Element Print (Fluorine)

Posted by Hannah Flanagan in Art - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 am
My element is Fluorine and it has the atomic number of 9. It is the lightest halogen and appers naturally as a gas. It was isolated in 1886 by a French chemist named Ferdinand Ferderic Henri Moissan. It is used in iron welding, and when mixed with water it is used toothpaste and tap water to prevent cavities. I got the idea to do iron welding for my print because I didn't want to do a basic drawing of a bottle of toothpaste. I thought that this was something that not a lot of people knew, and it would show well with negative space.
To create this, I first drew my drawing onto a 4 by 6 piece of paper. I then drew it on tracing paper, and then drew my drawing backwards onto the styrofoam canvas. I think put the ink on my canvas, pushed it down onto a paper with a regular piece of paper, and then slowly removed the paper from the canvas. I then ripped off the edges from the print, and then put it onto a 5 by 7 mat.
If I could do this project again, I would fill up more space on the canvas, becauase it is pretty bare. I would also make more prints, that way I could have more options when it came to which ones I was turning in. Finally, I would try and measure the mat better, The frist time I tried to put my print onto the mat, all my measurements were off, and I had to do it all again. The part of this project I enjoyed the most was putting the ink onto the canvas. I had never done it before, so it was cool to learn how to do it and see how it came out everytime.

Negative space is creating the spaces between the foward most objects. I found negative space in the house I drew by cutting out one side of the house. I then took out all of the parts that I cut out, and the outline that remained. I then glued them onto the paper. This gives the apperence of the other side of the house, without it actually bring there. It helps an artist see in negative space, because the spaces can help elevate a piece and make it more powerful. I feel that in most cases seeing in negative space enhances a drawing. It can make it a lot more appealing to the person looking at it, and really makes the art look more professional.

Remix One Google Slide- Hannah Flanagan

Tech Presentation (1)

The changes I was given really helped with changing my slide. I was told the heart in the side of the slide was barely visible and you couldn’t really see it. It didn't even think about the fact that the slide would look different being projected. Secondly, I was told my name was unnecessary for the slide. That taught me that text is really less, and that we all know the slide is about me, so my name doesn’t really need to be there. Finally, I learned that the more people say things you could of done better, the better you are going to get. I knew going into this that my slide wasn’t very good. But after presenting, I saw everyone’s minds come together and really help me improve on my slide.

I really only had to make three changes to my side. First I got rid of my name because I was told that I didn’t really need it there. Secondly, I fixed the lining of my quote. There was just “Emerson” on the bottom line and that was kind of a problem. So I just moved my text over to the left, which made all of my quote go on two lines. Finally, I changed the heart on my slide completely. I was told to maybe make a constellation heart, but I couldn’t really find a picture of that. So, I decided to use a heart made of paw prints. I did this because my old dog Jake passed away, but I also recently got a new dog named Winter. I care about these dogs a lot, so I decided to talk about that and me being a kind hearted person. I also changed the placement of the heart. Since I really love dogs, it put it around the moon to say “I love them to the moon and back”.

I used a few sources to make an amazing slide. First, I used Presentation Zen, which was given to us by Ms. Hull. This was the first website I really went to for good ideas, but it gives you a more basic idea of what a slide needs in it to be amazing. Secondly, I used tutsplus.com to create a more professional looking slide. Presentation Zen gave me good ideas, but I feel like they didn’t look too professional looking all together. Finally, the last big website I used was learninginhand.com. This website had a lot of cool tricks to making a really interesting slide. I used this website to add a shadow to my quote.

Overall, I learned a lot after presenting my slide. After hearing the critiques from my fellow classmates and Ms. Hull, it opened my eyes to new things I never even noticed. After hearing that I know now why I needed to change to grow as a person and a student. With the critiques I was given and the other research I did, I believed I enhanced my slide even more.

Ways to Make a Good Slide

Posted by Hannah Flanagan in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 8:18 pm

So here is my slide. There are many reasons why I chose to make my slide look like this. First, I chose this background for three reasons. First because of the symmetry. Symmetry is not only appealing to the eye, but it also makes your slide look more interesting and professional. Secondly, I really am interested in nature, so instead of writing that out, I put in an image of a tree to resemble that. Finally, I like the colors present on the picture, so again instead of writing my favorite colors, which creates more words, I could pick an image that have those colors.

Also. I put a heart in my thing for two reasons. First I put it to the side for the bleeding effect. We all know the other half of the heart, so I can have more blank space by only putting half of it. Secondly, I like to believe that I am a kind hearted person, so the heart is there to represent that. With adding a picture, it eliminates the need for words.

Finally, I used a quote that really represented my mentality towards life. I firmly believe that if you do things in life that are given to you, you won’t get far or enjoy the life that you have. But, if you challenge yourself throughout your life, you will benefit and thank yourself in the future. Again, instead of writing all of that out, I put a quote that gets that message across. I also made the font pretty big that way you guys can read it and I made the text color light, that way it was a color contrast and easily visible.

Overall, with all of the research I did, the websites Ms. Hull provided, and my basic knowledge of how to make a good slide, I was able to make, what I believe to be, a good slide that really shows who I am.

Home Network- Hannah Flanagan

Posted by Hannah Flanagan in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 7:59 pm
I have XFinity Wifi that connects with a coaxial wire. All of the devices in my house are wireless and the wifi provided. I learned a lot while doing this project. I learned how that most, if not all, companies use a different wire and router. Before this I though there was only one kid of wire, and I didn't know it had an actual name. Finally, I would tell other people to know about their network, because the more you know about it, the more you can understand it as a whole.
