Net Neutrality Blog

Posted by Saamir Baker in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y2 on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 9:26 pm

As I reflect on net neutrality I feel like we should retain our internet given right to get all of our bits at the same pace. But, that is just my opinion in a simple form. Over the past couple of years our Net Neutrality has been tampered with. Yet 8 out of 10 people don't know this nor do they actually know about Net Neutrality. Crazy right? So this is my opinionated article on Net Neutrality.
From personal experience I know that Comcast has been slowing down my internet which is against Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is to protect us from having to pay to get faster internet. I say to this company that it is a disgrace to even do this to consumers, and worse of all they, along with other service providers, slow down Netflix. They slow down Netflix because they are loosing money because they usually also provide cable and people have stopped buying cable. All in all it makes me just disapointed that Net Neutrality rules are still in place until proven otherwise by the FCC, and they are already selling premium internet boxes to get ¨faster internet¨"which is what we had before. Its plain old disgusting to even do this and this should be taken off the market because it is violating multiple rules.
But as my personal blog post comes to an end I ask that you keep yourselves updates on all the happenings of Net Neutrality because, this will affect generations to come. Try to sign petitions that you come across that best help your stance. Though I would say you vote against big corporations slowing down our internet. Since that means laggy Call of Duty, or slow Netflix. Which is what I know the average American citizen does not want.

Blog Slide pt. 2 - Tatiana Ream

I made my slide have the same concept but changed a couple things up. On my first slide post I got comments that I had to much empty space, so what I did for the new slide is changed the font of the lettering and made it bigger to show that it's the most important. Then, I made the pictures bigger and fade away just a little bit because I feel like it's should blend in just a little bit to show what the quote is talking about. The last thing I did was change my background color because it matched the background colors in the picture and seemed it went pretty well.

I changed my whole color scheme so it would match with the theme of red and blue since the pictures go well with the colors. I didn't capitalize my title or the words I wrote because I wanted to keep it simple and straight to the point. I made my name bigger than the rest of the words so it'll be the first thing people see when they view my slide and they'll know who it's about. I didn't take away the spacing from my name because it looks better when the words aren't crowded, and I also deleted some of the words that I wrote so it would look less crowded as well. I still bled the images off the slide since I learned that tip from the websites and it looks more put together. I also used two new pictures so they would match with the theme, and the pizza sign is a .png because the white background would throw off the red and blue colors.

¨CANNOT ACCESS PAGE!¨ Has that ever popped up on your screen? Do you wonder why? That, my friend, is because you don't have net neutrality. Net neutrality is when the FCC's rules of the internet have kicked in and allow you to access any website you would like.

Net neutrality is important because if you don't have it, your internet service provider can control what content you look at on the internet. This includes blocking sites that don't pay them extra to run fast or looking up competing service providers. This can also block certain elements on a site. On Facebook, Verizon can block out opposing ISP's pages. So net neutrality benefits you and opposes ISP's.

I think net neutrality is very important. It's unfair to let some people look at some sites and others looking at other sites. It isn't equal. That is what net neutrality is all about.

MY TECH SLIDE LMM

Posted by Luis-Manuel Morales in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y2 on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:03 am

This is my slide for tech! I aimed to catch the viewer by using three name colors, red, white and blue. In the fanatic word, I spelled it PHanatic, Then I added different colors, those of the Philly Phanatic. These colors appeal to the viewers at a glance, but then also make them observe the details in the slide. The words represent my love for cars. But the colors show my Puerto Rican and American pride, and the phanatic word shows my Philadelphia pride. I then Downloaded my slide as a PDF, and inserted the HTML Embed code to this post. I also gained inspiration from this website.

Tech Slide 2.0

TECH SLIDE (3)
It's time for improvement! As you will notice I have stretched the Lamborghini to take up more of the slide. I aim for this car to attract eyes, as they do in real life. I also changed the background color to grey to allow the car and letters to stand out more. I also noticed that the misspelled fanatic and colorful letters took away from my main point I am attempting to communicate, so I just stuck with silver/white.

Teens and Net Neutrality. Should YOU care?

Posted by Luis-Manuel Morales in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y2 on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 9:43 am

NEt Neutrailt
Well, you have somehow stumbled upon my blog post. And as you can tell from the title, I am going to talk about Net Neutrality. But first, a little background. Net Neutrality is what is cheapening to your internet data right now! As of the day I am writing this, (12/23/2014) Internet Service Providers are not allowed to treat your data differently than they way they treat mines or anyone else. However, this might change.

Recently there has been a huge debate over this lately. ISP's aren't exactly happy about some of the views in our government. Take president Obama as an example. Many republicans are angry over his view on the matter. Sure, this happens all the time in Washington. You many be interested in this one though, and it does in fact relate to you.

If Net Neutrality is gone, the internet as it is now will be gone. You'll probably run into websites that your ISP ha blocked, because they can. You may also have slower internet, and you will need to pay more if you want faster internet. Which is just what you had before Net neutrally was gone. So chose what you want, a blocked, slowed down internet, or a normal fair one we have now. Because one day, this is going to be in our hands.

Net Neutrality Opinion

Posted by Tatiana Ream in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 12:36 pm

Have you ever wondered how you have access to any website without it saying “BLOCKED!”? Well, that’s Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is basically a principle of a service provider that helps you access any website/internet sources. It’s actually a very important thing for people to know about. Especially teens who is always using/on the internet to do many things like social media or homework.

Net Neutrality is important for teens to know about because they’re basically on the internet almost/every day, lets just say 24/7. Have you ever been on Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc and all of a sudden it kicks you out and say something like “you don’t have access to this website right now, try again later” or “ERROR” at the most random times? Thats maybe because you probably don’t have Net Neutrality. It sometimes can harm your parents because they’ll have to pay for you to be able to go on websites you want, whenever you want. Also, they’d have to pay for the speed of the internet, maybe thats why your wifi and internet has either been really slow or really fast.

Its good for teens to know about Net Neutrality because they should be grateful to have it. To be able to use the internet when they need help on homework, when they’re bored and want to go on youtube or netflix and when they need to keep contact with family and friends on twitter, instagram facebook, email etc. If it isn’t for my parents spending money on internet, wifi, etc for me and my family to use than I think laptops, phones tv etc wouldn’t exist in my mind.

Net Nuetrality

Net Neutrality is ¨the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.¨ Net Neutrality is crucial to keeping the pricing of online communication down. Just because I have dish, doesn’t give people who have comcast the right to faster internet and more content. Not only that the FCC had created their own loopholes so companies such as Netflix can make under the table deals with service providers for faster internet which is ultimately illegal. The internet as a utility would hurt the providers, because it would restrict them to a certain set of rules to the internet, making the internet market will become uncompetetive.

After learning about Net Neutrality, I have realized how important the internet and the digital world are to us, it has always been there in the back of my mind, but I cannot imagine my life without it. To give someone complete control of something so important to me and billions of other people seems not only unfair, but unjust. If the world shares data, who gets the right to have more? If net neutrality goes down the drain than we will have to keep paying more and more for something that deserves to be ours, a given right.

I feel that net neutrality is a matter that needs more attention, before our class on it, I had no idea that our internet speed was being compromised. Another problem with Net Neutrality is that average people benefit from the equality of speed and all available content, but big companies are at a disadvantage, so it makes sense that they are all for inequality. Net Neutrality is a major part of our lives, especially generation so we have to be very involved with this problem.

Net Neutrality

Untitled presentation
1. Net Neutrality is important for teens to understand and learn about because the FCC are the
ones that basically the ones that dictate your life on the internet. Teens need to be aware that
when they are logged onto the internet it is not private. With reading the article and the
discussions in class there is a need that teens and anyone in general needs to understand their
standing and the standing of their internet.

2. Google have spoken out a while ago about Net Neutrality. They were commenting on how a
large amount of internet providers slow down and speed up the internet that you are able to get.
Google stated ¨If Internet access providers can block some services and cut special deals that
prioritize some companies’ content over others, that would threaten the innovation that makes
the Internet awesome,” adding “No Internet access provider should block or degrade Internet
traffic, nor should they sell ‘fast lanes’ that prioritize particular Internet services over others.” I
think that internet providers should stick to their jobs and provide customers internet. I also
agree with what Google stated about blocking things from the internet would threaten the
awesomeness of the internet.

3. Many of the ISPs say that they feel like they have the right to control and block things that are
on the internet. They say that since other countries are able to censor sites; they want to do the
same and block sites that can threaten their business. Also if they do not have net neutrality
they will only be able to block sites that they feel like that are competion towards the company.
The site where I was able to provide this insight also said that both parties have valid opinions
that they both have to consider.
