists know the other side of what they are drawing. Knowing the positive and negative helps the artist know their drawing intimately and it's easy to understand it and capture any angle.

Using negative space shows the "bare bones" of the drawing and it shows its simplicity. A carving may have many designs in the middle, but it's negative space shows how its not complex at all.

Negative Space

Negative space is when the area or background around an object in a picture is shaded/colored but the object itself is not. The way I found negative space in my cut out is that I knew that the object (the owl) would be positive space so the extra space around the object would be the negative space. And in my negative drawing, the way I found negative space is by outlining the objects first then shading the background behind it. It helps an artist to see in negative space because when you look at a negative space drawing, you can see and focus on the shape/structure of the object. Seeing in negative space does enhance drawings because the picture would pop out at you and would have your eye focus on the shape and not the details.

Negative Space

Negative space the area around an object within a certain frame. The object itself would be the positive space because there is a object that is there. The space where there is nothing is the negative space. It is just a background. Within my cut out, one side of the paper was positive and the other was negative. Within my stool drawing, the object was the positive space and the background was the negative space. Negative space helps an artist to see the actual shape and definition of an object. Negative Space brings out the drawing. It makes an object pop.

Negative Space.

Negative Space is the space around or between an object. For example if you have an apple, you would draw the space around the apple.

In my Stool drawings, I found the negative space by creating the shapes the space was taking up. So for example, if two Stool legs have space between them, that space made a trapezoid. For my cut- out, to find the negative space, I just looked at the parts around the drawing.

It helps an artist to see negative space because they can see the shape and formation of an object to draw it almost to perfection.

In my opinion, negative space does enhance the drawing because it makes the object pop.

Negative Space

Negative space is the background space in an image. It is the space in between the image.

I found the negative space in the cut out picture by thinking the opposite that I normally would. I found the negative space for the drawing by shading in the whole page and then erased the stools and the other parts of the image.

It helps an artist to see negative space because it is good to see all parts of the image not just what is in front of you.

Seeing in negative space does enhance the drawing because when you see the negative space it brings out the normal drawing.

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it.)
-Negative space is a special type of drawing. For example, if you are looking at a black and white drawing, all the white parts will turn black, and all the black parts will be white.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out? 2. in your stool drawing?
-In my cut out, I found the negative space by cutting out the shape using construction paper. Using the cut outs, I pasted it onto another piece of construction paper, that would become my negative space. Making use of the left over cut outs, I pasted it onto the negative space paper. The owl that I was making started to take shape.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space? Some artist find it easier to draw what is not the main focus of the drawing. This in turn will create the drawing that is in focus. This is found to be easier by some artist.

D. Seeing in negative space shows a sort of silhouette of the drawing. Since the main focus of the drawing is a different color then the rest of the whole entire drawing, it makes it more appealing.

Negative Spaces by Robert Jenkins

Negative Spacing is when the picture is made based on the shape that  is created from the parts of paper that is not shaded. You can also say it is created based on the contrast of two colors.

The way that I created Negative space with my cut out is by first cutting my print out of the tree while on of the brown piece of construction paper. Then used the space created from the cut  out of  white paper i glued it on as place in the picture below.

Question's

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)The space around and between the subject of an image. It is also space between objects.
B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
I found negative space by looking at all the shapes in the drawing and how the cutout is made of them. Then I went on to finding out where the space between the objects are.But on the other  had I had to figure out where the shapes would be and if they were negative
C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
Because negative space helps define the space . Plus it help the drawing on the paper look like it has many dimensions.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not
I believe it does because it makes the art pop, and sometimes it adds like a 3-dimensional figure to the certain art. Also because negative space helps things in the drawing show that was never shown or seen before.

Negative Space

Negative space is the background and it is the area the is be hide the object and in the space between. The negative space in the picture is the background and the area between the finger. And with the owl is on the left side the brown and on the right the pink. So that you know where thing are in the front and the back. I think that it dose enhance the drawing because then you can layer and know where things fall.

Negative space drawing, Willson, Orange, Hull, Art

A.  Negative space is space that no object is occupying.  You can clearly see negative space if you put an object against a piece of paper.  Everywhere you see the paper is negative space.
B.  I saw negative space in the cutout because it alternates between surfaces.  The first piece of paper is negative, then positive, then negative, and so on.  In my stool drawing I just drew the parts of the orange paper that I could see.
C.  It helps an artist to see in negative space because it adds an entire new vantage point from which to create a drawing.
D.  Seeing in negative space can enhance a drawing because someone could be awful at regular drawing, and then be awesome at negative space.

The Bank

Yesterday i went to the bank with my mom too get my first credit card. we get to the bank and this woman inside is  cashing a check. the teller then said too her that they could not cash her check for some reason. She flipped out and started talking really really loud about how she couldn't get her check and make a huge ruckus. She then got up and said to the tellers " This is why i can't go to banks because it's always african americans coming up in here and disrespecting me and denying me service" Well i laughed my mom grimaced and the other two tellers just stared at the lady like she was an idiot she then talked for 30 mins and left and i finally got out of there. At least there was entertainment

Negative Space

A. Negative space is the space around and between the object your drawing.

B. I found negative space by drawing the stools and shading the background. The space was already there, I just had to shade it in. For my cut out, I cut out the negative space of the picture, and left the white space to glue on.

C. It helps an artist make their drawing more 3-D. It creates a more bolder looking picture, then if you just drew something from perspective.

D. Yes, it gives the drawing a background. It also helps give the drawing shapes and precision.

negative space jamie murphy

A.  The negative space is the area outside the outline of the drawing. So it's everything that you don't draw or color in
B.  Cut out drawing- i cut out every piece of the stencil then organized the negative pieces  (outer) on one side and the other on the opposite side
Stool drawing-  I drew the outline of the stool then focused on the background of the stool and everything around it.
C. It helps an artist see you can see everything around it in its environment
D. Yes it shows more detail (:

Negative Space.

Negative Space is the part of the picture that you did not draw. It is the extra space left on the paper that is not colored on.
In my drawing I found negative space by placing the parts of the picture that were positive space on the picture.
I was not here for the stool drawing.
This helps an artist see negative space because it's the opposite color and it is the opposite part of the picture.
Seeing things in negative space does help enhance drawings because you can see more in the picture.

Jalisa Smith: Negative Space

Negative space is the space around an object that wouldn't normally be drawn. For example, if you look at a glass you can draw the shape of that glass by coloring in the space around it. In the drawings below, I drew stools using negative space by coloring in the space that I felt would help shape the stools and then I outlined the stools. In my cut-out art I had to cut out the negative and positive space of the bat.
I believe it helps an artist to see in negative space because it makes the drawing more precise and the shapes are bolder because it looks more accurate. While in a regular drawing, you are just looking at in your perspective and drawing the shapes that you believe are there. I believe that seeing drawings in negative space brings out the art more because I can see the shapes better and it actually looks like what the Artist was drawing.

Neg. Space

A. What is negative space?

Negative space is space between an object or around it.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. Your cut out? 2. In your stool drawing?

You kind of had to picture it first and try to find out what was negative and what was positive.
In the drawing I just drew the object first and then shade it in around the shape of the idem.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

To grasp the basic shapes you can use when you draw different stuff.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

I think so because then it would be way easy to draw anything you please because you know the basic shapes and then you can just fill in the details as you go.

Sara Nesbitt: Negative Space.

A. Negative space is all of the space around an object. It's just the empty space.

B. I first drew the stools, and then after I had the object I used a darker shade of my pencil and shaded the rest of the space that was not part of the object, but just there. There was also an orange piece of paper behind the drawing, and everywhere you could see orange was negative space, so you just color that in.
In my cut outs, I just cut every part of the tree out and then found the outline. Everything else I put on the other side.

C. It helps when artists can see negative space because it gives the picture a 3D atmosphere, and helps them see all parts of the picture, instead of just the outline. You can't draw an accurate picture with just the outline.

D. Yes, seeing negative spaces can enhance the drawing because the picture is flat unless you see the entire thing. I believe that the picture won't be complete unless you see every aspect.
