Benchmark - Education

Posted by Lauren Gore in Globalization - Laufenberg on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 1:25 pm
Lauren (The Word)
I have created a newspaper, and it addresses the education issue and talks about charter schools.

  • What did you find most challenging about this project?
    - I found that making a newspaper is harder than it looks, I tried to organize my thoughts on paper. It was hard.
  • How did you go about finding this story?
    - I frequently visit a website called The Daily Censored, it's a blog that is full of under reported stories.
  • Why do you think this story does not receive more attention?
    - Because no one really cares about corrupt government and it doesn't impact them so they do not care. But it directly impacts them people seem to care.
  • Do you think this story will get more attention over the next few months?  Why?  Why not?
    - Probably not, because the american people are lazy and couold care less about what is going on
  • What did you learn?
    - I learned how to make a newspaper and more about the corrupt systems in the United States

Madagascar And Liberia Collapse 'iblity'

Posted by Lauren Gore in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 12:48 pm

The Collapse Possiblities on Prezi

This is my project on the collapse probability of these countries collapsing.

Reflection:
I have selected Madagascar and Liberia. Madagascar is a island of the coast of Africa. LIberia is a costal city around Sierra Leone in Africa.

The process I went through the process of creating a prezi.I picked a format to capture the audience attention and made it colorful.

The 5 point framework was easy, I could easily figure out the countries' standing in them. The only exception was that I had trouble find hostile neighbors for my countries.
I found this benchmark to be easy and fun to do. I like the fact I chose a prezi instead of anything else

World Of 100 Analysis

Posted by Lauren Gore in Globalization - Laufenberg on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 9:03 am
I picked Geography, Age, and Religion

There was only one where I was closer than other. The Age section, I was only off by a couple of number but it was the closest prediction I made. Some of the answer I gave could be inaccurate because of my views, I dont know much about the Asian culture, so I figure I would be off in trying to determine numbers. I also didn't believe their was a lot of christian, but the correct answer saying there are more christain then I predicted, I always thought there was more hindu and buddhist in the world. I also for some reason thought that North American and Asian would be equal...but common sense should have told me that Asian has more

My graphs are done on paper.

Quarter 2 Benchmark

Posted by Lauren Gore in American Government - Laufenberg on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 8:36 pm
This is Lauren second quarter benchmark. To look at it  for now on youtube : click here

will post vimeo video shortly

But my project is basically on the First Amendment and the freedom of speech in schools.
Benchmark Reflection:

  • Why did you choose this topic?
    - I pick this topic because my freedom of speech is important to me. I think everyone should have the right to free speech, no matter where they are. Some people take this to far and say things that shouldn't be said out of moral law.
  • What did you like about this project? What was most challenging?
    -  I enjoyed the part of the project when I asked people question because, it was funny to see what everyone's initial response was, or them trying to figure out how to answer the questions.
  • Describe the most interesting fact or event that you investigated.
    - That's school had the right to say what a student can wear and do, most important with religion. I don't understand how a school can take it upon themselves to restrict a religion.
  • How could this project be improved?
    - The project could have been improved with a little more editing and I realized after publishing that there was no music or anything
  • Where did you run into trouble with the project?
    - A problem for me was that IMovie keep crashing and deleting my videos.
  • What went well with this project?
    - The interviews of people went quite well even, and the timing of Anwar playing the piano in the background on some interviews was perfectly timed
  • If you had it to do over, what would you change about your decisions or your process?
    - I really wouldn't change anything, the project went pretty well,  maybe a little bit more editing, and some way to stop IMovie from crashing every five mins
  • What did you learn?
    - More about my freedom of speech as a student and the rights that a school has, which sometimes are ridiculously outrageous.

Chart- Passport Lauren and Rafiq

Passports
Passports
Reflection:

My bureaucratic task that I had to perform was applying for a passport. The process is fairly easy when renewing a passport. Basically, your passport has to be in excellent condition and mailed to the office. But before that a form DS- 82 has to be filled out. it would take about 5-7 days for processing. The paperwork was pretty straight forward to fill out. Easier that filing out the first time applicant. All the steps seem like they all should be there as a security measure. I figure some process has to be difficult because they have to be very detailed and it makes it that must harder for people who are trying to commit fraud. Especially for the traveling section, I think it has to be complex in some way to stop illegal and potentially dangerous people from entering and for citizens in other countries to make sure they are protected. This project could come in handy in my future if I would want to renew my passport, since it goes out in June 2012.

Blog Post #3

Posted by Lauren Gore in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 9:25 am
My lobbying topic was curfew. This year would have to be a bad year in my point of view because, as a underage minor, the city has decided to make the curfew earlier "due to the increase of violence" with flash mobs. For the government, this year would be considered a good year because they successful passed a law regarding the curfew problem.
The text of the actual bill is here

To change this law or correct this law, citizens and voters are essential to this law. However the people essential to this problem when the voters do not come through the government officials like the commissioner and mayor.

This article may be true but there are other precautions to correct this problem. I think stricter penalties against their parents are in order with these strict curfew changes. I believe that this curfew change isn't going to be affective against these flash mobs. They have made the curfew earlier before and the flash mob have ceased to go down.

Possible good allies to help solve this curfew issue are the citizens of philadelphia who have conflict with this new curfew. We could first make a petition to boycott the bill. I could influence some of the youth around me to discourage flash mobs or not to attend a mob.

The US Patriot Act

Posted by Lauren Gore in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 6:24 am
I chose to pick the Patriot Act for the prior knowledge that I had of it from a paper written on it in 8th grade. I love talkng about 9/11 and honoring the people who have fallen.

In my opinion, this law was pass relatively fast and could have received a little more revision. This bill was pass in the nation most weakest point in it history, and the government need to strengthen their securities. Some of the paranoia of this attack and the creation of this law has cause a serious racial profiling issue for every muslim and/or of Arabic culture american problems. I think the government should look over this laws now and modernize and update it.
Reflection:

My decision for choosing this bil is before the project I was becoming interested in learning more about The Patriot Act. I had learned about it back in 9th grade for a brief time and we talked about how it became a law. I picked to make a video because  Some of the challenges I had faced was trying to make a interesting video and not packing it full of words and paragraphs. I also had difficulties making the background music for the video in garage band. I would make it better, honestly I think I could have done better. I had all the information but put it poorly in the presentation. The creation process of this law was  fast and not well thought out to me after researching it. The was not harder than the story of the bill on school house rock. It was easy in my opinion.

Lobbying part 2- Curfews

Posted by Lauren Gore in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 12:36 pm
The person who represents me in district 13 is Allyson Schwartz. She was born in Queens, New York. She was elected in 1990, as the Pennsylvania State Senate for northeast Philadelphia. She has not voted on the curfew law. Her biggest task is healthcare, but she is also working on: Economy and Jobs
Fiscal Responsibility
Building Livable Communities
Crime and Law Enforcement
Defense
Education
Energy
Environment
Foreign Affairs
Labor
Pennsylvania Specific Issues
Seniors
Taxes
Veterans

But Frank Dicocco of district 1, voted for the curfew. I disagree with his theory of making curfew stricter completely, he says they are brought on specifically for flash mobs. The should a better reason for creating this curfew. He should have taken a more stricter turn for the parents, they are the overall solution to this problem.

Curfew in Philadelphia

Posted by Lauren Gore in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:14 am
I lobbying changing the curfew enforced due to flash mobs. The city decided to make the curfew laws more stricter due to flash mob being in the raise recently. I fell as though the city could handle this issue of flash mobs a little bit better. I am lobbying to changing the curfew. My motivation to lobby this topic is from my own experiences. I am a responsible teenaged citizen of Philadelphia. I drive around the city and participate in activities with family functions and community service that involves me to be out later than 10:00. The supporter of my lobbying topic is mainly teenagers, mostly who aren't associated with flash mobs like the organization "We are F.L.A.S.H. mobs." A group of young adult who want to discourage the current idea of flash mobs. The main opponent of this law is the police and government officials of the city of Philadelphia. I fell as though the real solution to flash mob, is more penalties for the parents. They have to step up and discipline their children anyway they see fit. Most parents in Philadelphia are below the age 35. And that number is getting smaller and smaller, and the rates for young pregnancies raises. I think the government should talk more time to think out their decisions and stop making radical ones.

A guitar, are all about tension. The tighter the strings are the higher the pitch gets. The guitar in the picture has nine frets. The frets closer to the strumming area or center of the guitar make a higher pitch, vice versa. The strings from from left to right get thinner in shaper and the tension get tighter. Which means the sound get higher from left to right. When you place your finger on the  first fret on the fourth string the sound would be  deeper than if it was on the twelfth fret.
