Hohenstein Art Negative Space

Posted by Margaret Hohenstein in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 9:51 am

A. Negative space is the space around an object. So if there was a shadow it would be everything but the shadow.

B. I found the negative space by outlining the object in my stool drawing. This allowed me to see where the stool was and where the negative space was. For my cutout I found the negative space by creating a mirror image.

C. It helps an artist to see what is there and what isn't there. To look beyond just what you see with your eye.

D. No, because if you see in only negative space you can't see the details of the object itself.

Positive and Negative Space

Negative Space is the area around the image and inside the image in spaces. It is not taken up by the image and can be described as the background.

Positive & Negative Space

1. Negative Space is the area around the image and inside the image in spaces. It is not taken up by the image and can be described as the background.

2. For the cut out I took notice of the green color. I knew that this would be my positive space, forcing the black part of the artwork to become negative space. For the stool I drew the outline of all the objects. Afterwards I added in the details of negative space within the shape.

3. I think it helps the artist see the background. The background is a very important part in any form of art. Seeing the negative space and not only the positive space helps create a balance between the two.

4. In my opinion it does enhance drawings. If you had only positive space you could be left with an irregular shape that has hundred of possibilities. By having negative space within the drawing you can figure out what the shape is because you get a better view and detail precision.

Negative and Positive Space

A. Negative space is the space around and between the subjects of an image.

B. I found the negative space by just seeing the outer layer of the picture. The negative space is the the picture that seems to be the picture but it's really just the outline of the actually object.

C. I think it helps an artist because if an help you see your drawing in a different point of view or it can help you see a picture in an abstract type of view as well.

D. Yes because again as I said, It can help you see your picture in a different point of view.

Negative Space

Posted by Lala Doumbia in Art - 9 - Hull on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 12:46 pm

Hello today I'm going to tell you about negative space. What is negative space? Negative space is a cut out part in the picture. Look at the bird picture, do you see how the black is in the back. The blue was the one I cut out. I used half of the blue paper to cut out the bird and place it to look black and blue (a pattern). That how I know its negative space.

Negative and Positive Space ___Cutout

Posted by Arianny Valdez in Art - 9 - Hull on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 12:44 pm

1) Negative Space is the sketch and or drawing that shouldn't be drawn by someone. This can be known as the background of an image.

2) To find where the negative space is all I did was realized what the outer surface of the object is in which basically to me is know as the outer layer. This what I did for the first project. For the second project it's very difficult to explain therefore it's better for people to visualize it instead.

3) Seeing this type of art made me see that art can really be exact and perhaps precise. This made me change my opinion about art because this shows that art is something that needs to be drawn almost close to being perfect.

4) Yes, this does help the artist because it helps me see the difference between an image and just random space that actually makes up the particles of any image.

Negative and Positive Space by Sadie

A. Negative space is the space that would generally be left white in a picture. It is the background of the drawing and the spaces that are left empty.

B. Negative space in our drawing with color is our reflection of negative space in each drawing. You are taking the negative space and making them into a reflection. Making the negative space the positive space and vice versa.

C. It helps an artist to see negative space because it can help you even out lines and see what should really be in each spot. It provides for more accurate drawings and a better view on being an artist.

D.  seeing in negative space enhances the perspective of the drawing and knowing what is going on in the drawings. It helps you get a better understanding of how to draw.

Negative and Positive space

Posted by Arshelle Johnson in Art - 9 - Hull on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 12:23 pm

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the space between and around the object. When you draw a picture the blank space around the picture is considered the negative space.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
When I was finding the negative space in my cut out I just looked around the edge of the tree. When i was doing the drawling of my stool i just looked in the spaces where the stool wasn't drawn.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see negative space cause the can see where the lines stop in the drawling and you can see the detail in the picture.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

Yes seeing negative space enhances the drawings cause you eyes will be more focused on the picture.
