Fashion is Art

Posted by Desiree Mack in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 2:06 pm

All my life I have been into fashion and it is a major part of my life. Fashion gives me a creative forum to express my self in ways other forms of art can not. I see what you wear as a mirror of your inner self and  and they way you feel. Sitting watching an old Dereck Lam fashion show I was inspired to create a piece of art that represents both of my passions, fashion and art.

For this piece I used recycled coupon newspapers and and glue. It was't easy trying to shape and form the news print paper into the style I wanted so the design changed quite a few times. My end design became a two piece garment, a bandeau top and ruffled bottom. Creating the dress in paper signified the first design and the first idea will last forever but it can always be changed  and made better and that goes for things that happens in life.

Quarter 2 Project: Black&White vs Color

Posted by Alexis Beren in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 8:06 am

For my 2nd quarter project I wanted to show the contrast between color and black and white. At first I wasn't sure how I would show this, but one day when I was really angry I made a splatter painting. I painted the page black and then threw colors onto it. The result was this:

Next I got a white sheet of paper and splattered just black paint on it. The comparison of the two is this:

After, I got another white sheet of paper and splattered colors onto it. The I painted a piece black and splattered white on it. The resulting comparison was this:

From here I wanted to draw actual shapes and things so I started a colorful drawing with flowers and got this:

Instead of finishing my colorful project I moved onto a black and white Mandala drawing on the opposite side of the paper. This took ridiculously long to make, but the result was this:

This was my favorite thing to make, even though it was epically difficult. The comparison between my two final drawings is this:

I had a lot of fun doing every aspect of this project. I just wish I would have done this blog post on time :(

AJ's sketchs

Posted by Anthony Carter in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 7:39 am

I did a terrible job with these. To me my hands look like clay-mation on paper. So i tried doing them in different ways. Didn't work to my expectations. But draewing me kind of did. So i don't quite get what made my face easier to draw.

The scan doesn't do the contrast justice.

Hand Drawing

In art class we were assigned to draw one picture a week, starting on Tuesday and working on them all class period up until Friday. The first picture we were assigned to draw was a pencil sketch of our hand. We had to draw it on an 8x11 piece of paper, trying to use as much of the paper as possible. After we got the design and shape of our hands down, we added shadows and shading to them too. We were to make them as realistic as possible, no cartoon hands. This is the end result of my hand. Week two: Pencil Self portrait

Photo on 2011-02-03 at 19.03 2
So this is my self portrait, I'm actually quite proud of it even though it's lacking a few main features. Yes, the eyes aren't there...but it was really diffcult for me to draw my eyes and have glasses on at the same time. Every time I would try, it would look weird or they would be uneven. It was a mess. Also I didn't really shade anything or had any highlights to my hair and everything. I save that for last, when I'm completely satisfied with the results...and this picture I don't believe is done to the best of my abilities. I'll keep adding to it, and upload more pictures as I go along.[Click image for bigger more clear picture]

Week Three: Bigger Self Portrait
P1030837
This is the result of my bigger self portrait. I've come to the conclusion that drawing big isn't my strongest point. This was also supposed to be done with charcoal. The outline of the drawing is, but I didn't shade or do anything to make it "pop" form the page. I get scared that if one mistake and the whole thing is going to be ruined. So I try to make them as simple and basic as possible. I'll eventually add more  to the drawing, if I have time. For now that's what it looks like. I'm sort of pleased with it. In a way it resembles me. [Click image for bigger more clear picture]

Week Four: Drawing of someone in class
P1030852P1030854
This is my attempt at a full body drawing. Again, I'm afraid that big isn't really my cup of tea. I feel much more comfortable drawing small. Also, Drawing faces and people is my least favorite thing to draw. Maybe that has a lot to do with why it's so unfinished looking. I try so hard to make them perfect, or as close to real life as I can, that I lose track of time and then I have to rush through it so it's done and I have something to show for my work. I'm also very afraid that I'm going to offend the person somehow, if I draw them bad. Which, is how I feel about this drawing. Kim, in no way shape or form looks like this. I wish I wasn't so judgmental about my work, I think that this could be pretty good, if I gave myself credit and actually stoped worrying about what it looked like. Week Five: Still Life

*Pictures and artist statement coming soon.*

Week Six: Small clear object (cup)
P1030883
Sorry for the bad quality of the photo. This is the drawing I did of my starbucks cup. This was actually a pretty fun one for me to do. Since I was aloud to pick any clear object, I decided that a Starbucks cup would be nice. The hardest thing about drawing this, was making it look 3D and not 2D, I wanted to create the look that there was something behind the logo of the cup. That it was an actual cup. I believe I did a pretty good job with that. [Click image for bigger more clear picture]

Hand Drawing

Posted by Leeann Nguyen in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:59 am

This is the hand drawing I spend doing in class for the week. At first I thought it was going to be difficult but it turned out to be fun and sort of easy making the hand. I started with making an square and cylinder for the fingers to start then I traced the hand over and got the following picture that represent my hand drawing.

Weekly Drawings

Posted by Ralen Robinson in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 12:16 am

January 17-21,2011

During the week of 17-21 we were assigned a challenging but creative way to make a realistic model of your hand. In those few days we had to construct a model of our hand in various ways may it be using shapes or lines the main goal was to get a hand done.

January 31- February 4, 2011

In this week we had to enlarge our self portarit to a bigger scale streching what we thought we saw to what was actually right there. In this week my whole comfortable mind frame to shattered & pushed to the next level in this self portrait.
