Max Amar-Olkus - Q2 project
At the beginning of the quarter I had a more relaxed work ethic because I decided my own curriculum. I knew what I wanted to do and I made it happen. I got a camera and took hundreds of photos by the time we had reached the middle of the quarter. After this I found inspiration while watching a simple candle melt. I found this very symbolic with regards to artwork and life. Just as a candle starts as a perfect structure created by an artist that slaved over it for their lifetime, it only takes hours to disappear. But as the Hindu religion dictates, destruction breeds creation. The candle is no longer in its original form after being lit but the aftermath is often very beautiful. I decided to melt candles and pour their liquid form over my own personal photography. I decided to create a six photo series that represents what it means to live in an urban setting where destruction and creation are present all around us. The first piece is called, "Vandalism at 65 Mph." The second piece is my personal favorite and called, "A Perfect View Of Life." The third piece is a bit more abstract and called, "A Zippo to Destroy Us All." The fourth piece is a representation of the separation of wealth in the world and is called, "I Have Central Air, Do you?" The fifth piece reflects on friendships and is named, "Burning Bridges." The last individual piece is called, "Which Way Is The Sky?"
Thank You.
Thank You.
