Natikwa - Sharpie

Posted by Natikwa Goodwin in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2:11 pm
The product my ad is promoting is Sharpie writing utensils. The message that is given is "Make It Loud". This message means that you can turn a simple something into something loud, vibrant, and fun. My intended audience in this ad is students, and artists. In my ad I incorporate a student that is doing work, that isn't interested in it. I chose students as my target audience because I know a lot of them can relate. I also intended this ad to be for artists because I use simple utensils to make a art piece, which I know would attract artist. If I was to complete this project again I would have made a more detailed piece of artwork using the sharpies.

Natikwa Goodwin Quarter 1 Benchmark

Posted by Natikwa Goodwin in Science and Society - Best on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 8:14 am
Pancakes Ingredients

1 cup (130 grams) all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar

1 large egg

1 cup of milk

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

First you gather all your ingredients and proper utensils

Using a large bowl you first place the flour in it, following with the baking powder, salt, sugar, eggs, milk, and butter.

You then mix all the ingredients for about 10 minutes or until all the ingredients are mixed well.

Then you must place a large frying pan on the stove with the burner at about medium-high heat.

Then pour a spoon full of grease into the pan.

Pour the mix into the pan making circular motions.

Let the pancakes cook until the edges begin to turn light brown.

Flip the pancakes

Let the other side cook all the way through.

Their done :)

The pancakes I made are 100% processed. All the ingredients included in my recipe are not homemade. They all come from across the country and are grown differently individually before they make it to my kitchen. In each serving the recipe creates about 4 nice sized pancakes. After being prepared there are roughly about 250 calories in these pancakes. There is also about 2g of fat after the pancakes are prepared. The ingredients in the pancakes are not harmful to the body, and aren't hard to process. Wheat is a cereal grain that is grown throughout the entire world. Baking powder is also listen in my ingredients also known as by the chemical formula NaHCO3. Common table salt is used in the ingredients, which is known as NaCl. After buying all the ingredients to this meal the costs comes out to be no more than $20. This meal ends up being much more than it would cost to purchase pancakes from a fast food restaurant such as McDonalds or Burgerking. McDonalds pancakes have about 400 calories, which is almost double the amount as the ones that I made. The people that made the most off of my meal would be the market, and the different farms that the products migrated from. The milk that is used in my ingredients came from a cow. That cow most likely lives on a farm, and grew up on different estrogen and hormone medicines. If I was to care for my own cow the milk would be much safer to drink. It would have much less ingredients I’ve never heard of, and won’t be as harmful. Just like cows, chickens also grow up o farms taking different steroids to make them much larger and to get more out of one. Eggs that come from chickens are greatly effected by the different hormones that are given to the chickens during their lifespan. If I was to grow my own chicken, the eggs produced would be much less harmful being as though it doesn’t have as many artificial hormones added.

Personal Reflection

I have come to learn a lot during the 1st quarter of my science and society class. During this quarter we learned value information that can help our every day lives. In this class we discussed way to better ourselves, and our bodies. We learned different ways of how to stay healthy and how to stay fit. During the 1st quarter of this class we learned about food, nutrition, and healthy eating.

It is always important to know and understand what you are putting in your body. Everything is not always good for you. From this class we studied different types of common foods that we all eat on a daily basis. We took these different foods learned how they are prepared before they get to our plates. We watched a movie that went through the entire process of chicken is prepared before it gets to our plates. This movie puts what you eat into a different perspective.

From this class I now question a lot of more of what I eat. I learned that everything is always good for you, even some things cooked at home. I've learned the true differences between organic and regular foods. We went over the pro's and con's of organic food, and does it actually make a difference. Prices of foods can also vary depending on what types of food you are buying, we went over how healthier eating also means much more expensive.

I learned a lot in this class during this quarter, from watching chickens brutally get slaughtered for the welfare of human beings, to learning about the Western Diet which includes everything I love to eat. This class taught a lot.

Pocahontas

For my project I did the truths of Pocahontas. I did research regarding the real story of her. I took the information I learned and I compared it to the information given in the movie of Pocahontas. I used the information and created a truth or false, a,b, or c game.

Sound is produced from a percussion instrument by hitting the instrument and vibrations come out. You change the pitch of the instrument, by hitting the instrument in different places. The physical characteristics of my instrument that are necessary is making sure the pipes are alligned in the right form. For my instrument the materials I will by using are, wood, copper pipe, and nails. I will need these to create my instrument. To make my instrument I will cut the copper pipe, in different lengths and along them together.

The instrument I am interested in playing is a percussion instrument, the xylophone. The xylophone is played using a mallet. Using the mallet, you hit the different pipes along the xylophone. You change the sound of the xylophone, by placing hitting on the different parts arranged along the xylophone. By placing the mallet on different pipes, the note is changed. The xylophone is many pipes alligned next to each other.

My 3 Photos.

For this project we were to take 3 simple photos and photoshop them. For all the pictures I edited I basically added a blue & pink type of gradient and dimmed it down. I also added lens flare, and different filters to each.

Dark Rose - Natikwa Goodwin

Posted by Natikwa Goodwin in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 12:52 pm
For this second quarter for the benchmark the assignment was to create anything you wanted. In order to create this project we had to use the past information we already learned in art.
The artwork I created was a rose. To create this project, first I made a few sketches of rose. Then I finally picked the rose I felt like was the best. From that I drew that rose on a bigger piece of paper. Then I flipped the paper over and colored the back with black chalk. After I colored the back I laid the paper on a hard stock paper. After that I traced put the top of the paper, and the back of the paper face to face. I then, traced the rose onto the paper. After the rose was traced, I painted the outside of rose black. I also painted the inside of the rose red.
I decided  to make a rose because I felt because I have a liking for roses. My grandmothers name is Rose so I always loved them.

Natikwa Goodwin - Art Project .

Posted by Natikwa Goodwin in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 12:07 pm
In my advanced art class the assignment was to create a piece of artwork out of used materials. The idea of the assignment was to use household items or things that can be found around you and make them into art.

For my assignment I used old t-shirts, needle & thread, and pillow stuffing. For my project I made home made pillows. I first took the old t-shirts and washed them. After that, turned the t-shirts inside out and sewed the bottom. After sexing the bottom i sewed the two sleeves together. Then, I turned the shirt right side out and started to place the pillow stuffing inside the t-shirt. Finally, I sewed the top of the t-shirt together and I had a new made/ home made pillow.

This assignment was good because it used items that had no more use. Instead of things going to waste, reusing them is always a good option. The regular things that would have been thrown into the garbage and adding pollution to the world is now less then it would have been.
