Negative Space

Negative space the area around an object within a certain frame. The object itself would be the positive space because there is a object that is there. The space where there is nothing is the negative space. It is just a background. Within my cut out, one side of the paper was positive and the other was negative. Within my stool drawing, the object was the positive space and the background was the negative space. Negative space helps an artist to see the actual shape and definition of an object. Negative Space brings out the drawing. It makes an object pop.
