Crazy Lady

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:58 am
Crazy is in the eye of the beholder and isn't something I normally say with seriousness. There is a woman however who I see on the trolley almost every day in the same spot. To many of the people who take the 34 she is well known. She talks to herself asks for quarters and rambles about many things including but not limited to race, religion, hats, dogs, robins, and shoes.

I haven't broken yet but soon i shall scream, maybe after leave the building. I'm not gay/bi/tran and that doesn't matter. No one should be bullied for being a different race or a different gender or for having different beliefs or for being gay. We're all human after all and to each their own.

When I was younger we lived in the suburbs (not a good neighborhood but we had a yard). When it came time to take the trash out i was always terrified. The lack of noise and the total lack of light made going to get the trash cans from the side of the house terrifying. I tell you this story so i can tell you another one. My grandpa leaves tools around my house all the time because he works in the city and needed somewhere nearby to store the bigger things. While i was getting the trash one night by grandpa grabbed my shoulder and I panicked. i elbowed my grandpa in the rib and sprinted into the house. My dad went out after I came running in and walked in a few minutes later with my grandpa, my dad found it funny.

A Character

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 9:09 am
To an author, a character is real. Their life their story their actions are as real as what anyone else does, the only diffrence is that what they do doesn't physically act on our world. It works in a diffrent world that again is just as real as ours.

Is the emotion i got for the English story. From what Chase told me about my story it seems i developed the Narrators personality much more then i did the actual character. Now in my attempts to infuse his sarcastic comments into Ryan's boring life it's reminded me why i hate writing about people with boring perfect lives, it's harder to pick at them.

Gaming is an odd thing. You use a product for entertainment that gives ridiculous amounts of frustration. I've recently started playing a fairly good game on the hardest difficulty. I've been keeping track of how many times i've died in the game since starting. 79 deaths later and i'm still playing with no intention of quitting, regardless of how many times I have to replay the same god damn fight.

The Zachary Disease

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 7:23 pm
When I was in elementary school I was mercilessly bullied by a student for reasons I couldn't understand. The Zachary disease was equivalent to what would be considered cooties, except it was spread by touch and I was the exclusive carrier of it. Fortunately i didn't realize that was meant to bully me till much much later down the road. I could never understand why Eric was so angry at me when I touched people and said you got the Zachary disease now, it was his game after all.

5 picture story Alex's Escape

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 8:22 am
The primitive robot clicked and whirred as it went through it routines. It's a bit amazing how a class actually managed to build an antonymous system to run most of the actions in the school. It managed the clocks and actually kept them on time as well as throwing any alarms at the hint of danger. odd though despite the awards its won and the numerous safety tests it went through something was wrong. the system was clicking more sporadically then normal, slower, less  then what would be considered good.

When Alex woke up this morning he went through the normal routines and headed off to school. about halfway through the day is when something he would never forget happened. The fire alarms started flashing and the noise was deafening. As Alex exited his classroom random parts of the hallway started collapsing in fire. Alex ducked into a stairwell and started to decent but as he got farther down he found the fire blocked one of the final sets of stairs. Alex took a deep breathe stepped over the edge and paused. The jump was risky, he knew this. Alex wasn't the most coordinated of kids and he had never done anything like this before, hell he tripped walking down the hallway normally. Unfortunately Alex didn't have to make much of a decision. Fire began racing down the stairs behind him and Alex decided it was now or never. He jumped and for a moment he saw his life flash before his eyes before he hit the stairs hard and rolled down, Alex's world went black.

When he woke up a girl he had never met before was dragging him away from the stairs. As he gazed around dizzily he saw a sign he thought he would never see, an exit sign! Alex alerted the girl that he was okay and she helped him to his feet, he stumbled for a second but the girl caught him and they ran out of the building. In the aftermath of the fire it was learned that a student who had a lot of money and didn't get into the school based on wealth alone sabotaged the alarm system and started the fires on multiple floors. He was caught and after a lengthy and expensive trial he was tried as an adult and got life in prison for the pain suffering destruction he caused. many students were injured in the chaos and a few other students did not make it out. Alex and the girl eventually grew to be good friends and then something more the friends. Events such as this cause a unique relationship type to grow, they were friends forged in fire.

I discovered this when I woke up in the middle of the night and her meowing. unfortunately I still wasn't allowed to touch her kittens without her permission  so i just had glaring contests with tabby every morning.

During a walk home from school in freshman year i was walking with Perry and like the weird person i am i decided to grab perry and remind her that she's a person, also to say hi. during this grab a ridiculously oversized icicle fell down and landed where Perry would've been if she continued to walk. We just kind of stared at it for a while  before it sunk in. My random bouts of insanity actually saved someone's life, or at least someone from serious pain.

End of the season.

Student's run was an interesting experience and I had a really good team. This is a picture of what remained of the team by the end of the season (after the marathonish type things were over).

Biting Humor

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:25 pm
In 9th grade I ended up staying over a friend's house really late working on a benchmark. When April fools rolled around my parents decided to use this in a prank on my grandma. My dad was in the bedroom playing a board game with my sister and my mom was cooking dinner. Grandma was sitting on the couch when my dad called my phone from the bed room. When I answered I began saying the type of lines my parents told me to say.. which were lines along the lines of "are you sure it's mine?" after about 10 minutes of this I hung up the phone and put on the most sullen look I could muster. My mom asked me what was wrong on cue (my grandma's face was unique by this point) and I said I got a girl pregnant. I started crying and when my grandma came over to hug me i whispered april fools in her ear mid hug..... she bit me on my shoulder.

Story #5 Story time in the Hospital

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 7:22 pm
We got to the hospital around 11ish and I signed myself in because i was a big boy. my sister got sent to my uncle's house around 11:30. After about 12:30ish we started reading Harry Potter and we continued this up until the x-rays and then while we were waiting for the results. The reason this stuck with me is because everyone in the room (there were quite a few people in the same room just barely separated by curtains) was into and enjoying the book. We were able to read a solid 2 and a half hours of the book and we got legitimate cries of disappointment when we left. At about 3:00 am we left the hospital and I am informed that i rambled inane and random questions on the way to the car about things that made no sense.

Story #4 Not a leg to stand on.

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Easter of whatever year Harry Potter and the goblet of fire came out.  My sister and I were playing with toy cars. It was a few hours after bedtime and it started getting cold. I didn't want to go downstairs to get my parents because they would make us go to bed so I got the "brilliant" idea to stack up two chairs, a silver case, and a pillow (for safety of course) and climbed up my poorly constructed tower to meet the fan cord. Expectedly it fell and I landed my face on the back of one of the play chairs. I cried and screamed and my sister backed out of the room. My parents came upstairs and decided after figuring out what happened that it was time for a hospital trip. (the hospital portion of this story merits another story so more tomorrow)

Story #3 Fingers of Fire

When I was about 8 my family and I were down the sure visiting a bunch of other family members. during this time I was left upstairs alone with two slightly older cousins (age 10) while playing my game they started looking around the apartment type room we were staying in and they found and started playing with my moms lighter. Being how I was i snatched it back from them because "touching mommy's lighter is bad" while grabbing it back Tim (one of the aforementioned boys) accidentally turned the lighter on and I burnt my hand and ran to the kitchen sink. Although no serious damage was done I was pretty dramatic at the time and my mom was proud of me when she heard the story.

Story #1 Tech Support (Zachary Walls Version)

Posted by Zachary Walls in Storytelling - Chase on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 12:29 pm

(Note: this is a story that other people in this class are involved in, as such there will be two separate versions of this story each with different details and views as everyone sees and remembers things differently.)

On a Saturday Anthony was staying at my house because it was closer to his work. We stayed up until about 3a.m playing two different xboxes on two different tvs next to each other before he decided it was time for him to sleep. We got out the air mattress and found it had no batteries for the pump so Anthony decided to spend the next hour and a half trying to blow it up by hand. Still playing my xbox and ignoring his whining about the lack of batteries i didn't notice when he took out his phone and started calling people. He called Evett and shouted Tech support over and over into the phone because the pump wouldn't work. Evett got angry and hung up after she realized he was just being weird. a few minutes later Evett logged on most likely due to being unable to sleep and Anthony spammed her with requests for tech support until she either logged off or blocked him. Anthony eventually gave up and slept on his partially inflated air mattress and I had to hold his phone for him so he would stop randomly dialing people as he did manage to get a hold of and wake up one more person as well as fail to reach 4 other people before I took the phone away. It was a strange night morning.

Evolution of Intelligence

Posted by Zachary Walls in Science and Society - Best on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 8:55 am
Why does a species evolve to speak? What causes something evolves to the point where it can think, “hey this fruit is too high maybe I can use these rocks to get it down”.  Like with many things a credible theory for why would be evolution. If we look on our branch we will find Chimpanzees.  Chimpanzees evolved from a common ancestor and for all purposes are our sister species.  Like humans there is more to what they do then eating and mating. They have figured out how to communicate with each other, they work together to accomplish goals. They can stop and analyze a situation rather then just jumping in. they make use of tools in their surroundings to help them complete their goals. They care what other members of their species think about and fall into ranks under who has the most food or best ability to get food. And they are quite capable of using deception to gain the advantage over other members of their species. At the moment it is unknown exactly what caused us to develop the way we did and what caused our relatives to evolve the way we did. But what this does show is that intelligence is a evolutionary trait and not something we just have. It shows that something must have gone right in our branch’s past to allow us to be how we are today.
