This quarter was a very understanding quarter, meaning, we just created our old art pieces into new art pieces. We drew lots of different arts, however the best of all were the chosen one. Some of the many drawing we accomplish were, we had to draw a Self Portrait using 8 x 8 paper and Self Portrait using 24 X 36 paper and color wheel.   For the color wheel we basically drew a bug circle and painted it with the rainbows colors. However, we started with the three primary colors and mixed two of each to get one color. Example red and green makes green, and now we would mix green and another primary color to get another color for the wheel.

Artist Statement

Through out this quarter we used the basics from the last two quarters and made better art pieces. Since in the last two quarters we had worked on perfecting our shading and drawing object more real with out using the original black lines since there are no black lines lining everything. We had to make a Color wheel which demonstrated the use of colors and what can be done with only the colors blue, red, and yellow. We also had to make two self portrait to develop our detailing in drawings. As well we also had to make a perspective drawing which opens our eyes to nature and fixing our outer detail drawing. This quarter truly shows our artistic abilities and shows if we were able to capture everything we learned from the videos and from what Ms. Hull taught us due to the fact that we were given more responsibility with out work and more freedom to make it our own.

During the time that it took me to make my self portrait I learned more about capturing the human body. While I was drawing I noticed more about the features on my face and body than I would on a regular basis looking in the mirror. I started off by drawing the basic features on the human face and thought I was done. I did not realize that it didn't look like me and I had drawn some other average person. Thats when I had to really analyze my face to capture specific details and make the drawing more me. Thats where shading comes for skin tone and to capture lighting. This had to be my favorite art piece since it was challenging and I'm proud with what turned out. This is something I would like to practice another time to master it and hopefully then learn to get into more detail such as hair or eyes.

Q3, Blog

Posted by Jamekea Lee in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 12:03 pm

This quarter in art, I feel as though I didn't do as good as I could had. I feel as though I kind of slacked off but still managed to get most of the things done. However, I will do much better nice quarter because of the weekly check-ins. If I would had put the effort in it this year I would had got everything done.

This quarter we had to create two self portraits, one small and one large. I wasn't able to do either of them, because I'm not capable of drawing faces. I did try to draw them though, but I failed and decided not to use them. The other assignments were: color wheel, texture, 2pt perspective, and shade. As you can see below in the picture below my drawings. I can say that I tried my hardest on all of them, but didn't really accomplish anything.

I know that I'm actually bringing myself down but I'm just telling the truth. Next quarter I'll do much better as I said before. Anyways, here's all my work:

Artist Statement Creighton

Posted by Tyler Creighton in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 12:15 am

Through out this quarter we all used basic steps to improv our art work. But in the last two quarters, we have been working on shading, vanish point and reflection. In this quarter we worked on Self portrait small, Self portrait Large, Color wheel, texture, shade, journals.Idid not do the 2 point perspective, although I did attempt to try it I will show you my attempt on my blog. This quarter is beginning to show our skills and how they are improving and how they are beginning to grow and become more artistic.

For this first part of the project we were assigned Two self portraits. Small and Large. Both of them included shading, shadow and great sketching. All of these skills that we have learned so far in advanced art. It did not take me a very long time to do my drawing even though I tried my best.I noticed that the smaller portrait looked like me a bit more than the large it was harder to line the lips and other small features that aren’t big but very easy to catch the human eye if crooked. Below are my two drawing both small and large and remember this is my best.

For the rest of my projects they weren't the best because they were rushed. But I did try my best and I feel I deserve at least a B.

Blogs:

New York Trip

In January I went to New York with my mom and god-mom. Before the year started I wanted to take pictures of all the big events that I have this year. I want to be able to look back and remember these things. Therefore, I took pictures of the architecture in New York along with random things I saw and moments in my life. I began experimenting with lighting to get good pictures even when it was really dark outside.

The only things that were challenging to me were playing around with my camera. To see all of the cool things and effects I was able to do. This video is just my journey in New York throughout those few days. Most of the pictures look similar in quality. The cool thing that I learned was you can make pictures look really similar even if they are in completely different effects. Enjoy this video.

Lomography

For Christmas I got a lomography camera. It is the Diana f+. It was originally made in the 50s/60s and sold as a toy camera. It was only sold for one dollar. However, the quality of the photos caused a uniqueness that photographers loved. Thats the reason why I love this camera. It has a greenish undertone to the pictures making it look like it is almost in a comic book effect.

I encountered a lot of problems when doing this project. It actually was not taking the pictures it was finding a good place to get them developed. This camera takes film the same way that disposable cameras do. Therefore I went to the same places to get them developed such as Rite Aid , Walgreens, and CVS. Each place that I went to, they ruined my pictures. I then went to a professional shop and they were able to retrieve a few photos from one roll of film that cvs was going to ruin. Below is a link to the video with the few pictures I have from taking pictures on 6 rolls of film. Overall, it was a good experience, but make sure you research every aspect of it a lot before you begin.

Eye

With this project, I drew a picture of an eye. It is the first picture below. I did not intend to paint an eye when I began painting. I drew a circle to start off with and then I accidentally had a flat top on the top of the circle. Then, I decided I was going to turn it into an eye to even cover up that mistake. After I drew the outline of the rest of the eye to make sure I didn't make anymore mistakes, I gathered paint and began to paint it. After, I added the final touches like the eyebrow and eyelashes. And the background is the skin tone of a person that I tried to create.

Two point perspective

With  this project, I drew a picture of my name in block letters using two point perspective. I drew a horizon line and at each end of the line I point a dot to symbolize the vanishing point. Then, I drew a line from this vanishing point as the outline. It should look like a sideways diamond. Then I drew letters within the diamond to form my name but still forming two point perspective. It was really challenging making the letters go into two point perspective. The picture that I drew for the first time is the second picture below.

Mixers Statement

The art of mixing musc is basically finding the perfect balance of a specific field of music and then making it make utter and complete sense. You might think its like putting your favorite playlist on shuffle but in reality its taking every song in your playlist and song that you used to like and were and still are good songs and playing them for the enjoyment of people. Like the quote from Aldous Huxley says "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.".

2nd Quarter Artist Statement.

For the first picture we want to make fashion sketches and we did but we thought of making a collage with everything that influenced our drawings.

For the second and third picture we had to draw an animal in the style of Tim Burton. I loved this project. I got to be really creative and have a lot of fun with it.

2nd Quarter Artist statement Tyler Creighton

Posted by Tyler Creighton in Advanced Art - Hull on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 4:00 pm

The second quarter wasn't quite the same as the first. The art is beginning to expand in different ways and forms of art. It changed from a simple drawing and shading to paintings, sculptures (by choice) and photography. Starting the quarter off we drew a large version of our clear object that had a shade and a shadow. We did this in the last quarter so it wasn't very complicated. The more advanced projected that we progressed to were bicycle drawing, sculpture, and our 200 photographs project.

What i enjoyed the most was doing the photo project and editing 5 of them. We took 200 photos and picked five of them that stood out to us then edit them. After that, we went into photoshop and edited the pictures anyway we wanted to.I had fun feeling like I was a photographer and snapping photos of something that was still or moving objects.

Below, I have posted the main pieces of art I did this quarter. In order from top to bottom:
Large Clear Object
Bike
Sculpture
Five Edited Photos That are edited and stood out to me
I look forward to doing the projects for next quarter.
