Capstone 2012

Posted by Nikhail James in Capstone - Bey on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2:05 pm
For my capstone I took a mini class with the Jefferson Awards people for them to teach me how to start a new program like this in my school. So a former student and I of SLA took what we learned from this class and fought a way for us to go about doing this in SLA. The Jefferson Award presents an award to a student every month or so who does something outstanding in community service. My first steps were to get a group of voices to start a committee. And get the word out to SLA about this new program.

14th Amendment

Posted by Nikhail James in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 9:02 am
My partner mike and me chose the topic of the 14th amendment because we felt as thought it was the closet thing that related to us both. I liked how the project was kind of straight forward in different aspects. The most challenging thing about this benchmark was the editing part making everything flow right with each other. I could have improved my project more by going in depth into some of the parts of government that really controls how things go. I mostly ran into trouble with the editing and really showing how it pertains to my life. I believe that gathering information for mike went well he got to a good point with that. I would have more focus on the stuff we had to just mention cause we didn’t know much about.

Supreme Court Case Preso

Posted by Nikhail James in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 9:21 am

The State charged the defendant in a 17-count indictment with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated robbery. On February 10, 2000, 22-year-old L.J. worked until 8 p.m. as a cashier at a clothing store in Chicago. On her way home to the south side of the city, she purchased items at the store for her mother and went toward her home. As she passed an alley, the defendant came up behind her and forced her to sit in the backseat of a beige station wagon, where he told her to take her clothes off. The defendant then vaginally penetrated L.J. The defendant also contacted L.J.’s anus with his penis, but did not penetrate. He then pushed L.J. out of the car while keeping L.J.’s coat, money, and other items. After L.J. ran home, her mother opened the door and saw her in tears, partially clothed with only one pant leg on. After L.J. went into the bathroom, her mother called the police. Shortly after 9 p.m., Chicago police officers arrived at the home and found L.J. in the bathtub. She had not yet washed her vaginal area. After L.J. told the officers what had transpired, the officers issued a “flash” message for a black male, 5 foot, 8 inches tall, wearing a black skull cap, a black jacket and driving a beige station wagon. An ambulance transported L.J. and her mother to the emergency room. Whether a state rule of evidence allowing an expert witness to testify about the results of DNA testing performed by non-testifying analysts violates the Confrontation Clause, when the defendant has no opportunity to confront the actual analysts.

Musical Instrument Blog #2

I am making a thumb piano. The sound coming from a "thumb piano" is the rate of vibration of the key/pins over the hollow in the base. The body of the instrument, the base, is responsible for providing a stable platform to hold the keys very tight. It also acts as a resonating chamber to amplify the vibratory sound of the keys. The principal is the same as it is for a guitar. The main difference being each key on a thumb piano is only connected at one end. I will be changing the pitch with the length of the keys. Which are physical and important to the thumb piano besides from the base of it. I will be making the base out of a block a wood made hollow and bobby pins with pop sickles stick holding it in place tightly. Miner thing I might need help with is how the make the sound as loud as possible.

I am making a thumb piano. It is a rectangular shaped block, which belongs in the string family. It is played while in your hands or on a flat surface by flicking the pins, which act as the keys on this piano. The keys/ pins are different lengths so when you flick it, it produces different sounds. I plan to make it a 3 by 5 rectangle with bobby pins as keys, with different lengths to make different notes. A connection from this to waves are the vibration of the strings and the keys on my piano.
