Above the Influence - Alissa DiBartolomeo

Posted by Alissa DiBartolomeo in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 10:41 am
My product is an Above the Influence print ad. My message is to hopefully effect teens into not doing drugs because of the consequences it can have on your life. My intended audience is teens but I hope to also reach out to adults as well. I feel that everyone can see how drugs effect your life. The way I'm reaching out to teens I feel like it is a more effective way because all other ads and commercials all show you what could happen and not really show any proof of what does happen. I feel like if people would see what actually happens and how it could effect your life it will stop some teens about thinking of doing drugs. If I were to do this project again I would make a commercial and have someone actually doing a drug to show the before and after effect better.

The Atomic Bomb - Moral Debate

Reflection:

I liked creating new primary sources about my POD. The most challenging thing would have to be finding information that would result because of my POD. I feel as the historical record is affected by the individuals because they made their decisions, not anyone else. If systemic changes didn’t happen, the historical record wouldn’t be so bad. The decisions in the historical record were influential because once one person made a bad choice another did. It terribly ruined the history. History shouldn’t have to be about people being murdered and wars. I think that the project could be improved if we had a bigger time limit and more class time because it gives everyone a chance to exceed expectations by making more primary sources to our event. If I did this project over, I would look at when it was due because I didn't pay attention to the due date and had to rush to get everything done on time. Overall, I really think this project was a great idea for a benchmark.

Musical Instrument - Blog post #2

Posted by Alissa DiBartolomeo in Physics - Echols on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 7:10 pm
When you stroke the bow across the string it vibrates and causes the violin to make sound. When you play a different string it changes the pitch. When you also place your fingers on different spots on the string you wish to change the pitch on, it changes the note, which also changes the pitch. I think I am going to use wood but I am not sure yet. I will play my instrument using a bow. My plan is to just take my time and not to rush so I don't mess up building it. My outstanding questions are is there any material that we can't use?

For the project, I am making a violin. I have a 6 - year experience playing the violin so I know a lot about it. The violin is played when a person uses the bow, the bow strikes against the violin and produces notes. A person can either pluck strings or use the bow to get sound out of the violin.
To change a note on the violin you press down on the strings in a specific place, almost like a guitar. A violin is shaped like a mini guitar.

To create and change sound, I would press my fingers against a part of the violin to see what sound comes out. I think that when you make the bow go against the violin, the string that you strike vibrates and sends sound waves out the violin.

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

Posted by Alissa DiBartolomeo in American History - Laufenberg on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 12:27 pm

Refection: This project was really cool to learn about because I didn't know there was a oil spill in the 1989. I learned a lot about what happened and would love to learn more. I like reading about animals so I was really interested in the project. Even though my group had to do it over 3 times, we never stopped working.

Reflection on this Benchmark:

At first looking at this benchmark outline, I was going to do Hitler as my topic, but I couldn't really get the theme out when doing and researching him. I went to go talk to miss Laufenberg and she gave me this topic because in class when we spoke of the Atomic Bomb I was really interested in it.
After deciding on The Atomic Bomb I looked at the choices I had to do this project, when I seen live performance immediately wanted to do that. But when I thought about it i realized that it would be really hard to reenact The Atomic Bomb because I really can't make a bomb fall. After I realized that I looked at the other choices and saw website. I started to try and see what I could do if i made the website before I picked it. After realizing that I could do that I picked it. Since I wasn't going to perform my NHD project, instead of making a whole website I choose to do an iWeb for my benchmark.
The most trouble this project gave me was finding primary sources, secondary was easy. Finding websites and videos taken from the exact same time the Atomic Bomb was really hard to find. I went to all different websites looking to see if the information was taken at the same time as the topic. After I found a couple I went looking for pictures and videos. The pictures were really hard to find because before I used them I had to make sure they were from the same day. I was thinking just because they were black and white that it was from the same date. But it wasn't. Looking for primary sources had to be the hardest part of this project.
The things that went well were the information. Putting the information together was the easiest part of this project. Usually putting information into a project is the hardest part. But there was so much information that I was so easy. All I really had to do was but it all together and write the report.
If I did this project over I would take my time picking the topic and see if the information would go good with the theme before deciding the topic. Not taking my time blew so much time again that I could have used to help me look for primary sources. Because of the picking the topic in such a hurry, I lost valuable time doing this benchmark. I feel like if I can do this project over, take back the time that I lost, my project would me 10 times better. Not that it isn't good, but the primary sources would be.
After doing this project I learned so much information about the Atomic Bomb -Moral Debate. I learned why it happened, what it effected, and what was the damage that it caused. Doing this project I am really proud of my outcome project because I really think I took enough time to research about the topic and I gathered a bunch of information on this topic.
