Benchmark: convention center.

Posted by Gilberto Gonzalez in Globalization - Laufenberg on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11:16 am

The convention center in center city philadelphia shockingly helps the city in many ways. Its a commonly forgotten place by many people within the city, and a hated place by many people in the city due to the fact it is trying to expand into their area. But expanding the convention center wasn’t a bad idea. This past weekend I happened to be down town and saw thousands of people flocking into the convention center I thought i’d check out what was going on.

Once I arrived inside I saw that there were thousands of people there playing yu-gi-oh. I myself play yu-gi-oh and would have never expected this many people in the city to play the game its a child card game and the convention center was filled with countless older men playing.

So I went around and interviewed the the surrounding stores and interviewed the people that worked there. I went to two McCdonalds, and the gallery and I interviewed them and asked the managers at the McCdonalds about how there weekend has been going at that time they all said amazing because of the fact how many people where there opposed to the regular weekend. One of them said they have a list of events that the convention center has and what event it is, he said “I didn’t think a kids game would bring us so much business.” this was actually at the McCdonalds on 10th street which was 5 blocks away from the event.

The manager then went into that the events at the convention center actually bring all of the public businesses even the businesses in chinatown get more business so the convention center brings a lot of business to the city.

While at the convention I actually met people from other countries. I made trades with these really nice guys from germany. They traded english cards for german cards which have more values and I actually made a lot of money in that day.

Overall the city benefits at least center city benefits from it, people fly in brining the air port money, places get more business because there are more people. The convention center is a great thing for the city.

What did you find most challenging about this project?

I found that the most challenging part about this project was finding a story.

How did you go about finding this story?

I actually just did what I usually do on my normal weekend and found something interesting that I enjoy.

Why do you think this story does not receive more attention?

People never actually talk about the good of it when people think of the convention center they usually think about how its trying to grow into chinatown.

Do you think this story will get more attention over the next few months?  Why?  Why not?

No. Because it’s not something people think about.

What did you learn?

That the convention center plays a big role in the city.

This project is a story written and drawn by Gilberto Gonzalez Jr

Abstract: In this project I wrote and drew a comic book. In the process of making the final product. Some of the things I learned are different drawing techniques, how to write a consistent story. Those are two important factors because my drawing skills at the time I started this capstone weren't on par with my current level of drawing, same could be said with my ability to create an original story.

There are more pages that will be in the comic but i’d like to save them for the presentation.

5 Point Framework, Collapse - Gonzalez

Posted by Gilberto Gonzalez in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 9:51 am
I decided to try and cover all of Sub Saharan Africa. That didn't work out to well but I also covered south korea. Sub Saharan Africa consist of many small countries, and it's a desert area where the outcome of everything basically depends on the weather. If they don't have rain they will not have crops and they will go trough a drought. South Korea has no real problems other than North Korea being north of it and the pollution in the air from all the industry in the general area. It is surrounded by water and is relatively close to china and japan.

If I where to change one thing about the project I would change my work ethic and how much I payed attention to deadlines. I totally forgot that this project was due until monday morning when it was brought up in class. So next time I plan on looking at moodle more often. As the project progressed I choose to use the research from my other projects and summarized it based on the five point framework. To me if you read collapse the five point frame work is very easy to understand. Because of the fact that it gives a few examples while the first chapter goes on.

Drive

Posted by Gilberto Gonzalez in Digital Video -4 day a week - Herman on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 12:15 am
Drive is a movie i've never heard of until it was brought up in my Digital Video Class. When I saw the trailer I thought to myself, "Oh it's gonna be like fast and the furious mixed with the god father." that was my initial assumption based on the trailer for the movie; which is why most of you I assume came to read this article. The movie is spectacular in almost every aspect. The film included things I feel could relate to all of the viewers, it was a very fast paced movie that kept me at the edge of my seat.

Within the movie Goslings' character, tended to keep to himself. As the movie progresses he begins to develop emotions for a woman, who is currently married due to her husband being in Jail. Despite that she continues to develop the relationship between he and Golsing they're relationship is what drives the film forward without Irene the movie would be completely different. The director of this movie has a very unique way in making the relationship between characters stand out; whenever two characters within the movie in general the author takes into account the type of views each character has of each other he uses, angles, lighting, and the music to his advantage.

As I watched the movie the Style of the movie gave you could say turned me on towards the movie. It was very retro style but it used it in all of the right ways no part of the movie was bad or unoriginal. Without a doubt as you watch may things will get you hooked but to me the thing that will have the largest effect on you is the musical note pad for each individual person.

When it comes to the movie aside from being very retro its very dark. The colors always kept to a certain type of font along with a general lighting that was very well done. Like in the scene where the drivers boss arm gets slit. At that very moment it seems as if time slows down to the point where he could stop it but the lighting and the music end up making it unreturn able.

Overall Drive is a good move; one man, one car, one girl, and one life. This movie also consist of a very good back story to all the characters and is unraveled to the viewer as the movie progresses which allows it to make more sense.

In most cases aside from clean and dirty water. I thought a lot less of the world had access to clean water when in reality about 80% or more of the world had access to it.

The one that shocked me the most had to be the water. I thought with all of the third world countries thatclean water would be hard for them to access.

chart_4 (1)
I thought that all the third world countries had a harder time getting to clean water. I was spot on with most languages because while growing up i've gone to pretty diverse schools and I just kind of went along with the make up of the schools from my perspective

Traitor

Despite the fact it's a terrorist movie which I tend to not like the movie overall was actually rather amusing. There weren't very many parts which I could say were bad or parts I'd really want to critique. It was well done story line wise. The visuals of the movie were very nice with an exception of the angles in some of the running scenes, in the very beginning of the movie there was a scene with the US military running towards a building but the camera was looking at them from almost ground level so the majority of the image was the floor lower body of the people. I felt as if they could have done that better. There was a scene within the movie where they chased down a young terrorist the organization recruited and threw him off the side of a bridge to get hit by a train the angles and the way the camera was worked during the chase scene and the body being thrown was done well. The music in the movie kept it alive it made me feel some what on the edge of my seat as I watched.

As the main character Samir Horn was organizing and selling bombs to the islamic organizations. He was a former U.S soldier and Citizen. The FBI, and the CIA begin to track Samir as he tries to set up multiple terror attacks on all 50 states. The movie ends with Samir saving his country he puts all of the terrorist on the same bus and it only ends up killing a few citizens and he becomes hospitalized and once he is better he is greeted by Clayton the man who was chasing him down.

Spanish Rice - Gilberto Gonzalez

Posted by Gilberto Gonzalez in Science and Society - Best on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 10:13 am
Ingredients and Analysis

1. Get 2 cups of water to boil.

2. Pour rice into pot and stir it with the Seasoning and Sofrioto.

3. Add the boiling water, and let it sit for 20-25 minutes.

4. Mix the rice some more and let it sit, for 5-10 minutes.

Rice, Sofrito, and Goya Seasoning. Rice isn't unhealthy for anyone and vegetarians can eat it. The goya seasoning is just the seasoning that gives the rice the spanish flare also edible by vegetarians, and sofrito is homemade which is spices and vegetables so it is also edible by vegetarians.

Spanish rice is something eaten quite often within spanish families, it's dinner or lunch almost every day. Its usually not the main dish but a supporter to other dishes such as fish, beef, steak, and anything else. To families that don't have their own recipe they usually use goya products to make the spanish rice or season it.

When I was thinking of what I wanted to make thats all natural I asked my dad. We looked around the house and found rice and the Goya seasoning. The rice we used was from japan because it was bought at the asian market. So the rice traveled quite far and the goya seasoning is usually made in america so the seasoning didn't cost much.

The meal in total cost is cheap depending on the amount of rice, seasoning, and sofrito you use.

Reflection

In this unit I didn't learn much. This unit just opened up my eyes a bit more to my surroundings. I was aware of how unhealthy, and processed many foods are but I continued to eat them. In this unit I was reminded what happens to the burgers I eat, and all the other food I eat this unit reminded me how they mistreat the food I eat. It makes me somewhat indecisive when it comes to choosing food because I think to myself how much of a terrible life the animals had and what they had to deal with their whole life. An example would be that in the movie we watched the cows had holes in the side of their stomachs to allow the farmers to take out the crap they didn't need that would get stuck in their stomach due to eating corn when they're meant to eat grass. I'd imagine the cows dealt with all sorts of pain.

In this unit the main thing I learned was that the organic food cost more than processed food is a myth because of a homework assignment. Most of the prices where similar and the only time processed was cheaper was when it was fast food such as mcdonalds.

Blog Post #2 Gonzalez

1. How is sound produced by this instrument (now that you know more about sound, please try to refer specifically to the energy transfer and vibrations)?

Vibrations of the strings create a sound similar to a tuning fork. The body of the guitar amplifies the sounds.

2. Based on your understanding, how are you changing the pitch? What physical characteristics are important in this instrument?

You're changing the pitch of the instrument by using a thicker string.

3. What materials will you actually be using for your instrument and why? How will you play your instrument? What is your plan for constructing the instrument?

Wood, and Guitar Strings, maybe some sort of pegs (Most likely some sort of pegs to keep the strings on)

4. What outstanding questions do you still have?

--How is it played? What does the person have to do to produce sound?

To play a guitar you pluck or strum the strings.

--How do you change a note? (you might have to watch very carefully to see this)

You can change the note by putting your finger on a fret or using a different string.

--How is it shaped?

It's shaped like an Hour Glass.

--What does this make you think about how you can create and change sound?

I feel as if the shape effects the way the vibrations travel, also the amount of space inside affects how loud the instrument is.

--What connections (if any) do you think you can draw between what you are observing and you might already know about waves?
