The TV show we watched in class was called Digital Nation. To me the most memorable thing about the show was when the boy would go on social media and talk to this boy who made a website on different ways to kill your self. So the boy would get bully like everyday in school, so he planed to study this different ways so when the time comes he can kill him self. His father saw it coming so he kept a sharp eye on his son. And a couple day later he was reported that his son was hung in the boys bathroom from the school. Then the dad tried to cummunicate with the boy who gave he the way but he never text the dad back. I think it's important to watch shows like this because it show kids and adult what be going on in a child's head when stuff like this is happening to them, and sometimes they don't show it on the outside around friends and family. The way I would keep my future family safe online is first not to expose them to the wrong type of information online such as certain social media's. It's important to talk to family about internet safety because they may put the wrong type of information on the social media and that's unsafe for them. Such as email, address, school address, or where you work sometime because there can be a creep coming after you. What I would say to family's that don't know how to keep there children safe online is to check there phones and get there passwords to the social media's and only use it when something is important or something really dangerous happened.

US#8 Reflection- Sharron Norton

  • In class, we watched a video called Digital Nation. It was about the continuation of the virtual frontier. How it affects us and how we it becomes the center of our attention, and also the internet may help/hurt the world. The most memorable thing about this show was that the army recruits via gaming and when in the video when they showed all the things Movies such as this are documentaries which children our age don't watch because they pack information in like a balloon filling up with air.  We should watch videos on this topic because it tells about everything we already know, but don't want to pay attention to. Videos like this help people see their reality and how it affects us and it should not. And for my future family, I think by putting rules in place will keep them safe, but also showing them how you trust them. To always tell them when they start to look at sites that might affect their health and wellness. I don't want to be like the parents who kept the computer in the kitchen, but I also don't want to be the parent who lets their child do whatever on the computer. I want to be the future who has a give and take relation when dealing with the internet. Such as: the parents of the girl who expressed herself through picture art. In order for her to trust them with what she was doing, they first had to understand. At first the parents didn't until the realized how the internet brought something out in their daughter, then they excepted.

In class we watch Frontline's Digital Nation. The show points out many different things about the internet. One of them was teens growing up online. Teenagers are coming more and more amune to the internet. It can become addictive. Some teens in the video were addicted to social media others were addicted to video games. The most memorable thing that stood out to me was when one of the teenagers said that "when your're online you can anybody you want". This stood out to me because it's so true. Nobody knows who you really are online, it's a escape from reality. It's important to watch videos like these because it makes you realize hoe much we really do use the internet everyday and to not become addicted to it. It also makes you aware of all the dangers the internet can bring if you're not careful. I will keep my future family safe online by having a family computer in the living. Everyone will have their seprate account on the computer and everyone will have a hourly limit on the computer. I will also talk to them about all the dangers that are on the internet so they can be more aware. The advice that I would give to parents that don't know how to keep their their children safe will be to talk to them about the dangers of the internet. Also to have a hourly limit on how much time they can be online.

In class we watched Frontline's Digital Nation. The show was about a couple of teenagers who viewed online as a their own digital reality. They were able to really be themselves on the internet without any real physical judgement. The most memorable thing that stood out to me was the ending part when "Autumn's" parents begin to accept her for who she is and who she really wants to be. It is very important to watch shows lie these because it is REALITY! It gives you a feel of people's everyday life. It makes you feel for them and basically just lets you know that there are people out there who are struggling with these types of problems. My future family will remain safe online by following rules and regulations that I set for them. (ie. Tell an adult if there is anything that makes you feel uncomfortable) Also, I will be really strict with enforcing those rules. I believe it is important to talk about internet safety with your family even though people don't do it. It is important because at the end of the day you want to keep your family safe and at well-being. Make sure you check in on your child's online activity even if you have to do it on a sneak.

In class we watched Frontline's Digital Nation. It contained a variety of stories from a teenagers perspective and how they behave online. This show talked about how teens would confined to people online about their problems and not tell their parents anything. I would say that the most memorable part about this show would be how it contained teenagers and their point of view. Which relates to may teenagers like me. I would say that this is important to watch because it can teach many teenagers to behave online and not to rely on people online all the time. To keep my future family safe online I will limit the time online for only 3-5 hours a day. It is important to talk to your family about internet safety because you can tell them something that they can help you with. For example if someone is stalking you online, you can tell your parents the problem to resolve it. And also they can be more aware of the situation. I would tell these parents to make sure they watch their kids when they are online to keep their identity safe!

U2 #8 Media Reflection Ariana Flores

In class we watched Frontline's Digital Nation. It consisted of a variety of stories  about teenagers online. There was a teen with an eating disorder, teen with a secret identity, and another who was a victim of cyber bullying. It talked about parents wanting to know that their kids were safe online, and those who couldn't get through to their teenagers because they were staring at a screen almost 24/7. The most memorable part of the film was the child that hung himself because he was getting cyber bullied. I was so mad that the other kid was encouraging the child to commit suicide and felt that maybe if he wasn’t being manipulated or talked to like that, there may have been a chance that he could still be alive. It’s important to watch these shows because they bring awareness to the actions, repercussions/consequences, and lives of teens online. I will keep my family family safe online by speaking to my kids about online trolls or strangers. I would not want them to talk to anyone online that they don’t know. I’d at least ask that we follow each other on social media so that I know what’s being posted. I would also make sure that they don’t go on any strange sites or post anything controversial as well as anything about their private lives. It’s important to know internet safety in our families so that bad situations don’t arise and the unknown of the internet  doesn’t  start to confuse us. I would tell parents to make sure that their children don’t talk to strangers online or go on strange sites. I would also say that what a child is posting should be monitored, but not so much that a parent is smothering their child.

U2 #8 Reflection: Christina Santana

The Tv Show we watched in class was Front-line's Digital Nation. This show was about online safety and the effects that the internet has on the kids of our generation. The most memorable thing about this show was the kids that they showed in it. This was memorable because the all suffered from many different issue and the main cause of those issues was the internet. It is important to watch shows like this because it shows kids the effect that the internet could have on them if they are not safe online, and it also is a way of “scaring them straight”. I will keep my family safe by discussing rules that we would all follow when using the internet. I will also watch videos with them about online safety, such as this one. It is important to talk with your family about internet safety because it will help prevent anything bad from happening to you or any of your family members. I would suggest that they check their kids social media accounts occasionally and that they establish a relationship built on trust with their kids. This will help keep us all safe from any harm they could come from the internet.

The shows we watched were Digital Nation and growing up online. They were about families who were affected by the internet in someway, most of them were negative. The memorable part in the show was the kid who found out how to hang himself online and committed suicide shortly after.  It is important to watch shows like this because you get a better understanding for how to use the internet in a good way. I will keep m future family safe by not letting my children get social media until a certain age. It is important to talk about internet safety so my child who may have confidence issues won't get bullied online and want to kill themselves. I would tell them not to meet strangers from online.

In class, we've watched two TV shows produced by Frontline--Digital Nation and Growing Up Online.

Digital Nation was a film that discussed how we as a nation have transitioned to depend on the internet. The film emphasized how the nation has become more reliant on the internet as a whole. Growing Up Online focused on several examples of how kids in the new generation use the internet. It focused more on individuals. Both films discussed the advantages and dangers of such a technology.

The most memorable thing from either film was when that kid, whose name I do not recall, killed himself. It was utterly shocking. He was bullied in school and wanted his dad to teach him how to fight. His dad didn't want him to start fights, but encouraged him to defend himself. Eventually, he learned how to fight, which seemed like the tide turning moment, but even then, he still took his life.

I think it's important to watch shows like these because it teaches people what such a technology can do. While it can be beneficial in many forms, there are even more ways it can destroy you. I think the topics discussed and the kids in the show are easily relatable to the general public. People don't often stop to think about what they're doing online, and shows like these can make them more reflective of their internet activities.

To keep my future family safe online, I will set fairly strict restrictions. Although this may be frowned upon, is it better for the long run.

It is important to talk to your family about internet safety because anyone can be a victim to its dangers. Unlike physical sports, which often go hand-in-hand with accidental injuries, people don't think about getting harmed when they're online, something people typically look at as a form of recreation. Because of this, many people can be taken by surprise.

For parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online, I would recommend to just take away that privilege from them. The only way to prevent it definitely, at least at home, is to not give the option for it.
