American Government Q2 BM and Reflection

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1VtK1ylEjd_hgvoNlno95yfwmsOL-ttjN_y4Zvg_p7GI

I didn't actually have any particular reason for examining the 12 identified laws, cases or offices
I just picked the ones that i found to be of interest to me and then found a ways to relate them to my life.
The laws I choose were all interested because after evaluating which ones pertained to my life I learned a great
deal about how laws made even before I was born have a positive or negative impact on my life till today.
Some laws, casing or offices I noticed if wouldn't have occurred would have affected my life negatively. Other bills
and laws made more recently have been affecting my life for years and now it just being brought to the surface.

This process was fairly easy the hardest thing was finding laws that pertained to my life either negativity or positivity.
I think resources should have been discussed more in deep because finding laws and bill and offices was extremely hard.
Overall the process was very interesting and easy.

I anticipate my life becoming more difficult as I become older. Laws are evolving as well
as time is and laws are becoming more redundant.

Lobbying Assignment #5 - Finalize

Posted by David Buckholtz in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 5:07 pm
Lobbying Assignment #5 - Finalize

For my final lobbying assignment I took the time to attempt at establishing communication between State Rep Ronald Waters and myself. I received the same response as before to where my request was being processed and because if the extensive amounts of emails to Mr. Waters delay was to be expected and it would take time from his office to reply on the emails. My first attempt was within either Lobbying assignment #3 or #4. Hopefully this attempt will close a line of communication between Mr. Waters and myself.

Within the following two days time span of me sending an email to Rep. Waters communication directly with Mr. Waters office in Harrisburg and Philadelphia was also attempted.

A message was left with one of his telephone office officials and other means of communication is underway.

My progress will be updated on establishing a clear line of communication.

After trying to establish a clear line of communication to someone in the Philadelphia field office of State Rep. Waters little to no progress has been made on their part. I called multiple times and due to high volumes of phone calls and emails I was placed on a list of those who will be contacted In the order at which they where received.

IN my first email i restated my objective and its purpose and once i called his office i stated briefly what my objective and purpose was again. I sent two emails and called his office twice with messages that followed after my failing attempts.

If the office of State Rep. Ronald Waters attempts to contact me I will comply with my elegant contentions and discuses my lobbying issue in hope for change.

Reflection of Project

Posted by David Buckholtz in American Government - Laufenberg on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 12:41 pm
  • Amira Young and myself chose to do our bureaucratic project based off completing the proper paper work to file for a divorce. Our process was very overweleming and helped us to realize that filing for a divorce was extremely difficult and time consuming. The process for filing for a divorce was interesting being as though we learned that most of the process and proper steps we needed to enact was for the good of both parties and any children intertwined. The paper work was the most easiest part maybe because we're just playing but its was hard because i never understood why this process entitled that much effort. Doing the project helped and unlocked answers based on this task. The process of entirely needed because it prevents problems between two parties who might be sore towards each other. Process is the way it is only because its built off of progress and actually works.

Lobbying Assignment #4 - Communicate with your representative

Detail your plan for communicating and report in on the steps you conducted, reflect on the process, effectiveness, etc.

I planned to communicate with my state rep and then I had to honor of meeting him through my church. State Rep Ronald Waters was highly interested in my plan and asked me to draft a doc to explain the details I wanted to focus on for my lobbying assignment.

Attached are screen shoots of a e-mail I've sent Mr. Waters and I am a waiting a response from him momentarily. Mr. Waters expressed interest in helping a young man of my stature and hopefully including multiple other state reps and senators in my lobbing assignment to contest to my change.

Lobbying Assignment #3

Posted by David Buckholtz in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 9:24 pm

1. What is the status of your issue at the legislature? Is this a "good" year?

Yes, so far this is a great year for my issue and its been given a lot of attention in Philadelphia but still theres work to be done. Recently the city has expanded its unit of Big Belly Trash compacters to the west philadelphia region, from what i hear its moving even further expending fast from the downtown area further out.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64P46G20100526

How many elected officials have indicated support for your issue?

Quite a few have indicated a positive response on my issues it seems that my issues is saving the city a lot of money in this time of budget cuts. One elected official who is soon to be in office and is highly contributing to the big belly system was a Non-Elected official named Alicia we recently spoke when she came to my church and has a high interest in helping me get this system lunched all over the city. We are in constant contact and since I have talked to her she has helped me place two new systems in the west Philadelphia area.

Is there public support behind it, with good media attention?

No not really it hasn’t been good media attention towards my topic since its been first reveled but I’m hoping to change that once I make a significant impact in the community by helping add more units to the city increasing the amount of city money saved every year.

http://smartbuildingtalk.com/2010/06/greenworks-progress-report/

Who are your opponents, and how much power do they have?

None really. Because this system doesn’t take away jobs from hard working citizens it just basically makes their work load easier while helping the city budget over some time.

Has a policy been written to address your issue, or do you need to work with an elected official to write one?

I need to work with a Elected Official to write one.

2. Who is essential to the outcome?

Who are the allies you need to have on board because they increase the power you have to move the issue?

I need to have someone with the determination to actually see this get into play heavily and actually stay in place with hopes and dreams of seeing this positively affect the environment of the entire region. Names of specific people are those such as the two I listed in my last blog and helpfully my long term friend Alicia of the State Senate Department. I also have some contacts through the Franklin Institute who are very close affiants of some politicians. And  the school District of Philadelphia who I’m sure would be very fine supporters of this issue being attacked by one of there students.

Which decision-makers do you need to move (committee chairs, legislation sponsors, etc)?

I need to move the Committee Chairs at The Franklin Institute to gain there interest in this project being an environmental friendly organization and major form of entertainment in the city they could conductively promote and help this issues go into effect.

3. Who else is working on this? Can you coordinate?

Yes, A few state reps are working on this issue as listed in my old blog

4. Who can you influence?

I could influence those who live in heavily trash populated communities and those who have seen the effects of the Big Belly system once put into place to help contribute to this issue.

http://www.motherearthnews.com/healthy-people-healthy-planet/bigbelly.aspx

5. What is the time frame?

There is no time frame for the issue being put into place because its already in the process of being put into place and there is great progress at a steady but very slow rate im hoping to speed that up.

6. When are key dates - meetings, committee hearings, deadlines, etc.

Some dates which are clear in my head are town hall meeting at the school district building and the board meetings at the Franklin institute. I would have to look further into some more effective dates at city hall for town hall meeting about this issue.

American Government Voting Day Project

Posted by David Buckholtz in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 8:10 pm
I interviewed John Holland a 48 year old man from philadelphia. He voted in west philadelphia on lancaster ave. and he was one of the people helping on election day.

He took time out of his day while still helping the election process to do his interview with me.

He can be seen in some of my photographs, he is the african american man seen sitting at the table.
