McCarthy Unabridged: The Road, Page 183

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in Being Human - Giknis - C on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 5:19 pm
For this project I had to insert a scene into the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy, below is that scene and my rational for the creative decisions behind it.

Scene

The man went back to sleep but the boy stayed awake, his thoughts plagued by the dream.

Papa was gone. He didnt die, he was just gone. For a while the boy looked for him. Maybe he got lost tripped and fell somewhere and was waiting for the boy to come help. The boy searched for days but the man was nowhere to be found, The boy wanted to follow the man. He stopped looking for food, he didnt follow the road. But he knew the man wouldnt like that so he continued on the road.

Slowly the boy gave up living by the man’s overly cautious ways. Being on his own in the world, never suited him.  He wished for time with the man, time with anyone.

Encountering people on the road had a new protocol. Instead of hiding, waiting for them to while going past. He waits to see if they are good, if they carry the fire. He tells them to come with him.  The boy became a man, his life became full, and he forgot the man. When the realization dawned on the man he broke down, crying for a man forgotten.

Then the boy woke up

Rational

I chose to have my story excerpt show what happened in the boy's dream because I wanted to explore the boy’s character more. The book was centered on the man. It narrates his thoughts, and the reader sees the world though his eyes, even though the book  seems to have an omniscient narration. Since we only really get the man’s perception of the world we get his opinion of the boy. In his eyes the boy has a divinatory air.

We do not get a look at the thoughts behind his character, he is supporting character to the man’s story. Important enough to influence the main character, but not enough so that he gets his own arc. The man wakes up to find the boy crying because the man wasn’t there, in my scene I made cause the man’s absence be because of his death. This way I was able to create the boy’s personality without the man shadow.

The boy contemplates suicide because it was made very clear, by the boy’s want to keep the man by his side at all times and him questioning the man about always being there for him, that the boy did not want the man to leave him for anything. It would of made no sense for the boy to shake off the man’s death like it did not affect him. I didn’t allow the boy to stay in his rut because, although sometimes defiant, he valued the man’s opinion greatly, and the man would of wanted him to continue on the road without him. He encounters more people, and continues his journey with them not only because of his abandonment issue with the man, but also because of his prophetic demeanor. When they encountered the lighting man he remarked about how he thought the boy was angle like. So it would make sense that other people would also find his abnormality a sign from the heavens, and gravitate to him.

In the book he man says that bad dreams are good, but because the boy is so young it seemed more likely that he would have a happy dream. I surrounded the good witch bad because although the boy can escape the horrors of his world as he sleeps, hardship is all he knows. So I ending his dream with a happily ever after did not fit. I also wanted to make it parallel to the book, by having the boy cry about the man’s absence.

Herstory Poem

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in Gender Studies - Menasion - d1 on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 8:16 pm

She is from homes, from tiny one room houses in the middle of nowhere, row-homes in the bustling city, condominiums in the insignificant but not so insignificant towns.

She is from the small, quiet, backwater town.

She is from Nurses, and the hours of hard work at school then more work at home

She is from half  birthdays and one sided dimpled faces, from Gretchen and Bambi and Trevor.

She is from the Dedicated and Fun-loving.

From girls can do anything and girls should wear appropriate clothing.

She is from christianity. Going to church every Sunday, rain or shine. Holding on to her beliefs like a lifeline.

She is from Mississippi and back breaking work, grits and bacon.

She is from New Jersey, Florida, Philadelphia. Places she followed those she loved so she could catch them if the fell.

U.S. Involvement in the Korean War

After the Koreas were freed from Japans rule both parts(north and south) created separate governments and wanted the other join theirs. North Korea joined the Soviet Union and became a communist nation, so when they invaded South Korea the U.S got involved to stop the spread of communism.

The First Picture of the Moon or Elaborate Hoodwink?

A few weeks ago the laboratory of Louis Daguerre burned to the ground. No one was injured, but the fire did take all of his written records, early experimental work, and the mysterious first photo of the moon. Earlier of this year there was talk about the French painter/inventor using his acclaimed form of photography called “daguerreotypes”. The famous daguerreotypes have caused quite the excitement since they now allow photos to be taken in less than an hour.

Even though Daguerre has made quite a name for himself in not only France and England, but here in America his moon picture authenticity is being questioned. Because the evidence of this great photographic achievement has literally gone up in smoke, the spot in history for the first person to take a picture of the moon is still up for grabs. I wonder if Daguerre will be able to gather his wits in enough time to take home the gold. Or will someone steal it out from underneath his nose?

Earliest known surviving photograph of the Moon, a daguerreotype taken in 1851 by John Adams Whipple

Do I Have a Fairy Tale Prince?

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in English 2 - Pahomov - A on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 12:13 pm

I am a princess. I may not look or live like it yet, but I am.  When I am older, I will live in a beautiful castle/house. I will have so many beautiful dresses I won't know what to do with them. I will go to balls, and when I walk in, fashionably late, I will be the belle of the ball. And of this, all of what I will soon have is because of one person. Who is that person you ask? If you are thinking me, you would be wrong. I am nothing but a simple girl, I can't get all of these things for myself. I need a man. A strong beautiful man, preferably a prince, but he could also just be super rich. We will meet at a ball or some charity function, I didn’t want to go to, my friends dragged me to. We see each other, and I don’t think much of you and you didn't think much of me, except that I was H-O-T. I mean come on, he is a man, there is no way I could be in love with a woman. That doesn't happen in fairy tales. Anyway long story short we get married after realizing we are perfect for each other, we get married, and he takes me away to live in his castle/house. And the happy little princess lived happily ever after, the end. That is the plot to almost every fairy tale ever written. What every girl wants; including me. Its what I grew up wanting.

I used to think I was better than all of those other girls, because while they were engrossed with Cinderella and Snow White, I happened to look at Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” as a role model.  She was, is, the better princess after all. (Well at least in the Disney version) She is her own person, she read books, she didn't take crap from anyone. Everyone either loved her or wanted to be her. She didn't wait for her prince to come save her either. She only found her prince when she went to save him. How is that for girl power?

We are raised from birth to believe that there is that special someone out there for us. That our other half is the one that is supposed to make us whole, and that we will never be whole with that half  missing. But when I look at my self in the morning I am whole. There is no side of me missing, inside or out. But inside I feel as if I am missing that thing that everyone else has. It's like a piece of me is not lost, but was never there, like I wasn't born with it; like this is some sick joke on God’s part. They made an Adam to go with every Eve and vice versa. Why did they do this to us? Make us a match for someone? It makes no sense. Love is everywhere. It's in songs, paintings, TV, movies, books, music, even right outside your window. We are surrounded by it, and yet no one knows how to define it? How is that right? Is it even real? And if so, who says so? Are you sure that thing you feel when you're with your "other half" isn't just a tiny heart attack that makes you feel like there are butterflies in your chest? What if there is something really wrong with you and you don't know it, because everyone told you it was love?

I hate those books. You know the kind where the guy and girl are complete opposites, and yet they still fall in love in a matter of days? And then there is some big problem, but by the end of the book everything is fine and they ride off into the sunset with each other. I mean how unrealistic is that? Maybe that is how they did it in the olden days, but that is not how it happens now a days. There is only one couple I know that has lasted through the years, and thats the Whites. They are the perfect couple. He always pays attention to her, and she always takes what he says into consideration. But everyone knows that one old couple who has lasted throughout the years, right? Other t Mr. and Mrs.White, I know no one else who has gotten through the better or worse that they promised to help each other get through on their wedding day.

But how do I know, I know what I want. I mean, I know what I want, but how do I know why I want it. I have grown up in a society where women are told that they shouldn’t exist without a man. That their purpose in life is to serve men. Those who try to exist without a man are suppressed and womanized, until they are forced to go crying into the dad’s arms . That there here is no way we can not exist without a man. So girls are left wondering if the fairy tale prince is simply a result of a brainwashing society or because it is what they truly want. It's confusing. You can never know. Do you even need love? Is it even a real thing? And I'm not talking about a mother’s love or family love, because I know for a fact that that is a real thing. I’m talking no platonic love.

Men seem to be able to exist without love. They applaud each each other for not settling down. For not having the responsibility of a wife or kids.  They are able to sleep around with women, and then become heroes. Yeah, sure they might get a slap in the face now and then, but that only adds to their hero status. They are successful business men, that have no responsibilities to weigh them down. Women are expected to settle down. To have kids, to make a home. If they don't they are not thought of as real women. If they did what men did, they would be called sults and tormented untill they either quit trying to go against society's laws, or start bending to society's will.

In "Beauty and the Beast" that is all Belle did. After their happily ever after Belle just went to the kitchen to cook, or looked after the castle. While her husband who hadn't ruled for over 50 years resumes his rule over the kingdom. A kingdom that doesn't question how wrong he was for abandoning them for his own problems, they just accept him back with welcoming arms because he is a man. He had the power, and Belle was just proud to be the wife of a king,  a person in power, a man.

The Breakup

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in English 2 - Pahomov - A on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 9:31 pm
-A clock somewhere close chimes five o’clock, a man looks up from the work he is doing in his home office-

(He starts to talk out loud) Crap! It’s five already, she’s going to be home soon.

-starts to pace at a brisk speed-

It’s ok don’t freak. You can do this. You can do this. You can do this.

-throws hands up-

Who am I kidding? I can’t do this. I don’t even know what to say. I could just walk up to her, say ‘We’re over’, then walk away. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Yeah, thats good. I’ll say that, then I’ll be done in enough time to watch “Glee”.

-hits his forehead with his palm lightly-

Glee! That what I’ve should've done last night, instead of watching cat videos on youtube, I should’ve watched reruns of “Glee”. Those confused hormonal teens are always going through these type of things. Maybe I should study tonight, and just break up with her tomorrow.

-starts to shake his head-

No, I can’t do it tomorrow, I promised Sam I would get this done. Sam has been the other person for weeks now, and it’s all my fault.

-stops pacing-

(To an invisible person)I knew Sam was the one from when I first laid eye on the shirt Sam was wearing, when we first met, “ I HAVE BOOBS...made you look, and shame on you for looking at my chest.” I remember I died laughing.  And when I asked where it came from, I  got an earful on how it was impolite to look at someone’s chest. Even though most would say there was nothing there to stare at, I couldn’t take your eyes off it. Thats when I knew Sam was the one for me, from that first moment. If I can’t do this for me, then I have to do it for Sam.

-restarts pacing, slower than before-

Why am I making this hard for myself, thinking of what to say. I’ll just tell her the truth. That I found the love of my life, and it happens to not be her. She’ll understand, right? I mean, I only started saying I loved her, because she said it first, and I didn’t want her to feel bad. I didn’t really mean it. What am I thinking!? I can’t say that she’ll hate me forever, and it would break her heart.

Maybe if I told her how it never would've worked between us. How I could never love her in the way she deserves. Then, just maybe she won’t hate me. I’m only trying to save her the heartbreak, that would have come. If not now, then later. But what if she doesn't understand?

What if she doesn't that this is who I am. That I wasn’t meant to fit in the perfect life she planned. What is it she said again?(in a girl voice) ‘After college we could move in together’. That we didn’t have to get married until I was ready. That I had until she was twenty-eight, because she isn’t going to have kids in her thirties, and we have to have at least two. Two. Two messy, noisy, crying things. That always want and need. Why would anyone in their right mind have them willingly? ‘But don’t you want the chance to be a(baby voice) DADEEEE?’ No.

-runs hands through hair-

I guess it’s not all her fault she thinks we are ‘Soulmates’. If I hadn’t stayed with her this long, I would have gotten this break up over a long time ago, two years ago to be exact. But no I had to say with her because Dad thinks she’ll make a( in a deep man voice) ‘suitable wife’ and a ‘decent mother’ for our kids. And Mom was happy to see me with a girl.(older lady voice) ‘You didn’t date all through high school and your first few years of college, I was starting to get worried. I didn’t know what to think. You were a nice boy, got good grades, and you weren’t that hard on the eyes. The ladies at the club were starting to talk about you being one of ‘those’ boys. You know the kind that are afraid of marriage.  I’m so glad to know your not. You need to marry ’

If only she knew what kind of boy I am. The kind that strings on two great people good people, one for years. The kind who is going to break, the first person to love them’s, heart. If mom knew that and the rest of the stuff I am, then she wouldn’t even recognize me as her own flesh and blood, because she raised ‘A good, sweet, All-American boy’.

I really have to do this don’t I?

-heavy sigh-

I wish I could just fast forward this part of my life. Past all the crying and explaining. Past the ugly fight Sam and I are going to have, when I tell the truth about my other woman. Past the strained weeks it’s going to take Sam to get over the fact that I betrayed the faith, wrongly place.

-Stops pacing and smiles to himself-

Fast forward to Sam and I on the beach. It won't be any ordinary beach.  It’s not any ordinary day. It’s the first day of our honeymoon, the day after our wedding.  Just Sam and I on one of those private beaches. The kind where the sunlight, of the sunset, glitters on every grain of sand, the tropical birds are singing the song of love from the shelter of the trees, and the water, that were frolking in, is so clear that you can see all the even the smallest sea creature. We are splashing around, I get Sam’s shirt wet, it’s a white one, I can see all that’s underneath. Sam shames me for looking at the chest I admire so deeply, then getting even by wrestling me down into the water. Me getting the upper hand. Sam getting that look, our lips come together, the tast of salted water  shared between us. The time and place forgotten. First Sam’s shirt getting lost in the waves, my hands on that glorious chest. Then my shirt disappearing. Sam’s hands trailing all over my body, leaving fire in their wake. Then off comes…

-Car lights flash the window, and he goes to check-

Crap! That’s her car. I haven’t even decided what I’m going to tell her. I guess I’ll just have to tell her the truth. Well here goes nothing.

-A woman walks past the open door-

“Hey babe, can you come in here for a sec, I have to talk to you”

-she walks into the office, in tears-

“Why are you crying. What’s wrong? Come here, tell me what happened...Oh no, not your grandma, I know how much you loved her.”

-he pulls the woman into his arms-

“It’s ok she’s in a better place now. She wouldn’t want you to cry”

“Of course, I’m right. I always am. you go take a hot bath, I’ll cook dinner tonight.”

“I know, I know, I’m the best. Now go take that bath.”

-he pushes the woman out the door softly, she turn around when she reaches the threshold-

“What did I want to talk about? Umm, nothing important, we can talk later. You go take that bath”

“ Yeah...love you too.”

-The woman leaves-

(to himself)I guess I just have to wait until tomorrow to tell her about Sam. What’s another day pretending to be straight, when I’ve been doing it my whole life?

"Are you sure that's a word?"

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in English 2 - Pahomov - A on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:07 pm

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious! If you say it loud enough, you'll always sound precocious,”. We all know the words to this famous song, or we tell people we do, then mummer over every thing that's not the chorus. This fanticisacal song has been herd by children and adults alike, all over the country for almost three generations. In all of that time, sixty-four years to be exact, no one is able to say what exactly “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” mean.  To one person it may mean wonderment, to another it may mean just good. Words have a way of changing their meaning when switching from person to person. For every word that is used by one person, it is used by another. However no two people share the same experience or feelings. Therefore that word contains a whole new meaning for the second person than it did for the first.

If you saw a girl  who was being loud and obnoxious and constantly causing drama what would you call her? Drama Queen? Or maybe needy? If you were from the Philadelphia area you would call this girl “Ratchet”. “I know what you are thinking. “Ratchet, isn’t that  some type of  wrench? Can that be an adjective to describe a person?” The answer to that question would be, yes. Philadelphians has adopted the word ratched to mean something totally different than it’s dictionary definition.

In  addition to giving new meaning to already existing words, we also have many different names for the same things. For example, the candy like tic tac looking things you put on cupcakes and ice cream. What are they called? Around the world they are known by many different names such as, sprinkles, jimmies, Nonpareils, and  Hundreds and thousands. One topping many names. Even places in the same county, use different names for the topping. So which one is the correct term? All of them. As long as a word can be identified as something for more than one person, it is infact a word. Even if it is not in the Merriam-Webster's dictionary.

We are taught from a young age that language is something set in stone. That if you can not find it in a dictionary, then it's not a word. Mother’s are always telling their children how to say things the right way. While teachers discourage the misspelling of words. We even do it to our friends, when the accidently say “Me and Sally went to the mall.” instead of “Sally and I went to the mall.” This is an example of something we have been taught to be right. But who is to say that something is right or wrong?

What does French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Korean, and Hebrew have in common, besides the fact that they are languages. Don’t know? Well let me enlighten you. They were all made up. Yup that’s right. That language everyone is so set on was made up by a bunch of guys sitting around making up words, like some kids sharing a secret language. So if they made it up, and made up languages are not considered a real language, then how do we know if what we consider English or Spanish are actual languages. We could have over a million languages if we took in account all of the languages we make up when we are young. But we do not. If we are allowed to make anything into a "real" language, then we lose the a common thing connecting millions of people.

When lose this commonality we start to break off into smaller groups with our own leaderships. As the number of independent groups grow, then the need of a government to unite the whole would become unnecessary. When the government becomes necessary , then  those in power will realize that they are in trouble. Systems that have been in place to keep those in order are now being rejected. So they are being rejected.

We make up words and invent new words for things because that is who we are. We are all unique, shouldn’t our words reflect our person. Yet when we share our words or pronunciation with the world they are rejected, because they are not considered real. We are restricted by the social norms instilled in our communities years ago.

Becoming Chloe(Independent Reading Project)

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm

True colors

This song is about finding yourself, and although in the book Jordan and Chloe are searching for the good in the world, they also find themselves. They help each other find themselves.

Hold On

Jordan and Chloe had hard lives before they met each other. Jordan was put down every by his family for being who he was. And all Chloe has seen in her life is evil. But they made through those tough times. And the hard times, helped them enjoy the good. This song is all about holding out through the bad times, so you know witch moments are the good ones.

How to love

Chloe experiences heartache all through out here life. She never knew what it felt like to be loved by someone, who didn't just want her for her body. But Jordan shows chloe that there it is possible for her to be loved.

I Was Here

As chloe and Jordan travel across the country, they leave a pice of them selves everywhere they go. Everyone they met they either leave or gain a new out look on the world.

Vienna

Chloe forgot who she was. She lost the happiness that made her who she was. So it was up to Jordan to help bring her back from her depression, by showing her the good and beauty in the world.

Carry On

Even though Jordan and Chloe face many difficulties on their trip across country they face many difficulties, they never give up on trying to see the beauty in the world.

Reasons for song choice:
Ordinary Day

I included this song in my playlist because it was made for chloe. She spent her whole life in the clouds. Seeing only the things she wants to see. And she helps Jordan she the world the way she sees it, as he helps her see the world for the best place it can be.

Thousand Miles

I added this song because Jordan and Chloe took a break form the world. And that time didn't exist where they were.

You Got A Friend in Me

I feel this song represents Jordan and Chloe's friendship. They are always there for each other no matter what. From the moment they met, they have always had each other's backs, no matter witch situation they were in.

Becoming ChloeBecoming Chloe by Catherine Ryan Hyde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Becoming Chloe" is a Young Adult novel ,by Catherine Ryan Hyde, about Jordan (Jordy) and Chloe and their journey as they search for the beauty in the world. As the story begins Jordan is alone in the world. Cast out by his family for being Gay, he is living in the basement of a deserted building in New York, NY. One night he hears noises coming from outside the one window, that looks out in to a usually abandoned alley. But on this night he looks out his tiny window, to see a group of me surrounding a girl with torn off Clothes. He saves her, and he becomes her Guardian Angle. They soon save enough money to move to a new home. A better home. But their stay there is cut short, when Otis, the home's owner, and Bruno, his dog dies. The death of Otis and Bruno sends Chloe in to a spiraling Depression and she beginnings to doubt the good in the world. To Cheer her up and make her see the good in the world, he takes on a trip across country.
In my opinion this is a great book. Catherine Ryan Hyde touched subject other young adult authors would never in their dreams think about writing about. The one thing I disliked about the book was the ending. It just dropped off. Yes, Jordan and Chloe ache vied everything they hoped to achieve, and the answered the question sounding their whole trip, 'Was the world good or bad?'. But we didn't get any after thought. Where did they finally settle down? Will Jordan ever find that special some one? Will chloe? These were the questions I asked my self while turing theses last pages of the book. Even though the book left me with questions, I would not hesitate recommending this book. It was a great read, with a lot of depth.

Drawing Review

One Thing I leaded how to do throughout this project is how to a full room from one point perspective.Learning how to draw this made my the consumers of my feel like they are looking where I looked when I drew my pictures. If I had to do this assignment again I would Make my stools better, and add floor tiles. My advice to someone who has never drawn in one point perspective before would be to always connect your lines to your vanishing pointThe resource that helped me the most would be the power point Mrs.Hall made of how to draw a celling with one point perspective.

Macbeth Benchmark (Creative/Reflection Portion)

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks in English 1 - Dunn on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11:45 am

Benchmark Reflection Questions
  1. This project is about how Lady Macbeth never felt that Macbeth was enough. How she always wanted more from him, and when he delivered, it was never enough.
  2. I didn't really know what I was going to do for the creative part of my project. So I asked around to see what others were doing for their projects. When I heard that someone was doing a poem I felt like that was something I could do, that would go well with my thesis.
  3. At fist it was hard because I didn't really know how to put my quotes in the poem and make it flow right, but then I decide not to care about the flow of the poem, and just write it.
  4. I would say I proud of the whole project, because I finished both parts on time and to the best of my ability.
  5. If I had more time to work on m creative pice I would try to find better pictures to go with my poem, and maybe record my voice.
  6. From my colleges' presentations/projects I leaded that even though somethings are the same they can be represented in many different ways.
  7. What I learned about my self during the course of this project is that I am not good at procrastination.

All The Things I've Done (Independent Reading)

Posted by Trinity Middlebrooks on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9:14 pm
Reasons for Song Choice:

(Daughters-John Mayer) Anya always relates everything back to her dad. He has had a big impact on her life. He impacted her so much it has came to the point of she can't go five seconds without thinking of one of his sayings or something that he used to do. She still follows the instructions he gave her before he died. I think this is a good song to represent this because its about the impact fathers have on their daughters.

(Both of us-B.o.B ft. Taylor Swift) Every thing seems to be against Anya. All she wants to do is take care of he brother and sister, but her mob connection keeps getting in the way of it. This song shows that no matter how manny times she is pushed down, she will trying to protect her brother and sister no matter the cost

(Stand up-Jessie J) I feel this song represents Anya's relationship with Win. How with him she just threw caution to the wind, and went with it. She is so used to controlling everything in her life, but Win took her by surprise. She couldn't control it so just decide to justlet it happen and see where things end up. It also shows how Anya did not allow her soundings effect her judgment. She did her best to not allow her family background to control her sister's, her brother's, or her life.

(Blow Me(One last Kiss)- P!nk) This is the song represents Anya and Win's break-up. In the end they both still loved each other, but their relationship got to much to handle. Win was always being put n danger because of who Anya was. And Anya was couldn't let her relationship with win take away from her responsibly to her brother and sister.

(Girl on Fire-Alicia keys ft. Nicki Minaj) The main character is a girl. She has all the weight of the world on her shoulders, and yet she still keeps going. This represents her strength and will to keep going, no matter what is throne at her.

(Empire State of Mind-Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys) I felt that this song was important to add because the book was set in NewYork. Also because the song specks of over coming the things that put you down. Anya did just that, she tried to make the best of her situation.

(If I Die Young-The Band Perry) I added this song to the playlist because it reprints all the deaths that have happened throughout the course of Anya's life.

(Runaway love- Ludacris ft. Mary J. Blige) (Show goes on-Lupe Fiasco)

Represents how bad Anya world is, not just her world but the world Gabrielle Zevin created around Anya. Its filled with violence and corruption, and yet there are still themes few people who say good and stand up for those who can't do it for them selves.

(Beautiful People-Cher llyod ft. Carolina Liar) This song represents the betrayal in the book. I thought it was important to add a song about betrayal because that is what the whole plot line revolves around, I mean how can you have a good mafia book with out a little betrayal?

(Changes-David Bowie) I added this song because I felt that this book also represented change . The change in Anya's life, change in the political world, just change in general no matter if it was for bad or good.

(Not like the movies- Katty Perry) I added this song because I felt that Anya and Win's relationship was something you only here about in movies and books so I thought it was important to point out that detail about the book.

(Chocolate-Snow Patrol) Because Anya family is the head of the U.S chocolate shipping and the book is centered around her family and it's business I felt it was important to add a chocolate song to my playlist

(Cleanin' out my closet-Eminem) I felt this song best represented the title of the of the book("All the Things I've Done), because it has to do with looking at your problems and dealing with them.

(Feel Again-One Republic) This song best represents how Win showed Anya that the world still had some good in it.

(Jesus Walks-Kanye West) This song represents Anya's religion. Even though she loose, she always finds her way back, even in some of the darkest times.

My Review of the book- http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/455818741

All These Things I've Done (Birthright, #1)All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished reading one of the best books I have had the liberty of reading. "All The Things I've Done" (book #1 of the birthright series) is an unique creation from the amazing mind of Gabrielle Zevin.
The year is 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal and the great city of New York is now poverty ridden. Since the death of her father, 16-year-old Anya Balaniche has been taking care of her bother and sister. It is Anya's job to make sure bother and sister are safe, happy, and above all stay out of the family's chocolate business, so they would be spared the same fate as their parents. But lately this task has proved to difficult thanks to some unwanted publicity focused on her attraction to win, the new Ass. DA's son. Thanks to a poisoned chocolate shipment Anya is thrusted into the world of organized crime and dirty politics, when she is wrongly accused of trying to kill her ex with the tainted candy. To clear her name she must uncover who is behind the tainted shipment, while trying to protect her family, keep Win alive, and maintain her grades.
I feel that the book was the perfect balance between action and romance. I loved every second of it. I was able to look at Anya's life and see aspects of my own. Like how I have to care for my family at a young age, even though my parent are alive and well. Many kids are given the responsibility of taking care of younger siblings so the parent can provide for the family, and some time it's nice to see that they are not alone. If I had to recommend it to anyone who likes dystopia, romance , or even a people who enjoy a good growing up story. All in all, I believe this is a good read and anyone would benefit from picking it up.
