Element Print
My element is mercury with the atomic number 80. Mercury is used in many objects such as mascara, neon advertising signs and most famously thermostats. Not to get confused the element mercury is a metal that unlike most is liquid at standard temperature conditions. My design is based off the tomb of the first emperor of China. Although more famously known for the terracotta warriors he was buried with to protect him his tomb was also surrounded by rivers flowing mercury on a model of the land he ruled, representative of the rivers in China.
To make my print I started with a sketch. It took multiple tries to get it right but eventually I had a sketch I was proud off on normal paper. Next I transferred the image onto the stencil. In order for the print to come out right I needed to flip the image (letter and number coming out backwards). Then I applied paint to the stencil and pressed it onto paper to create a print. I repeated this multiple times until I had a fair number of prints I was proud of. Once I had prints I used a ruler to rip the image out. I matted 2 of the prints on colored paper. If I did this again I would print more and try to get more good prints. I liked the printing process the most because it was something I had never done before and taught me alot. To take this to a larger scale I could see myself using these techniques or similar ones to print t-shirts in the future.
Positive/Negative Space Cut-out
a. Negative space is the space that surrounds an image, you can think of it as the background.
b. I found the negative space in my image by cutting around the image/main subject. That leaves you with all the space around the image or the negative space.
c. This helps an artist to see in negative space because it immediately differentiates the negative and positive spaces. It makes one pop out of the other and allows the artist to see how they look together.
d. Negative space adds another element to the art. If used the right way it could help the viewer focus on the main subject or creates a second image.
Remix Slide
After presenting my slide and getting critique from my peers I learned a lot about my own slide. Although they didn't suggest anything major, they were good critiques nonetheless. I learned that I should change my font to something more meaningful or that fits the slide better. They also suggested adding a quote or other words within the slide, possibly on the skyline. After looking at other people's slides I also learned that it is good to have the picture overlap with the borders as it makes the picture seem larger.
After the feedback and looking at other people's slides I made a couple changes to my slide. The first change was to have the same font as the Philadelphia Inquirer because it makes it more meaningful. To do this I took an image of the logo and cut the word "Philadelphia" out of it. The second change was to add a quote in the silhouette of the city. I made the quote in white so that it is easy to read and your eyes are drawn to it from the start. I feel as though my slide is much better now and I learned a lot about how to design my slides in the future.
The research I did to make my slide skewed my thoughts a lot. By this I mean that what I might've thought was a good slide before my research might not still be a good slide in my opinion because of all the stuff I now know about good slides. In my research I learned that the text and images should be contrasting so that yo can read the words easily. It is also important to really think about how the viewers eyes are going to move throughout the slide. If you want the reader to read something first either have it bigger than the rest or place it in the top left (rule of thirds). Tech Project
For my project I focused on 3 main points that I learned from my research.
The first point was using contrasting colors. I used blue so that your eyes are drawn to the text but not distracted by the image in grey. I learned that it is important to have contrast between your background and text so that your text is legible.
The second point I learned was to keep your slide simple. In my slide I only have a picture and 2 words but they can tell you a whole story and give a lot of information about somebody. During my research I found that it is most visually pleasing to only have one image, not have too many colors and not use crazy fonts.
The third point I found was the rule of thirds. This point focuses mainly on the placement of images and text. As if there were imaginary lines dividing the slide into three pieces, images and pictures should be placed inside of those thirds. Although the image doesn’t really follow it the words fall in the top left corner making it more aesthetically pleasing the having the words all over the place.

Home Network-Elliot Snyder
1) My L.A.N consists of many devices all over my house. Each of my family members have a phone (4), one android and 4 iPhones. Additionally we have a combined 4 computers and one iPad. We also have a printer and one Xbox.
2) Although I already knew a lot about the internet and how it works I did learn somethings. I learned where it comes from in more detail and how exactly it gets to our house.
3) I would tell them to do their own research and look in their own house to learn.
