Theme: Struggle & Acceptance
The Scarlet Letter novel and the Juno movie are both about women whom will eventually give birth under unexpected and difficult circumstances. In the beginning of The Scarlet Letter, Hester (the protagonist of the novel) was beautiful a beautiful married woman. However, she decided to commit adultery and conceived her daughter, Pearl. Pearl’s father was the town’s reverend, Mr. Dimmesdale. Yet no one knew whom Pearl’s father was until she was seven years of age. However, immediately after Dimmesdale revealed his paternity, he died. Hester and Pearl were always alone, but Dimmesdale’s death made the family feel lonelier. In the movie Juno, the protagonist named Juno, finds out that she’s pregnant while she’s still in high school. Even though her character in the movie is portrayed as an irresponsible teenager, she still seems capable of doing what’s best for her and her unborn child. Without anyone’s consent, she decided to give her baby up for adoption. She thought of her future and her baby’s as well which is a responsible thing to do. Both Hester and Juno give birth and deal with struggle with their pregnancies.
Therefore, I made a collage as a creative piece to show how I interpret both of the movies and how I find them very similar to each other. The collage consists of different pictures from different magazines to explain how one things leads to the next. It demonstrates how a beautiful female can struggle with a period in their lifetime but are courageous enough to accept themselves and be accepted by others at the end. So, the collage’s order of events sequence goes from left to right as well, showing how a women’s love brings her prejudice, humiliation and how they are not accepted by society for a while due to sinning.
At first, a timeline was thought of to describe the series of events. Afterwards, arts and crafts looked more interesting and so the main idea still took place. However, it was modified so that you can see the importance for why things happened. Few words are added to the collage so that the pictures may speak for themselves. But, a collage is not as easy to put together as one may think; especially when trying to describe different events with different colors and cut up facial expressions to describe feelings. That’s the exciting part of it, though. Seeing the difference throughout the creative piece.
If there were more magazines disposable, the collage would have been more vivid. There would be some more intense colors to represent the most intense scene, which is when two people are in the process of conceiving.
Throughout this quarter, I did a lot of paper work art. It began simple, but I went along with the "simplicity is beauty" quote. A lot of my drawings are random and others could've been designed differently by cutting certain parts of the drawings. It would've added more design to the piece of art. Two drawings were drawn as a sketch. My favorite sketch would be the mickey mouse and minnie mouse one. color could be added to a certain piece of that drawing to abstract the drawing.

Which of these areas did you excel in? Which were not so well represented? Why do you think some elements of design were easier or harder to include in the end product?
I think I excelled in all the areas except varied. I could have added moer information about the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe compare and contrast to other dead zones. I think that some elements were a bit harder to include in the end of the product to have lessen information due to the spacing.
Dinosaurs, Humans, What’s Next?
Scientists have proven that dinosaurs have existed in Earth’s last life and that humans are the living species living in the present, but people are wondering what’s next. Many of the human species believe that a combination of humans and robots will take over the next world. Advanced technologies discovered by human brains have led to many amazing ideas like laptops, iPods, electricity, etc. However, Robert Palituccini made the most amazing idea in 2087. He believes that humans and robots should not only work together, but work as a whole, literally. The combination of robots and humans would be a dynamic and revolutionary change for the afterworld.
Feisels. Palituccini believes that this is a great idea. However no other scientist wants to help him with this project. “BOOM. BOOM” those were the noises people heard once the Earth began to collapse. “Help, help. My son is near the great whole” yelled a lady for her child. “The world is ending, the world is ending” yelled another citizen. “Yes, yes. The moment I’ve been waiting for!” yelled Palituccini. “Yes, finally. I will be able to make my plan work!” he would still yell. Palituccini had built a robot two years ago and had stolen a five-year-old child a year ago for his idea to come true. Rumors of the world ending were everywhere, but people never paid attention to these rumors. “I’m going to…” Palituccini didn’t have time to stay on this Earth. He grabbed water, food, first-aid kits, oil, his scientist tools, the two-year-old robot and the 6-year-old child with him and began to launch his rocket. The sounds of explosion everywhere began to worry him. “Am I going to make it out of this plant on time?” he would ask to himself. “BOOM, BOOM, BOOOOOM” was the only noise heard left on this planet. Palituccini closed his eyes in hope that he would be out on time.
Soon after the loud noises, Palituccini opened his eyes to the beautiful sight of outer space. He used the map he map he created to get to the plant he wanted to go. 8,760 hours passed by on this rocket and there was the image of the planet he wanted to land on. The only that had oxygen other than Earth. Planet Versony was a perfect place to create the first Feisel. There, he put the now three-year-old robot and the seven-year child into a fusion that would make them join together as a whole. This process took thirty-six hours and Palituccini waited patiently for his ideal dream to finally occur.
Palituccini opened the fusion box door and there it was, his most creative creation of all times. The feisels had beautiful shiny-fleshed skin and operated on oil. Its mind was greater than any other scientist in the old planet earth. It was even greater than Palituccini’s. He loved this creation so much that he wanted to make more of it. As a matter of fact, he wants a whole new world filled with Feisels! In order to create more Feisels, Palituccini had to cut off a piece of a Feisels and put it in the fusion box. Thirty-six hours alter he had another Feisel. Every three days his inventions would expand more and more until there were one thousand Feisel all under Palituccini’s control.
Once the planet Earth began to show it’s sign of life again, Palituccini went back on his rocket. He only went back with ten of his Feisels though because 990 more couldn’t fit in the rocket. Arriving to Earth, there was more oil and less water, which was a good thing. Feisels run on oil and Palituccini was the only full human left. Palituccini left his first Feisel creation in charge on the New Earth planet while he went to get the other Feisels. Once the 990 Feisels arrived on Earth as well, they built a whole new Earth. Flying cars, almost-invisible technology and electricity charging Feisels was the New Earth. Almost everyday, Feisels would build something new in their countries. Palituccini began to age now and was at no worry. His first Feisel creation was like a son to him and he left the Earth on his hands while leaving peacefully. The New Earth is made of Feisels and the most advanced technology in history. Once this Earth is over with though, what will come after is the common question. Feisels will never know.

Where Can A Conversation Lead You?
Conversations can either be good or bad, they can go one way one minute and drastically change to another. They all start with greetings and depending on how the conversation goes, it might not end up with a good “goodbye”. The main language in America is English. Some people haven’t quite mastered it as well as others. However, the way someone presents himself or herself, says something about them. According to the author James Balwin, “It reveals the private identity, and connects one with, or divorces one from, the larger public, or communal identity”, meaning that the way someone talks might identify where they come from.
Once, I met a woman who had trouble speaking to a bus driver. She was Chinese and was repeatedly asking the bus driver for a transfer. “Uh need uh TrAAnsfer.” she said with a heavy accent. I had a feeling that the bus driver knew what she was asking but he was trying to make her say it correctly.
“Uh need uh TrAAnsfer.”, the woman said.
“ What do you need ma’am?” , the bus driver said.
“TrANNfeer.” she said, pronouncing it differently to see if she got it correctly this time.
“Trans-fur, are you asking me for a transfer?” the bus driver said.
“Yeah, yah.. AI NEED A TRANS-FURR.”, the woman said.
“ It’ll cost you a dollar.”, the bus driver said.
The woman paid for the transfer and sat down. This conversation didn’t go well and took longer than it should have.
Also, the way a conversation goes depends on someone’s mood or where the conversation is being held. For example, if the conversation is happening in person, then it might give out more information by facial expressions compared to what an online chat would give you to know how a person is feeling. A conversation in person can be more descriptive and analyzed better by what the people are saying, which gives you more clues as well.
So, always keep in mind what to say and how to say it. Usually, some conversations don’t go as well as others, but they still go somewhere. And if you don’t feel like talking, then don’t. If you do, enjoy yourself.
