My capstone is about donating to kids in poverty/in need. During my research, I learned about the crisis of poverty in Philadelphia and made a decision to focus on this topic for my project. First, I reached out to many different organizations before choosing Cradles to Crayons, which is a non profit organization that has been around since 2002 and it still running strong. They serve kids birth to age 12 and their families. It was the best fit for my project. They were also well organized and responsive, providing information about items they needed and how to drop them off. Once I selected the organization, I sent out emails to my neighbors, friends and family about donating items. I asked people to drop off their donations at my house, where I had set out a big box. I kept it out for about two weeks. I collected about 50 of each item. I also had to arrange with the manager of Cradles to Crayons to drop off the items at the site, where they had a huge bin outside for all the donations.

I learned a lot from this process and project. I learned that it takes time and effort to finish and accomplish something that others will benefit from, but it is worth doing it. It was clear that the community wanted to help out and that made me feel that I am part of a community were people actually care about what is going on in our city.

IT chapter 2 I chose this movie because I feel like I could connect to it in a way. This movie symbolizes hope in a way. I say this because as most of you know IT is a horror movie. It’s about a group of 7 kids in Derry Maine that have to face their fears of a clown and figure out how they are going to kill it and that does take time. I feel like I could connect to them because it shows how they overcome their fears and obstacles in life. As we know at the end of the movie ( spoiler alert) Mike kills It with the help of a friend. I feel the same way as if all my fear and anxious moments have gone away or have gotten better with a matter of time and friends/family.

Indiana Jones Indiana Jones is a movie about adventure.I feel connected to this movie because it’s all about taking adventurous.Sometimes they have to take a risk during their adventure. My family and friends are very adventurous and so am I.I love to go on adventures. If the adventures I go on involve risks then I take them. I remember one time when my friend’s family and I were hiking in the woods and we went on a path that seemed to be the right way. It turned out to not be an actual path and we were slipping down a muddy hill with barely anywhere to grab onto and water below. That was such a memorable experience and a risky situation to be in. We finally figured out a way to get out of there safely. This mostly always happens in the Indiana Jones movies where they find a safe way to get out of a risky situation and rescue themselves.

Bend it like Beckham I chose this movie because it’s about two ambitious girls that have their hearts set on professional soccer careers. I can relate to this because I am really passionate about soccer. I don’t plan on having a career in soccer in the future. The movie is kind of similar to what happened to me the last two years. This is because I had to get surgery and couldn’t play soccer and I really wanted to. I begged my mom to let me play soccer this year. I was so out of shape that it was going to be hard for me to play from scratch and I was begging my mom to let me play. I wasn’t able to, sadly. I hope that I can keep my passion for soccer in the future, because it’s something that is super important to me and that I don’t want to stop. Just because something stopped me from playing doesn’t mean that I can never play again. It’s just like in the movie how ambitious she is to get a professional career in soccer.

Sing

The first movie/film I chose to talk about was singing, the first movie not the second one. This is an animated movie with animals that sing and perform. The movie focuses on a struggling theater owner who stages a singing competition. He does this to prevent his theater from being closed and shut down. Some of the animals feel like they are not good enough and have anxiety to sing and perform. They finally feel like they can do it and they go on to perform. This is just like me. Sometimes I felt like giving up but I did not. I just kept going until I felt confident. I feel that I could connect to this movie because it is all about singing, also because I understand how the animals feel before performing and how they get anxious. This is because I used to and still perform sometimes. I was in plays and musicals at school and I would get really anxious beforehand that I would start to panic. I know I am less anxious and not afraid to sing in front of people. When you practice over and over

Pitch perfect

I chose pitch perfect because it is also based on singing but mostly acapella and also has a lot of friendship in it. Even though the movie is about acapella I can still connect to it. Friendship to me is everything. It means that I can trust my friends. I even remember when I was younger I used to want to sing in their group because I thought they were really cool and I wanted to be famous. I even tried to sing acapella by myself and it didn’t really work out the best. I still sing but not acapella. The movie shows the difficult times they have and how they still do their acapella performances. I really loved this movie it really motivated me to do stuff and keep doing the stuff I love even being insecure about did not stop me.

Poem

Posted by Lucia Galper in College English · Giknis · B Band on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 3:20 pm

I decided to write a poem about the kid describing how he feels. So it talks about how he is frightened because it’s so dark and quiet but his dad tells him he will be ok and that everything will turn out to be good.

The scene I drew for my lit log is just when the dad and son and dad are watching everything burn and the ashes are falling on them. Maybe when they are talking about everything that is happening and the dad is coughing because he is really sick. I drew the dad and the son and then the black lines are the ashes there is the road at the bottom and I drew some burning trees. This scene can mean a lot because it really shows what the book is about.
