My artwork was about the gambling McMurphy had done and what it meant for the people there. In the artwork, there are a few different items that I felt had some sort of representation or a direct meaning in what would happen in their own life.

The first thing that I tried to do was make sure it looked like you were the one sitting at the table as if you were a person in the ward who was falling to McMurphy’s pressure and losing your money. We see this in the quote “My name’s McMurphy and I’m a gambling fool…I lace my money down “. This shows just how much his identity revolved around gambling and conning people out of their own money.

One of the other key parts of the book that I tried to fit in was the items on the table and how much they meant to all of the people inside the ward. The cigarettes themselves were based on how McMurphy after getting all of their own money would go into them gambling their cigarettes then after winning them all he would get their “IOUs’ ‘. There is also the whole pack on the table to the right then fewer and fewer cigarettes as you go farther to the left showing just how much the group at the table was being taken advantage of from having full packs to nothing at the end. The cards themselves are in pairs just as a traditional hand of blackjack would be if you did not gain another card. There are also no purposeful face cards to show how much he “cheated them out of their money. They were all friendly with him as they paid their bets” The coinage on the table is very spare and is also a way to portray just how much he is taking advantage of his scenario and how that is leading him into contention with the big nurse.

The lighting that I used was supposed to show that McMurphy was helping people out of the fog. You can see that on the dice and how there is one portion of the dice that is shining through and the rest is just as damp as the surrounding areas. This also shows how much of an issue that can become. This is why the right source is showing on the dice a symbol used for gambling and luck opposed to something more normal like a bulb or an ordinary object.

In conclusion, the reason that I made my art was to show just how diverse of a cast McMurphy’s act of gambling can be on the people of the ward. It shows that even if he is doing something that some people can see as a more positive thing like bringing people out of the “fog” it still leaves huge unanswered questions and issues with the morality of what he is doing and how he will accomplish it. The means may not be the way to the end with McMurphy and Chief.

The artwork that I made is about when Offred and Ofglen visit the wall. I tried to combine both of the times they were there. The first time, Offer had oranges you could put inside her basket not being the primary point of attention but still there regardless just to remind you of their previous visit. I tried to make the artwork look like it is in the first person as if you were Offered seeing the dead person that you may or may not have known in your former life. What you can also see is a “J” on the person on the wall because in Handmaid’s Tale it says, “The body is marketed only with a J in red. It doesn’t mean Jewish.” I also believe that the first-person point of view allows you to feel like anyone can be on the wall and that it is just dumb luck that you are not up there as opposed to someone else. That line was the reason that I decided to make the artwork in the first place. When Offred told the reader that the J was not about Jews you can infer the lines of cruelty that Gilead has. There are many groups outside and inside of the umbrella of Christianity that you can’t pick one group and probably all of those groups have an equal chance to be stung up on the wall and killed. Also just how nonchalant the narrator describes how she knows what the symbols on the dead body mean is a reminder of just how bloodsoaked the society is. Another part of the work is that the sun is initially redder than the normal sun. I did this trying to show how much more bloody Gilead is than our normal day-to-day is. The sheet itself while not being fully accurate to how the people were in clothing while they were hung looks more like a ghost and of course, ghosts are dead just like the people on the wall. The reason this sense is important is that it shows how the people who were killed are not just some one-time occurrence and is in fact a common theme that happens many times in this society. This leads to the very calm attitude that is shown throughout the book about people being killed or kidnapped and just how calm and unresponsive society is to all of the necessary violence. In conclusion, the artwork is overall about how the society is bloody and that the people in the society are becoming more and more used to how the government is acting. The oranges are a rarity and are increasingly rare because of restrictions on the red light to the bloody attitude of the government. You are in the first person to put you in the frame of how Offred is and how that could affect you. Finally the J an unrepresented letter to show the cruelty of the government. This is what the piece is trying to get across to the viewer.

In the first chapter, Margaret Atwood says “ in their red shoes, flat-heeled to save the spine and not for dancing. The red gloves are lying on the bed. I pick them up, and pull them onto my hands, finger by finger. Everything except the wings around my face is red: the color of blood, which defines us.” While the book may seem disconnected from the real world there are many explanations of similar dress codes being used in the real world. The most famous example of this may be the Taliban however I think that a more prudent expansion would be the country of Iran. In Iran, the dress code is for “women to have their legs covered down until the ankles and wear loose tunics or coats that cover their lower waist and have long sleeves.” While the dress code is not as severe as it once was under other dictatorships the potential result could be for you to end up to 10 years in prison. The idea of a region-wide dress code is not unique to Iran. It is very common in religion to have a section on how you should dress and what you can wear. This is going to be more common in theories where the state is a religion. Just like Gilead, the government of Iran uses religion to institute the dress code in their society. All three of the main Abrahamic religions have some sort of verse about how to dress conservatively and be okay in the eyes of god. For example, in Christianity, the bible says “… also that the women should dress themselves in moderate clothing with reverence and self-control, not with their hair braided or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes …” In a movie that looks just like the bible the Quran says “Revering God is the most important guideline for women when they choose their dress. The righteous reverent woman will know that God is always watching her, she will therefore dress modestly and in line with God’s requirements for decency and morality.” This idea of the need to portray a form of humbleness and sanction through dressing is taken to a new extreme in The Handmaid’s Tale. There are not just restrictions on the people’s dress but as stated they have their own “uniforms”. You can tell it is not just with the lowly handmaids but also with the Aunts who were in a brown uniform and the blue wives. It also makes the appearance of knowing what role you have in society. One of the clearest examples of this is when Atwood says “Frowning, she tears out three tokens and hands them to me. Her face might be kind if she would smile. But the frown isn’t personal: it’s the red dress she disapproves of, and what it stands for. She thinks I may be catching a disease or any form of bad luck.” The conflict in that shows the roles of the society and just how low certain women go. Another thing that Iran and Gilad have in common with the dress code is just how important the code is for a revolution. We know that there were ordinary protests that got shot at. This can also be compared to the recent protests that happened when Mahsa Amini was killed by the Iran secret police. What happened was a large-scale protest that was crushed after a decent amount of time. We can infer that a similar thing did happen in the early days of the revolution where the protesters were shot at and killed. The dress code was a huge element in the Iran protests with women burning their hijabs. We did not hear things like this in Gilead but we do see in the brothel that people see it as a way to rebel. What we can see is that in the end what people were has a large dictation of how society reacts to them. In the maiden’s tale, it seems as a system of repression and It helps the government fit the people into their class roles. While in Iran it is a religious belief it still leads to the untutored role of oppression in the society. This type of operation will hurt people overall and allow us to have a large correlation between societies. While one is fiction the the other is fact it still leads us to have to have to be careful where we go through our government.

In my last post, I talked about how anti-Semitism and give a brief description of what is it and how it affects me personally. This was supported by charts of the ADL and other pictures showing it happening. First Post In my ongoing research, some things have been done are done to raise awareness of your issue. Some of them include the ADL becoming more and more public and going into places where more and more people see them and hear their voices. Another example is that antisemitic acts have been getting reported on more and more by mainstream new companies. This is the ADL’s website This site that I am talking about has some of the most accurate data on my topic and much more. My opinion on the way that is improving this scenario is all great. The only problem with these methods is that they are slow. Some ways to fix this is to stop forcing on the collective people but to focus on the singular person to show that Jews and other people are more alike than other people think. This is a new source The source that I have listed is state.gov they are a part of the government and know what they are doing. For my agent of change project, I chose to make a video explaining all I know about anti-Semitism. This is from biblical times to the 1940s to now. I chose to do this project because for one, as the internet becomes more and more examples to people this will be the main way that people look for their brand new information. I chose a youtube video because it is one of the most popular video streaming services and is built into a lot of platforms. My experience doing this was a mix of highs and lows. By far the highs were writing the script. This was fun to do because I had very few rules to hold it in place. Some of the low was waiting for my video to download. (It took over an hour.) And actually posting it on youtube. Some of the more mediocre parts were picking out the music in the background and the image in front of it. That was both hard to do because I wanted something nice to listen to but not something the would ruin the mood of the video. The image was a pain because I wanted something that was nice to look at and not hurt your eyes at the same time. One of the hardest parts of the scripting process was to not get sidetracked. I found myself writing about martin Luther in one sentence and then had to pivot to a new subject in just a few words. This was very changing, to say the least. Anti Semitism and its effect in America.

Hi, welcome to my project on anti-Semitism in America. My goals for this project is to inform the reader on this topic and shed light on its deep crack in US history. So let’s begin.

If you don’t know what anti-Semitism is it is the act of hating the Jewish race. It was originality made mainstream in the crusades and with Martin Luther’s reforms to Christianity. This issue is a very pressing matter in the USA. It has run deep into our core and shadows many real-world events that are happing right now. For example, black people of this country for a long time could not attend certain colleges and get loans on homes. That same thing was happing to the jews at the exact same time. In fact, if you look around the country you can find some Jewish colleges such as Brandeis University.

For me, this topic hits closer to home because I am in fact Jewish and wish to fight this injustice. Also, I love to research history, this can include euro-centric things like ww2 or how gran Columbia was formed. And thought my research of America it shocked me of how much anti-Semitism there was. I feel like for this reason that if we look into past parts of anti-Semitism we can see how the future can pan out.

My research so far has shown a new light on this situation. For example, when I was doing my teacher I found that in 2018 it had the highest anti-Semitic activity that was reported since 1970. This along with the recent start of the black lives protests show that white supremacists movements are on the rise again.

Even with my research on this project I still wonder many things such as why is it still around today even though there are more facts on how bad this is or how is social media effect the spread? Is it decreasing it or increasing it? One of the things that I wonder the most about is how can we plug this poison that is sleeping out of America’s deepest cracks?

As with many things I still hope to learn more about this situation. As I all ready stated I wish to learn more about the social media aspect of it and I still want to learn more about where It came from. Finally, I would like to know more about how in wartime how did the Americans treat their jews. In the holocaust did the general public not know about it and did nothing accordingly or did they know and threw them to the curbside? Finally, the last question I want to learn about is the immigrating process of the easternmost jews in Russia into America.
