I really liked how you broke down ideas in your essay. Your thesis made perfect sense to me with the way you used examples from the book and the outside world to prove it, especially when you talked about how objectively, symbols usually have little to no value, but have great personal and/or religious value. I also liked how you used the fire as a symbol of rescue and the pig as a symbol of accepting fate on the island. This was great analysis :)

I liked this topic a lot and your thesis played well throughout the piece. It brought up a lot of questions such as if the conch was such a powerful symbol, why did they smash it or disrespect the rules of not talking when someone else held it? At what point does a symbol lose it's power and what happens then? This essay really left me wanting more (in a good way). I'm not a complete green light on the topic, but I believe this essay is definitely headed in that direction. One of the things that has always popped out to me that came to mind while reading this was the symbolism of Piggy's glass and the power it had. To the group, it's purpose was to make fire which to Ralph, was the most important thing, therefore giving Piggy a sense of value to the group if his advice and reason wasn't enough. Good job!
