Capstone Bibliography - Google Docs

Abstract: My mission for my capstone was to create a historical artifact about, what can be agreed upon as, the most historical 4 years of SLA. I want to create something that future students and possible prospects could use to get insight and understand the core of Science Leadership Academy; while making something we all can look back at. This website is a mix of stories, poetry, narratives, and reflections from the people at SLA.

Printmaking Final Project

My element is nitrogen which has the atomic number of 7. Nitrogen is an odorless and colorless unreactive gas that forms about 78 percent of the earth's atmosphere. It also makes up 3% of the human body. I got my idea of imagery for this element because when researching  I found out that nitrogen was first suggested to be called azote; and though it's not what we call it in english some languages do translate azote as nitrogen.
When making my prints I went through a lot of steps that had to be executed in a specific manner. First I had to sketch out my idea, but also make sure that I wasn't using any straight lines except for the numbers and little symbols. Then I went on to outlining my sketch on tracing paper which was pretty easy and after doing that I proceeded to retrace the outline onto the styrofoam sheet. This step was slightly difficult because since I chose a word to represent my element I had to retrace the word backwards. After all the tracing was done that's when the printing actually began. Printing, for this project, was rolling a thick layer of paint onto the styrofoam trace so that once it was placed and smoothed out on a piece of white paper the color would distinguish the positive and negative space.
If I were to do this project again I would change my design and try something different/more unique. Though this is true, my favorite part of this project was painting because I've never been able to work with paint in my own creative way. It also added an element of fun to a project that takes a lot of our grade.

NEGATIVE SPACE CUT OUT REFLECTION

Negative space is the empty space around the subject being drawn. I found the negative space in my art piece by realizing that the bird could be the same when flipped after cutting it out the first time. It helps artist to see in negative space because not only does it show skill in what you can see, it also balances and enhances the positive space. Seeing in negative space enhances drawings because it gives you two points of view/perspectives on a drawings. This is important because every piece of art has a story and seeing both the negative and positive is like seeing both sides of the same story.

1-Slide Project Remix

Posted by Ami Doumbia on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:58 pm
Untitled presentation

After being critiqued by my classmates I realized that I needed to change the way I got people’s attention, the font of my text, my slides cohesivity, the eye appeal of the slide, and most importantly the background. I also learned that even though my slide was bad I had a good idea and was headed in the right direction.

First I changed all the font to times new roman so that it was more cohesive. Then I added the word effect so that my slide had a good amount of eye appeal. Next I centered and sized all the words so that people’s attention would go to the right places. Last I changed the background because the original one wasn’t going to give me a good product no matter what I changed and that’s how I got my final product.

The research I did helped me create a better slide because of its broadness. It showed me that in order for my project to succeed I needed to stop being so picky and specific, and start having an open mind; because with an open mind there were thousands of possibilities, hence my new background. Finally, most of the sources I used were sources Ms. Hull gave us and information from prior experiences. These being classmates, links/websites, teachers, and of course Ms. Hull.

1-Slide Project

1 Slide Presentation
Right off the bat, I want to start by explaining the foundation of my slide, then the reason why I chose what I chose, and last the reasoning of why I put each specific thing on my slide.
First the foundation. So when making the foundation I thought about color and theme, which is something we learn about through the articles. One thing that they said that stuck with me was when one of the articles said pick a color/theme with a lot of contrasts because it will help your slide with flexibility, text, and objects. That’s why my foundation was a color many people know, love and that goes with everything. Black. But right after I chose the pure black background I started thinking about how when I put words or a picture on top of it that would immediately become/ be seen as my theme. So I thought what could I add to it in order to get my point across…… EVERY COLOR. That’s when I decided that a rainbow was best. That’s when I started brainstorming what to put down on the slide. And after getting some ideas from other classmates, I thought why not put a quote, but from myself. Finally when I got it I started questioning what color I was gonna make it. After trying a lot of colors I finally figured out that a bolded black was the best way to go. This is because unlike using all the other colors putting black on rainbow creates more balance within that color scheme and the slide. Then lastly the white was just to add one more pop of color that I felt went well with the colors but also complimented the black.
Finally getting into what I put down. I put down the quote “My greatest goal in life is to be my unraveled self. It's a life goal because, and I say this as literal as possible, I’m simply complex” I put this down because it literally says everything about me. It shows how instead of trying to jam myself into the words of someone else, I’m the type of person that would find some type of loophole and get what I need to say out there; that being that I cannot be defined in one slide. Plus the statement is also just a fact about me.
