Silicon Art

Posted by Christina Eng in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 12:13 pm
My element is Silicon and the atomic number is 14. Silicon was discovered by a Swedish chemist in 1824, Jons Jacob Berzelius. It is created by the heating chips of potassium in a silica container. Then it is washes away the residual by products. It is the seventh most abundant element in the world. The first thing I thought about when I first heard the word Silicon was breasts implants. First I did the research and thought of a drawing. Then I drew it on the wax paper and then redrew it onto the plastic plate. I made sure that the print is really deep so there is negative and positive space. Finally I put the paint onto the plate and pasted it onto the paper three times. I would just make sure that I did things nice and neat and also I would just make sure that I followed the steps correctly, but I did. I liked putting the print and paint and then pasting it onto the paper. I liked pulling the paper out of the plate and seeing the final picture.

"Final Stamp Design"

Posted by Christina Eng in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 6:40 pm
I chose to do a stamp cut out on my picture because it kind of represents me and my culture. Yin Yang means dark and bright. In the bad, there is a good in it, and in the good, there is bad in it. To me it means that everyone can change either for the good, or for the bad. Everyone is different and has things that they don't want to share out to people because they are afraid that they might be judged by others. The words that I thought of was different and surprise.
At first I was supposed to do a different picture and cut it out, but it was too complicated for me and this one was nice and simple for me to do. The curves of the dripping part was hard for me to cut out because it was small for my razor and it would always move and get caught with each other. Since the Yin Yang is black and white, it was very easy for me to know the negative and positive side to cut out. One side of the Yin Yang is black, and the other side is white. Black would be the negative place for me and white is positive. The other two small circles in them would be white on the black side, and black on the white side.
Negative space is the part that I cut out and the positive space is the empty part where you just leave it alone. It was easy and simple for me to do it and I would only get stuck when I was cutting the small little drops. Since the positive side had space and there it blended into the paper, I cut out green to bold the sides to show that it's there. Since I didn't have glue to paste on the green bold part, I had to use super glue because that was the only glue that I had (it's why there's small dots on the green line sorry guys). Negative and positive space is easy for me to learn because I've already learned how to do it when I was younger back in my old school.

Negative Space Cut Out

Posted by Christina Eng in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:27 am
What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)

  • Negative space is something to do with art. It is the space behind or the background of an image or a object.

Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?

  • The negative space in my cut out was the darker part of the picture and it was also the background too.

Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

  • Yes it helps an artist to see the negative space because it is the background and the the darkest part of the image in it.

Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

  • Yes negative space enhances the drawings because it brings out the main picture or the object or item. It puts that object at the center of attention when it needs to be.

MP1 Art Blog and Artist's Statement

Relief printing is different from other forms of printmaking. Relief printing is when the surface is sticking out of the block or plate is inked. Printmaking is then the pictures are made by printing it from plates or blocks. Intaglio is when the design is engraved into a material. The invention of printmaking was revolutionary. There is different processes for printmaking.

Artists are finding and using new techniques of printmaking. Graffiti is also a form of printmaking. Printmaking is a basically moving a picture onto a paper, stone, or wood. There are many ways for printmaking that artists use for their pictures. Printmaking is important because it's an easier way to many many copies of a picture. If we didn't have printmaking, it would take a long time to making another picture or something and it would also be hard to do it too.

I liked this picture and chose it because the colors of the black and the pinkish red stood out to me. I notice that both the color has a nice mix to it and blends together. It is also a dark and a light color and it matches very well with each other. I wonder if they added another light color to it would it bring out the picture more or not. What if they added all the colors onto the painting and overlapping it on top of each other?

Media Fluency

  • What you learned
- I learned that I have to make sure that my letter and words stand out so people can read it. Also, I need to make the picture to not touch the side of the slide.

  • Why you made the changes you did to your second slide
- I made sure people could see the words that I typed, so I highlighted it with a bright different color to show them.

  • How important research is when beginning a project
-It's important because you need to make sure that you have most of the things and tips that they give you.

Media Fluency

I choose the texture of title to be large, pixelated, and blocky like because it reminds me of videogames which I like to play on my free time. Also, where it says my name "by Christina" in small cursive, I choose that font because of how smooth it was without barely any sharp edges. The balance of the text was equal because it was put into the center. The color that I choose for the slide is a mixture of dark and bright to make things pop out and make sure that there is a mixture of both dark and light colors. The form of some of my pictures that I choose is somewhat 3D and pops out to me and some were just in a regular 2D shape. I made sure that every space is filled with a picture that could fit or a text that I needed. I made a mix of gradation with light and dark and small and large. The variety of colors I combined was a dark background and then I placed light images on top of my background and a few dark pictures of my liking.

My Home Network

Posted by Christina Eng in Technology - Freshman · Hull · c1 Band on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 9:10 am
Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network -

-All my L.A.N. are - 4 laptops, 2 TVs, 4 phones, 1 IPad, and 1 Play Station 3.

Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? If now write about what you learned.

-I kind of knew what was what because my sister tries to help me out and explain the things that I don’t know, but other then that nothing much really.

What would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?

-I would tell other people that they need to know where everything is and what is connected to what. Also how many devices they have in their home.
