Growing Up Online Reflection

Posted by Boubou Magassa in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:22 pm

      Growing Up Online
1. What was this show about? It was about how kids in the era of the beginning of internet were being taken over by it. It was also saying that kids were also influenced bad by it.

2. What is the most memorable thing to you about this show? When there was that girl who was an "ana" person. She had a disorder which make people think their fat and fast and starve themselves so they can look perfect.

3. Why/Why not -  is it important to watch shows like these? It is important to make people aware of the dangers that are in things that we eat, see, and use everyday. It makes us more cautious so we don't make horrible mistakes.

4. How will you keep your future family safe online? I will teach them to be more cautious and watch out for scams. If I'm able to I will teach them to know code so they can see if sites are scamming them. I will also have filters to block out most of the bad sites. But, for the most of it I will let them have fun.

5. Why is it important to talk with your family about internet safety? It can help a lot because it will prevent rape, murder or even bankruptcy.

6. What advice would you give to parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online? To first learn how to use the internet and find the best blockers and find games that are fun and interactive for your kid so they will play that then going on the web. I don't know because there are many things you can do, but first just know your child.

Reflection for second slide.

Untitled presentation (2)
The main critique of my slide was that they had a hard looking at the picture because it was cut of at a weird spot.  The slide was not really proportioned correctly.  I fixed this by replacing the picture. I was told that the picture was good and did good job drawling your attention but it was not complex enough that I needed to stare at it.  After thinking about the comments on my slide I started to agree with what they were saying.  I learned that  I needed to proportion it a lot better.  The other main change  I had was making the words to closer the picture.  This helped it be easier to read and then look back it at me.  I also removed my name from the slide since that was not needed.

  • Growing up online

The show was about how teenagers and children use the internet and how much it affects their everyday life. The show was also about how the children's parents and community react to the internet and how it affects the kids.

What is the most memorable thing to you about this show?
the most memorable thing from the show was how much it reflected me by what these kids were doing. Before, watching I didn't realize how much the internet affected my daily life and how I  reacted to the internet and its influences.

It is important to watch shows like this because it reflects what kids are like today and why we are like this, so it showcases things I need to improve on in my use of the internet.

How will you keep your future family safe online?
I will make sure that the kids aren't participating in inappropriate activities online and that they know how to be responsible with their use of the internet.

Why is it important to talk with your family about internet safety
Because people on the internet aren't gonna always be there but your family will and if your parents are good enough parents they will teach you how to be responsible on the internet.

What advice would you give to parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online?
I would advise them to watch this video that we watched and to use they internet for themselves and adjust their children's use to their preference.

    Digital Nation Reflection, Ahmed Ahmed

Posted by Ahmed Ahmed in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:55 am

We watched a television show called Digital Nation. The show was about how teenagers' experience with the internet and how the internet affected them. To me the most memorable part of the show was the segment where a married couple were interviewed and talked about how long they were together and so, but the craziest thing about their relationship, is that they met on an online game. It is important to watch these videos. These videos allow viewers to be aware of what would and/or could happen to them if they continue to use the internet for a long period of time. I would keep my future family safe by limiting computer access to a couple hours a day and activating safe search. It is important to talk about internet safety with your family so you can prevent them from seeing or doing things on the internet before they actually occur. I would tell them to take away all online devices to cut off all communication to the internet or enlist them in a fun program to reduce their time online.

It's important to watch shows like these to learn about your surroundings on the internet.

I'm probably going to use website restrictions on the computer as well as time restrictions.

It's important to talk to your family about internet safety, making sure they know what to do and how to handle something that occurs on the internet.

Make sure your children know how to stay safe online, teaching them the right and wrongs of the internet. Check up on your children once in a while and not every 5 minutes. Give them some computer restrictions I guess.

Digital Nation Reflection - Matt Reed

Posted by Matthew Reed in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 8:04 am

We watched Digital Nation, it was about the internet. The show gave stories on both sides of the internet, people who dislike it and people who enjoy it. The most memorable thing about this show was when the boy, Ryan, was cyber bullied. He ended committing suicide. This really just made me think about how dangerous the internet can be. It is important to watch shows like this so you don't just feel one way about the internet. Yes, the internet may be a scary place, but it can also be a place to play games and get helpful information. Talking to your parents is very important because they can keep you from the scary depths of the internet. For the parents that don't know how to keep their kids safe, I have some advice for you. Monitor your childrens activities, but don't tell them.

The Show I watched was called Growing Up Online. It was about Teenagers and Adults, and the affect the internet had on them. The most memorable thing from this show was seeing the treatment for internet addiction. Some kids were sent to camps to help with their addiction. it is important to watch shows like this because they inform you with a lot of information. I will create a set of rules for my future family once I have a family. It always is important to talk with your family, and internet safety is no different. You should touch face with your family and get their perspectives. The advice I would give is to get a grip of what their child is capable of online.
