My goal was to make a website about the struggles of suffering with anxiety and depression. From personal experience it is one of the most alone feelings in the whole world and I wanted to make a space where people could communicate and support one another. Dealing with mental health issues is something that is very hard to open up about and for people who don't experience them as severely it can be hard to understand so I also wanted to raise awareness. process paper: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L7ClTZpv6am_YU1XGqv8_TxT23Ybwny8taQBXLxUZ2U/edit?usp=sharing bibliography: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LaM26EMDK8yNWpxtk6XsqMPg5wJFO0hJv6c5OpmPYz8/edit?usp=sharing slideshow: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1LLULnxtz25hmEqEjTzIegmhz2807a0ZnOost_HLLWRI/edit?usp=sharing

Science Leadership Academy is a school that has an abundance of culture due to how diverse it is. For my capstone I wanted to focus on Asian culture, and spread more Asian representation within the school, and I did this by making a club. The club ran from the end of the last year until the closing of the school due to Covid-19, and since my capstone was to focus on how I would spread Asian Culture within the school community,I had to modify my capstone. During the duration of the club we were supposed to have a few food sales in which we would donate the proceeds to an Asian foundation. Near the end of the club I was also to make a mural that would represent Asians within the school community in which the club, if it were to continue, could add on to. The club was also to help Nhu Lai, the Asian Alliance Cub Co- Leader, with her capstone, in which she was to run a gallery. To modify my capstone I had to ask myself, how would I be able to keep the concept of spreading Asian Culture or Asian issues within the school community? Since the club has already had many meetings filled with a lot of discussion about Asian Issues taking place in the modern day, I thought I would make a few posters spreading finite information about those topics that we discussed in the club, as well as the flag mural that the future club could continue on. Through my capstone my goal was to create a podcast that would hopefully attract a lot of publicity, reach out to people of all ages, local communities, and even teachers. My podcast was to purely focus on politics in America. With me being the host I planned to discuss political issues, current news, and discuss theories and share my experiences through a mic. Where I’d be able to talk to tens of people, possibly hundreds and discuss the importance of politics and the roles it plays in the life of an average american citizen. I wanted to focus on my specific political views. I worked out a plan to gather materials and a safe space for my podcast. I wanted to share my knowledge with the world. I like to identify myself as a moderate republican. The reason I chose this project was a personal matter. The expectation was that I’d be able to shed some light of african american republicans and obtain a grade at the same time. I was inspired to do this project because throughout my high school experience peers, strangers, even adults looked at me differently for being a republican. Any argument my words seemed to have little value as the person on the other side of the table had already made up their mind about what type of person I was considering I was republican. I was always told that I should automatically be a democrat simply based on the color of my skin, my beliefs and characteristics were expected to fit in with my fellow black community. The idea of being a “trump supporter” while black was almost seen as if I was alienated to other people of my own skin color. For my capstone, I wanted to create a project that would have an impact on the SLA community and even others outside of it, such as my family and friends. I live between the Hispanic world and the American world. I never really faced any challenges until I went to high school because growing up, I went to schools that were mainly ethnically speaking, Hispanic. It’s hard to balance at times since walking out of my home, it is a different environment I have to face every day. I wanted to portray that by making a documentary about what it is like being a Hispanic in America. The documentary was going to go deep into the social and emotional impact I’ve gone through and how people who go through the same challenges as I do, are not alone. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I was not able to begin filming for the documentary making this project not precisely what I wanted. I was able to complete an interview that was going to be apart of the mini-film and collected other types of research that will be presented in a google slide show.

I love learning new things so for my I learned about the different art forms and also showing appreciation to the people at SLA that has helped me learn. For my project, I learned a lot about sculpting and film making. Using what I learned I made two sculptures and a video about SLA teachers and staff. This is to show everyone at SLA that not only they have affected us students but also as people. The sculptures are solely made by me and the video is made from the help of my fellow classmates. For my senior project, I created an online resource for high school students who are dealing with stress. Initially, I had planned to give back to the SLA community in a physical way but my senior year was cut short so I had to adjust and adapt. Living in the age of technology I decided that the best way that I could create a long-lasting resource for high school students would be to create an Instagram page. The Instagram page is filled with information about managing stress. While completing this project I’ve learned new techniques to manage my stress. Also, I’ve learned that I am more connected to my school community than I once believed. After talking to my peers I learned that we were stressing and struggling about similar things. Knowing that the people around me were stressing about similar things made it somewhat more comforting and welcoming, hence the handle name @stressintogether_

I love farm animals and everything about farms. my original capstone idea was going to be about the incubation and hatching process for chickens. The chickens got really sick all of the sudden and I didn't know what was going on. I changed my plans to then work on what was wrong with the chickens. I am so proud of myself for figuring out what was wrong with the chickens and then saving all of their lives. this experience made me feel like I really can have my own farm one day. I made a book to leave in the school where the chickens live. It gives information on mites and how I treated them as well as other information on chickens. Hello my name is Payton McQuilkin. Something that has impacted my life tremendously since a young age has been an addiction. Family members have suffered through this disease and I watched someone I love turn into someone I loathe. I knew since I heard about this project that I wanted to leap helping fight addiction. For my project, I raised as much money as I could by selling tickets for a raffle. This raffle was pierced at $5.00 and had three prizes, including Sixers Tickets, $100.00 cash, and a $50.00 gift card to Chickie and Pete’s. My mentor, Tina Curtin, and I’s plan are to find someone in need and help them. I know there are people out there who have no family, no insurance, no support, they have nothing who need it. My idea was to help them along with their rehab cost, possibly after that with a sober living cost and help. Since COVID-19 I have not been able to donate yet but I am excited to after this is over. We are working on trying to find someone safely at this time, without putting our selves at risk. This experience has helped me become even more passionate about being a nurse. I have love and compassion in my heart for helping people and I can’t wait to get there someday. Linked here is a copy of my bibliography that helped me with gaining all the knowledge for this project. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1us1gaWlrBdVktEsMM25v9nL-AR2J-2k6_KwOh6vRaLo/edit?usp=sharing

I made a set of slides that talk about current issues in cybersecurity. I gathered information, Created the slides, and posted the information into them and added an explanation to that information. The thing I’ve learned from this project is that cybersecurity issues can happen anywhere and anytime.

Cyber security, Morals and YOU!
