Q4 Benchmark

Posted by Talib Friend in Statistics - Thompson on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 10:02 am

My favorite benchmark was the most recent benchmark because it was more beneficial to me than anyone else. This benchmark wasn’t all about learning new topics, because it was a study guide to help us out later on in life. Despite that it had to be the most beneficial benchmark out of all the benchmarks  we had over the course of the year. I applied statistics by using what I already knew and just making it into a study guide/tutorial. I felt like this was a great benchmark to do because it wasn’t exactly complicated but I feel like it was a nice way to finish out the year, especially when all the seniors are really just thinking about graduating and senioritis may still be lingering in our bodies.  The easiest part of the benchmark had to be when I just had to research my topics, because it was so easy I made sure to make my explanation super detailed so I could possibly get extra points for going over the top. It was also very easy to pick out the topics that I wanted to do because I could pick something that I could easily understand. The hardest part was definitely trying to explain everything in detail, I just feel like I had to explain everything very very well, by this I mean I basically did 2 pages for every topic and while that might not seem like a lot, It is when you have to work on like 10 different topics.

Inquiry: What have I learned over the year that could help me with this final benchmark? How does my understanding of the topics help me out? At this point we have a good central basis of what statistics is and from that we can branch out to different schools with our basic understanding and just expand our knowledge. My understanding of the topics helped big time, I literally mean that because if I sat there trying to learn some topics It would have taken a much longer time.

Research: Why would we look up the classes we are taking next year? How does that help us with the benchmark?  I think we looked up the classes for next year just to get a basic understanding on what we will have to be ready for next year, it helped us with the benchmark because maybe some of our tutorials had to do with the topics.

Collaboration: Not much to say here, I didn’t really collaborate with anyone while trying to complete my project but I guess I could’ve asked how were they presenting their information and what different computer programs they were using to do this.

Presentation: I didn’t really get fancy at all with this benchmark, I used basic notebook paper to create my tutorial and I used a word document to produce the written portion of my benchmark.

Reflection: After all this I would say that I worked very very hard on this project, but I must say, if I had done better earlier in the year then I would be in a different position than I am now.

So what I tend to do is to think
of today as the past
Its funny when you comin in first
but you hope...

you just hope....
that it lasts.

you say someone gotta lose
I thought I could have it all
Do I really gotta choose?
And what good is all the cash?
If it doesn't buy me time
and whats the point of being famous
If im never on your mind

Falling too fast
Clearly rules don't apply
Can't believe that I just met you
You got me here, watching minutes passing by
Wondering when to expect you.

The never-ending sentence

He rolled out of bed, today would be a big day for him so after he brushed his teeth, got dressed and took a shower, he left for school and while in school he asked his best friend to fix his tie, she sighed before she slowly pulled him closer, he bent down and she finished pretty quickly, whenever she did something for him he was always quick to thank her for doing whatever she did, so he quickly thanked her and began walking to his next class, "today will be a good day" he thought before strolling into his first period class, well at least until after school arrived then suddenly he remembered he forgot his breakfast in his locker, usually at this point he would just sit down and save it for later, since his stomach was grumbling he decided to take the trip back down to his locker, running into several people he new on the way downstairs until he made it to the stuffed locker on the 2nd floor, if he made it back upstairs in time maybe his teacher wouldn't say anything to him, he casually strolled into the classroom hoping he wasn't already telling the class what to do because that would most definitely attract some attention with the sudden presence of another student, even if it was his favorite teacher to begin with, because he was practically glued to his computer it gave him a slim window to slip into his seat, since he didn't see him he thought he could just open his computer and get started without anyone noticing, since the computer was off it would take a little while in order for him to get started, before he could even get to the sign in screen his teacher already had his hand on his shoulder, softly patting "You get started on your story yet?" "Not yet, my computer just started up" "Oh really, well get started so" he gave off a warm smile as always and walked away, then he looked up at the board which read "Write 250 words to a short story without periods, be sure to use good grammar" he sat there for a minute and read what was on the board again wondering how in the world he was supposed to write a story without a complete thought, without the use of a period, suddenly he became so much more appreciative for the period, then his teacher walked up to the board ad begin writing "If your getting stuck on your short story, you should probably look up this on Google..........subordinate clauses" and so the young senior began writing away, jumpstarted by the subordinate clauses he found.

You get that charger yet?

Posted by Talib Friend in Storytelling - Chase on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 12:23 pm
"Hey Zach, did you get a new charger?"

Thats all it took for Zach to get started. Freshman year, it seemed like we were all lost whenever we didn't have our laptops. Back then, it was easy to get frustrated without it, the desire to have the machine at our fingers was unmatched compared to the other schools in Philadelphia.

But of course when things went wrong, we had to wait

Of all our friends, Zach was the first to have a major problem with this. Something (I forgot) happened to his charger and he was unable to use his computer as much as he wanted to, often asking the rest of our group for their chargers to use for the period, day, etc. Evett, another friend from our group was particularly interested in wether Zach was able to get a charger or not. Maybe Obsessed is the right word to use, because there wasn't a day she forgot to ask him at least once. Zach was always a calm person, he still is today, little did we know the question that Evett asked him everyday started to fan the fire inside of Zach.

" I wonder if Zach got a charger"

I was the first to say it this time, but he wasn't around. He usually ran late during first period, we all did at one point.

"Im gonna ask him when he gets in"

This was routine for Evett by now, we would've never expected what happened next. Zach rolled in as expected and sat down in his chair, everyone from our group greeted him, it was primed to be a normal day until Evett asked him again.

"Hey Zach, you get that charger yet?"

I saw Zach's face getting red, at this point the unexpected was becoming reality, he took a deep breath and let out a yell that could've traveled through the entire school, but only managed to hit our ears.

"I told you 5 freakin times!!!!!!!!! I dont have a charger!!!!!!!!"

We all sat there in shock. Everyones face had a weird twisted expression. Zach let out a sigh and continued his work.

"Ok......"

It was almost like Evett whispered. The shock of the moment passed and I could see everyone slowly smiling. Zach looked up and couldn't help but smile with the rest of us. Then, in that moment we all shared a great laugh that i'll always remember.
