I decided to put my own twist on the internet sculpture project. Instead of doing the common clay recreation, I wanted to do something different. I found a photo of a lego mindstorm robot called, "Alpha Rex." I already had the lego mindstorm kit that my mother bought me years ago. So i recreated my own version with the parts that I had and there you have it.

Clear Object

​I had some trouble with the clear object drawing. It didn't really understand how to "shade" and make the object more 3D like. I started with covering the entire paper with the black charcoal and then faded the color to a lighter grey by taking a paper towel and lightly brushing the canvas. Next I proceeded to draw the outer edges of the vase. I tried my best to shade the picture to make it "pop" a little more, but I don't think I did a good enough job.


Copy A Master

I saw the picture on google images and it immediately caught my attention. I always had a fascination with outer space and when I was little I used to go to the library to read books about the behemoth objects that filled our outer atmosphere. I started with drawing lightly the outer shapes of the planets which I would later fill in with colors. With the help of my friends Shi and Toni, I was able to make recreate the image to the best of my abilities.

​A musical sound is called a tone, and is produced by air vibrating a certain number of times per second. These vibrations are called waves.The number of times that a sound wave vibrates in a second is called its frequency and is measured in Hertz.  High notes have a higher frequency than lower notes and this changes their shape.

When a xylophone it hits it vibrates and displaces the air molecules. There is a very transfer of energy as the xylophone switches from potential to kinetic energy. When sound waves collide they either bounce(reflect) or bend(refract). To change the pitch of a xylophone you change the size and density of the bars(keys). 

I plan to make my xylophone out of copper or pvc pipe. Which ever produces the better sound and can be sustained. I will play my instrument like everyone else does with this type of instrument; a mallet. 

The instrument I want to play is a xylophone. This instrument originated in Africa. The xylophone belongs in the percussion family and consists of either wooden or metallic bars of different lengths. These bars are then adhered or tied down to a base that gives enough space to allow the bars to vibrate. These bars are struck by a mallet that can be made out of plastic, wood, or even rubber. This is what gives the instrument its sound because when struck the bar vibrates.

The general shape of a xylophone is a rectangle. To change the not of a xylophone, you have to hit a different note on the xylophone with a mallet. You can alter the sound by altering the density of the individual notes. I've noticed that different dimensions of bars give off different sound. What went well?

Our group was really easy to work with. Everyone was ready to take on the task. Everyone carried there weight.

What didn't go well?

​We had to start the project over because we didn't have the requirements for the infographic. I mean all the information I found is useful, but the we had to focus more on the government aspect and the aftermath. 

What would you do differently next time?

I would reread what the assignment again. My group went off track with what the Ms. Laufenburg asked of us. I would be more visual because I don't think we followed the directions still even though we started.

We chose Woman In Combat because we felt that woman often go unrecognized. Its a man orientated military system and we wanted to show the courages lives of women in combat. We wanted to represent that in a video/documentary because it would of been uninteresting if done with a podcast. We made a 5 minute video to show women and combat, because we didn't want to make it too long. The only problem we had was compiling all the information. We didn't know where to get some primary sources from. The thing that went well is the video. It was easy putting the video together once we had the information. The things I would do differently is the way we conducted data. I would have liked to find an actual women who served in the military. If we were to redo it that would be one of the first things I would do. I've learned that women had major impacts in the military. Women in armed forces are women too, and have lives that don't just restrict them into a certain category.
