Joshua Henry Capstone

Through my capstone my goal was to create a podcast that would hopefully attract a lot of publicity, reach out to people of all ages, local communities, and even teachers. My podcast was to purely focus on politics in America. With me being the host I planned to discuss political issues, current news, and discuss theories and share my experiences through a mic. Where I’d be able to talk to tens of people, possibly hundreds and discuss the importance of politics and the roles it plays in the life of an average american citizen. I wanted to focus on my specific political views. I worked out a plan to gather materials and a safe space for my podcast. I wanted to share my knowledge with the world. I like to identify myself as a moderate republican. The reason I chose this project was a personal matter. The expectation was that I’d be able to shed some light of african american republicans and obtain a grade at the same time. I was inspired to do this project because throughout my high school experience peers, strangers, even adults looked at me differently for being a republican. Any argument my words seemed to have little value as the person on the other side of the table had already made up their mind about what type of person I was considering I was republican. I was always told that I should automatically be a democrat simply based on the color of my skin, my beliefs and characteristics were expected to fit in with my fellow black community. The idea of being a “trump supporter” while black was almost seen as if I was alienated to other people of my own skin color.
