Amanda Cartagena- Capstone

Throughout my four years at SLA I've learned a lot about diversity. SLA is a great example for a diverse community. The students and faculty at SLA come from many different backgrounds and still manage to come together and share the same building as a whole. For my capstone, my partner and I had decided that we wanted to give SLA something that reflected our diverse community. In result we painted a huge mural on the 2nd floor ballroom. This colorful painting basically reflects the meaning of diversity.

This source contains a mural which was done by a famous artist by the name of Dasic Fernandez in Detroit. His mural is a symbol of diversity. He had decided to paint this mural because he felt as though Michigan was one of the most diverse cities since it was home to many immigrants from around the world.

This source withholds a very inspiring blog. This blog has paintings that are quite similar to the murals that my partner and I have in mind. The paintings contain different colors blending in together. The blending of these colors helps bring out the paintings and allow the deeper meanings of the paintings to show.

This source contains an article that talks about diversity spreading throughout the communities in the United States. This data is based off of Census data done by Penn State’s research institute. This article talks about the pros that diversity is bringing to communities, and the great benefits that it brings.
