Fourth Quarter Art Portfolio

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1:03 am
During the fourth quarter in senior art class, Ms. Hull gave us one assignment to to do every week. The art assignments that we had to complete this quarter were challenging in their own ways. They included building a sculpture or craft of some sort, take 200 photos and edit 5 of them, copy a piece of artwork by a famous artist, draw a bike three times, and draw an observation from outside. Below are pictures of descriptions of each of the assignments.
Build a Sculpture:
For this assignment, i didn't necessarily sculpture something. Instead, I built a guitar. I decided to build a guitar because I've always wanted to make one. There was some extra wood in my back yard from some work that my step father had done on our house. The week that the specific assignment was assigned is when I worked on this guitar. I had my bother help me make the guitar, and I let my younger twin brothers color it. Making this guitar was fun. I put a lot of work into making it. It sounded great when it was finished as well.

Take Photos/Edit Photos:

For this specific assignment, I took 200 hundred pictures of the most random things. After taking those pictures, I just randomly picked five of them. I used photoshop to edit the pictures in a variety of ways. The photos that I edited were of things in the school like the clock on the wall on the second floor, the big painting of the animals, the masks that Ms. Manuel's spanish class made, and a pair of classes that were on one of the tables. The last picture that I edited was a photo of myself. There was no specific reason why I choose these pictures, but I thought what I did to edit them was pretty cool.

Famous Artwork
I decided to copy a painting done by Paul Kleen. The painting is of some type of star. I choose to do this because it looked cool and it was easy to do. Paul Kleen is one of the few painters that I actually know of, and I like his work. As I looked for something to copy, this stood out to me because of the design in the painting and what it means. This painting probably doesn't strike anyone as exciting but it's meaning makes it have more than how it appears.

Draw An Observation From Outside
This drawing is my worst of the quarter. I actually forgot to do this drawing during the quarter, so I drew this just s I could have something to turn in. I attempted to draw the my observation of the store from across the street. There is no type of detail in this drawing, I was focusing on getting this drawing done more than actually turning in a piece of quality artwork.

Draw A Bike

I only have one picture for the bike assignment. Sade helped me draw this bike. It wasn't hard and it was ultimately a fun assignment.

The NBA Finals start on Tuesday. My team as you should know by now (Miami Heat) are going up against the Dallas Mavericks. This is the rematch of the 2006 NBA Finals when the Heat came back from an 0-2 series hole to win four straight games and beat the Mavs for the title. DWade averaged 34 points. I hope I can relive that championship experience! #teamheat

And i can admire ya body but ya mind is much deepa
And i found me a keepa
And i found me a winner.
And i found me a queen. What we eatin for dinner?
You kno i cook it and clean it and do wateva for ya.
Black motha of the earth u kno i forever owe ya
I will never ignore ya cuz im foreva loyal
Lets fall in love lemme put my seed in ya soil
See it'd be a honor to create life wit ya
Can i lay right wit ya?
And wake u up wit light kisses?
Goodmorning sunshine see the more i see ya eyes is the more that i admire ya.
Whenever you tired i be right there beside the pillow talkin confide
Make ya secrets all mine may i sleep between ya thighs and wake up deeply in
Your heart in ur mind for foreva and repeat when we get up?
I aint even gon front girl i think you is the one
So lets fall asleep with the moon and i will greet you with the sun

Weird Phone Convo.

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11:07 am
Last night I had an interesting phone conversation with a person I didn't even know. It was some girl named Erica. She called me and as if she has known me for years saying "Hey wassup Tajh." I was confused for a moment because I didn't recognize her voice. I said hello and asked her who she was and she told me that I told Muhammad to give her my number at his party a few weeks back. I told her didn't remember doing that but I decided to just play along and talk to her anyway. We talked for a few minutes then she started laughing and asked me how I was doing. When I was about to respond to her she just hung up. I didn't even call her back because like I said earlier, I didn't even know her. That whole conversation was just weird.

Toy Story 3

Over break I watched Toy Story 3 for the first time and that is now one of my favorite movies. The entire movie brings back memories of my days as a kid but what really hits home is the ending. My two favorite scenes of the movie are "The Furnace" scene when the toys thought they were about t die and the last scene in the movie when Andy gave his toys away to the little girl, Bonnie. Having grown up on the trilogy of Toy Story really played a part in why I like the movie so much. It was a great way to end the Toy Story series.

3rd Quarter Artist Statement/Drawings/5 Pg. Paper

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 3:18 pm
Tajh Jenkins

April 8, 2011

Senior Artist Statement

This quarter of senior art has been very challenging. The drawings that we had to create we’re very challenging to me because I’m do not trust my abilities as an artist. I think that when drawing things, you trust your skills and have confidence that what you are drawing is good and has meaning. There were times during this quarter when I was discouraged by what I was drawing because I would look across from me to see someone else’s drawing that I thought was way better than mines. Even though I think that my drawings aren’t as good as they could be, I did try my best on each one. I completed every assignment except for the full figure drawing. I didn’t finish that drawing because it took me longer than a week to draw it and after the first week, Kim was posing for the class anymore.

The drawings that I liked doing the most were the hand drawing, and the self-portrait drawing, specifically the large one. I liked these drawings the most because I think that those were my best work. My hand drawing was very simple and easy to draw and I like the detail that I was able to put in it. I think that my large self-portrait is my best drawing that I create in the third quarter. It looks exactly like me in my eyes. I actually enjoyed drawing both the hand and the self-portraits. My enthusiasm to draw them made the drawings become my best works.

Having a drawing once a week became stressful because I was used to have ample time to create one piece as we did in the first two quarters. Having a drawing once a week kept me on my toes. The fact that Ms. Hull gave us an extra two weeks to complete any drawings that we missed did benefit me. I don’t think that Ms. Hull getting sick affected me negatively. I think that since we are seniors, we should have been able to hold our own and still complete the drawings and ask Ms. Hull to tell us what she thought about them whenever she came back to school.

Ms. Hull did a good job this quarter giving the condition that she’s in. As a student, I could have done some things differently. I think that I could have used my class time more effectively. Even though I got most of my assignments done, I found myself procrastinating a lot because we had so much time to finish these projects. I think that I could have used most of the time I took not doing work to make my projects better. Overall I think that I was mostly successful this quarter. I hope that I can continue being successful in the 4th quarter and for the rest of the school year.

Championship Game.

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 4:49 pm
So besides doing homework tonight, my attention will be focused on the Men National Championship Basketball Game between UCONN and Butler. Butler was in the championship game last year but they wound up losing tow Duke. UCONN won the national championship in 2004. This game wasn't expected to be played by these two teams by most people across the country, but there is some really talented players playing and it will for sure be a fun game to watch. I'm rooting for UCONN because of Kemba Walker. He is one of the best two players in the nation, the other being Jimmer Fredette of BYU. He is a real talented player and it would good for him to go into the NBA with a national championship on his prolific college basketball resume.

Cant Be Friends.

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 11:38 pm
Tasha and Henry ended their love on a bad note. Henry knew that they weren’t perfect but he refused to not believe that he made their world and he didn’t understand how she couldn’t notice. Maybe she was just in denial because she was used to losing. Putting Henry through grief was her answer to it. There were nights when he would just put on his vans and take a walk to cool it. Tasha was like a test and Henry was the student that couldn’t pass it. He tried his best plenty of times but he could never get the right solutions. It was also one thing after another one. Henry remembered times when his mom told him that he was too young. He responded by saying, “Well what that mean?” He took a chance on the game of love and now it’s never ending. Steady forever chasing that first feeling. It was like he was forever on the quest for a women’s treasure that she kept hidden. When Henry and Tasha broke up, he vowed to find love even if it killed him. He could run into it any day. One day Henry was in the house about to lie down. Henry sat on his bed forgetting that his phone was in his back pocket. His iPhone accidentally called Tasha. They both said hello, then there was a silent moment. “Man I been missing you, and I know you miss me too” said Henry. Tasha sighed then replied, “I thought we would be together until the end, and this is the end. We can’t be friends anymore.” Then she hung up the phone. Henry, still on the other end of the line sat with his jaw dropped and all he could say was “Damn.”

Shadowing At Watermark.

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 11:38 pm
This weekend I shadowed an employee and my potential future job, Watermark. Watermark is a retirement home. My job is to be a waiter. I shadowed a female employee named Tyanna. She was very nice and she showed me the ins and outs of the job and everything that I would be expected to do. The other employees were nice as well. They were very informative schooled me on how to be the best employee I can be while putting my own style to the way I work. I stayed there for two hours following Tyanna around observing the way she worked and asking various questions. I also got the chance to talk to Amira, who actually put me on the job and gave me the application. All in all, I had a good time and learned a lot of thing and met some interesting old people. On Monday, I have to call Watermark back and ask to schedule for my PDD’s (physical). After that’s complete, they’ll schedule me to train. When my week of training is up, they will make the decision to keep me or not. I hope everything can turn out in my favor. This job is very good look, and even though it looks like there is a lot of work that you have to put into the job, I look forward to doing it.

I had a good time at Laurn’s party on Friday night. There were a lot of people there. People from SLA, Temple, and other people that I didn’t know attended the party. All in all I didn’t get into the house until 4:00 in the morning, so that pretty much sums up the night that I had. Good times, goooddd timmmesss.

Prom date?

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:06 am
As of 30 minutes ago, I now have Dyamond for a new prom date. For the past month I was suppose to be taking my friend Vanessa on prom. Vanessa and I aren't dating, but we're friends. Ever since we agreed to go on prom together, I have been asking her about her dress and if she has found something that she liked. For the past couple of weeks, I did not want too seem like that I was bugging her, but time is running out I and needed to know whether she found a dress. Plus, the down payment for prom is due tomorrow and I wasn't going to pay for her ticket because I felt as though she became disinterested in attending. Every time I would text her about prom and ask her about her dress, she wouldn't respond. Last Saturday I received a text from Dyamond asking if I wanted to be her prom because she didn't have anybody to go with. I told her that I would check on Vanessa to see if she still wanted to go during the week and I'll let her know. Tuesday night arrived and I was texting Vanessa. We were texting for a good hour or so. That's when I asked her if she found a dress or not. As expected, I didn't get a response back for the rest of the night. That's when I decided that I would just ask Dyamond if she wanted to go on prom with me. Fast forward to last period, I asked Vanessa one more time if she wanted to go on my prom and if she had a dress yet. Of course, I didn't get a response. So i texted her back and just told her that I was going to take my friend Dyamond instead. This is what she texted back, "Alright Tajh, I meant to tell u that my mom said that she not gonna be able to afford it." When I read that I wanted to cuss her out badly, but I decided to be an adult about it and not cuss her out. I just simply texted back "You could have told me that earlier but it's cool." Now she keeps apologizing and I just don't really care no more to tell you the truth. At least at the end of the day, I have a date and I'm happy with the person I'm taking because Dyamond is a good friend of mines.

Quarter 3 Benchmark

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Reflection:
The countries that I selected for this benchmark are Australia and Madagascar.
My process was ok. I feel like I have more than should actually have on the benchmark. The frameworks were straightforward. The only 5 point framework that I thought was difficult was "hostile neighbors." It was kind of hard to research this particular framework because I wasn't exactly aware of where to go to find information. The other 4 frameworks weren't hard to research. The problem was choosing the best source to use information from. If I could change one thing about my product, I would lessen the amount of words that I have. I think that I wrote a lot. Overall this benchmark was not difficult, but I didn't really enjoy doing it. It took me a while to actually start the benchmark, but I hope that my finish product doesn't reflect that. Putting my project together of a Pages application was simple. I just had to make sure it was organized and the layout had to be nice.

Benchmark Reflection

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 10:30 am
I am a little behind in starting the benchmark, but I have made a twitter account for the main character in my story. I have not yet  posted anything on twitter at the moment but I will start that tonight. I'm am still trying to figure out how to start the benchmark in terms of what part I should start tweeting from in my story. Th beginning of my story is sort of a flashback and I don't know if I should add that part yet. I still don't know if my benchmark will take longer than the rest of this quarter to finish. I haven't really been focusing on this benchmark as much because I am backed up on a lot of work. Starting tonight I will start to put more of my time into this benchmark so I can have a good finished project.

Everyday James came home he smelled Ashely's food on the stove and she would clean the entire house, wash the dishes and the clothes. Whenever they went out they, the both of them did just like they were suppose. Always looking good for the public while leaving the drama in the Rolls Royce. That was the choice of car that they drove in. Ashely decided to get high sometimes because James was always doing it. In the hallways of their house they were always having sex. Each time felt like the first time. Whenever James was stressing because of work she would take away of all his pain and make it lesser than dirt. That why she has James, and he will always keep her around.

He had game since he used to hoop in his driveway. Neither the ghetto nor defenders could trap him. For sure people that labeled themselves as his friends would act as though they had his back. He was living a live that they couldn't fathom. Colleges tried to get at him by recruiting and handing him all different types of scholarships. Even though everybody knew that he'd leave college quick for the pros. Haters called him the one from the hood that was chose. Others identified him as the black rose that grew in the jungle. Little that they knew, he was just a humbled kid thrown into the spotlight. Everyone wanted a piece of him. All different types of women gave him troubled love. The kind of love when you up they down. Because you can dribble a ball, they come around. When you win, they see it as their crown. Dudes that had known him for years, people that he shared beers, cheers, and tears with choose different careers. When he made it to the league the money and the fame came, and those same dudes did not know how to react. Once he came back home to visit, those same people he grew up with shot him in the back.

Dark Skinned v. Light Skinned

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:12 am
Nate had a chip on his shoulder that was big enough to feed Cambodia. The things is, he never could fit into light skinned girls quotas. His sneakers never fit and his knees needed a lot of lotion. All this before he even knew the significance of a comb. His immigrant parent made him feel as though he was a step kid. His dark skinned didn't allow him to fit in with the light skins. The way he saw it, the lighter their skin, they better that they're life was. So he did what any kid in position would do, he resented them as they resented him. When he happened to find a light skin girl that was interested in him, he cheated on her. Her name was Chantel. Nate was just 17 at the time. He'd figure that he should hurt he because she would evidently hurt him along with all the other women with light skinned features. Never would he let a light skinned girl hurt him. That whys he stroked first because the first cut is deep.

I didn't know how good this would be, until I got here now I never want to let you leave. We had had some good times on those tiny little islands and hanging out on the beach. It was you and me and me and you all summer. We were in Miami Beach, in Collins Ave, living the good life and living it fast. Steady sipping mojito's and patron margaritas. I was always wasted, and you were wasted too. I loved being wasted and the things that it made us do. Every time you called me baby, I thought about us making a few. Then we would be on our way to Jamaica too. Living the life, living it nice. When you were living with me, you were living life right.

Basketball Withdrawl

My favorite basketball team, Miami Heat, have lost 4 games in a row. Yes, they are losing games right now, but its how they are losing that is the even more troubling part. In each of the teams past four loses they have blown big lead in the third or fourth quarter. They have also yet to find a way to win close games (games decided by 5 points or less). It was reported that after yesterdays lost, player were crying in the locker room. How can they play this poorly with three superstars on their team? Will they tun it around before the playoffs? We will have to wait and see. Until then, let the games continue.

Senior Year on SLA's Basketball Team..

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1:49 pm
My senior year on SLA's basketball team didn't turn out how I expected it to. In the beginning of the season we had high hopes of being the first version of the schools basketball team to make the playoffs in our 5 year existence. We had a great start to the season winning 3 of our firs 6 games. As we approached a big game against Carroll we we ready to solidify our playoff spot. That was until a snow day came and cancelled our game. We went on to only win one more game during the season and not in the playoffs. I enjoyed my time as a member of the SLA Rockets since my freshman year. There are a lot of memories that are instilled in me and times that I will never forget. I believe that the team is in good hands for the future and that the current players will take this team to where its never been.

3 Important Things in my Life..

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1:34 pm
My grand mom has been very instrumental in my life. I was I never was really a mommy or daddy’s boy. Instead I loved to spend time with her. As I was younger my grand mom always brags about how she was the first person that I laid eyes on when I was born. What I love the most about her is when she called me to come stay at her house for a period of time. I loved spending time at her house because being there brought a lot of fun times to my childhood. One time my grand mom had set up her own edition “Fear Factor”. I competed against my cousin and little brother as we ate a mix of foods that she created. We were blind folded so we didn’t even get to see what we were eating until after it was over. My cousin won the competition but I didn’t care. I was just excited to be at my grand mom’s house while having fun. Other than my mom, my grand mom has been the person that has influenced me the most in my life. I never felt scared to come to her about anything because she always was that person who would never judge me about what I’m feeling and we understood each other. She has always kept me on the right track and I will always dedicate my success to her.

Basketball has played a big part in my life as well. Besides going to school and having fun all I did when I was play sports as a kid. I played organized basketball and football. Basketball is more of my sport, and I learned that after one season of playing football. Since I was three, I have always had a passion for basketball and to this day until forever, I always will. The first time I picked up a basketball I couldn’t put it down. When I was four or five year old I would always go to Marshall States Park. My uncle would teach me the basics of how to play the game. As I got older and better I would always play him and my friends one on one. I would never forget the times when I would go to the park with my uncle because he taught me everything I know. He pushed me to become better and he would always rough me up. I think that basketball has taught me how to interact with people. I would always go to the court and make friends. I have built a lot of social skills on the basketball court that will for sure follow me through life.

The best experience of my life so far has been my time at my high school, Science Leadership Academy. The first day of school was a day I will just always remember. Nothing really exciting happened, it was a good day and it was just an opportunity to get acquainted with my teachers and my peers that I would be spending the next four years of my life with. I had never looked forward to a new experience as much as I did this one. I remember the first day of my ninth grade year like it was yesterday. I woke up that morning filled with so much energy and anticipation. I showered and dressed quickly, grooming myself as if it was my wedding day. My bus and train ride to school went relatively smoothly. As I got off the trolley and walked to school, I had found myself already making a new friend. He was a 10th grader named Jefferson Cauvin. We talked about the school and what I should expect.

When I stepped into the doors of SLA for the first time, my body took on a rush of excitement. Jeff introduced me to some of his friends and I had already felt as though I was apart of the SLA community. I got acquainted with my teachers and I became friends with many people. Little did I know that this day was the start of my legacy as a person and student. My experience at SLA has been like no other. Even though I am about graduate, I am still learning myself. My school has prepared me to succeed under any circumstances. My life story is just at it's beginning and I believe that I have no ceiling in terms of being successful as long as I stay focused and work hard.

What did I do all weekend? Watch The All Star Festivities!

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1:28 pm
NBA All Star 2011 was one of the best all star weekends in a while. The weekend included Justin Bieber winning the MVP in the celebrity basketball game, the Atlanta Hawks winning the Haier Shooting Stars competition, Stephen Curry won the Skill Competition, James Jones won the Three Point Shootout, and Blake Griffin won the Slam Dunk contest by dunking over a car. The Western All Stars capped off the weekend by beating the Eastern All stars, 148-143, with Kobe Bryant being acknowledged as the game's MVP after scoring 37 points. It will be hard for next years All Star game to top this past weekend's. But like any all star weekend, I can't wait.

Where is my favorite place to get lost?

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 9:08 am
My favorite place to get lost has to be at my neighborhood basketball court called Marshall States. Even though it’s just down the street from me I feel as though that the court happens to be my place of security. Playing basketball is one of my passions, but Marshall States offers me more than that. It’s where I go to think about my life and to just get away from everything going on around me. I have been going there ever since I was a little kid and I have grown to love the place.

When I need to release some stress or some energy I go to the park. I could stay there all day and not even realize that I have a home to go to. Marshall States has provided me with some of the most fun and relaxing days of my life. Fun times have happened because I’ve developed new friendships while sharing memories with old friendships. I’ve had relaxing times because I can go there to get away and think about my life while getting some shots up on a beautiful day.

I never had a place where I could go just to feel secure and feel like nothing bad was going to happen to me. Marshall States is the only place that made me feel that way. Whether it’s just playing basketball or having life changing experience there, it has always been a place that has been good to me. Fortunately I will always have special connection to Marshall States.

Going to that park is my place to get in my zone whether it’s mentally or physically. I go there to get lost and tune everybody else out when I need a break from life or when I need a good laugh with my friends. No matter how much I get older I will never forget my place of happiness and stability was. There will never be a better environment that I can say has made like I’m above and away from everyone else. Even when I’m older and I’m back in my neighborhood, I will always back to enjoy to the place where getting lost is a regular thing.

Which school should I choose. I've always wanted to go to Penn State but after thinking I wouldn't be accepted because of my SAT's scores, I thought that Hampton was where I wanted to be. Surprisingly though, I received my first college acceptance letter from Penn State. That acceptance letter slowly changed my mindset back into "Penn State Mode." Hampton is still an option but everyday it's looking like I will choose Penn State. Time is ticking.

Hotel Party?

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in Storytelling - Chase on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 5:53 pm
I spent most of my saturday with a friend. A good friend that I have come to know better and better throughout these last couple weeks. We chilled for most of the day before I decided that I wanted to leave and get my night started. All week I told some friends from school that I would not be attending their hotel party. Knowing that I would surprise them, I decided to show up and party later on that night when I was done spending the day with my friend. It took me forever to get to the hotel because SEPTA runs super slow on the weekends. I was so cold waiting for the bus to come that I thought I might end up going back in the house. Fortunately as I was just ready to walk back to my house, the bus came around the corner. When I got off the bus, i got on the worst train ride I've ever taken. I smelled poop on the train, and sadly it was a homeless man that carried the smell with him because when he exited the train two stops before mines, the smell exited with him. I was relieved to finally not have to hold my breathe for minutes at a time. When my train ride was over, i walked from 15th street at City Hall to 11th and arch. It was so cold outside that I was shivering from head to toe. When I finally reached 11th and arch, I stood in front of the Hilton Garden Inn. I walked in, took the elevator to the 7th floor and walked to room 701. Already with my jacket and hoodie off, I heard Mckelly's loud mouth through the door. I was laughing as I knocked on the door. "Who is it?" asked Amira. "It me, Tajh," I replied. The door opened, "Brooooooo," screamed Amira with a smile on her face. I was ready for an exciting night.

Shawn and Shane hated each other; the fact that they were brothers didn’t even come in the way of the amount of hate between them, although Shawn is the older of the two, he always felt as though Shane was appreciated more by their parents because they gave him more attention, spoiled him with whatever he wanted and never punished him for the things that he did wrong, rather than talking to his parents about how he felt while he was young Shawn grew up despising his brother feeling as though he could live his adult life without seeing and speaking to his family except for only on occasions, because of his feelings, whenever he and Shane were young, Shawn would treat him badly which always led to them fighting, when Shawn left for college and went on to live his adult life with his wife and kids, he went years without speaking to his brother, until late last year Shawn decided he would show up for their family reunion with the encouragement of his wife, things were awkward at the reunion because no one expected him to show, not even his parents, at the reunion Shawn spoke to everyone but whenever he and his brother crossed paths there was silence, until his father had enough of it, their father talked some sense into the boys and told them to talk about all there issues and put everything on the table, once they went in the house to talk, a fight broke lose. Can he get her back, maybe, maybe not. The question is does he want her back. For the best of the both of them, Tom rightfully decides that he doesn't want her back. So blinded be her words and her actions, Tom never could see through her and realize that she truly did not know how to act. Never known to be a dumb, clueless or dense, Tom uncharacteristically lacked common sense when it came to his relationship with her. Time and time again throughout the relationship, she played the victim, when in reality he was the good guy and she was the bad girl. Not only was he on her mind, but so was Billy, Jim, and Bob. She gave plenty of love and attention to the guys she talked to on the side, but love for Tom? There wasn't any. He invited her into his heart on numerous occasions only to have her ride in other mens cars. He's thinking she's out with her girlfriends because thats what she told him. Without a doubt he considered her his night time while thinking that he was her star. At the end he was wrong, but as any man should he had to remain strong. Later on in life he knew he would find the one for him and she would get what she deserved for breaking his heart. It didn't take long for him to move on, but it took just seconds after he was gone to know how much she loved and wanted him back.

During Edu Con weekend a couple of my friends and I volunteered to help out and participate in the festivities. This picture represents the weekend in general and the good times that my friends and I had during the weekend. We were not only productive in terms of helping out during the weekend, but we also found time to bond with each other and have some fun.

Second Quarter Art Blog Post

My second quarter art project was all about basketball, the NBA specifically. In the beginning of the quarter I did not really know what I wanted to design.  Starting was the hardest thing to do because I didn’t have a clue on what I should do. Finally, I decided that I wanted to make a poster about my favorite NBA team, the Miami Heat. The poster is a reflection of the team and it’s three best players, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, and Chris Bosh.

The top of the poster reads HEAT across it. The right side of each letter is outlined with a black marker but the colors of the letters are painted orange.  Right beneath the letters that spell out Heat is the team’s logo. The logo is a red basketball that is painted in the shape of a flame that goes through a white ring, which is, suppose to be the basketball hoop. The end of the basketball flame is painted yellow. I outlined the lines of the basketball with a black marker as well.

To the left of the logo is a picture that I printed out of Chris Bosh shooting a basketball. The picture is in color. On the far left side of the poster are 3 concentric circles. The first concentric circle has Dwayne Wade written on top of it and it has a big 3 inside of the circle that is colored red. Dwayne Wade’s name is outlined black and red, while the outlines of the circles and the 3 are with a black marker. The middle concentric circle is the same thing but it has Lebron James name on the top of it. His name is outlined with a black and yellow marker. Instead of there being a 3 inside of the circle, there’s a 6 that is colored in and outlined with a black marker. The circle is colored in yellow and is outlined with a black marker as well. The last concentric circles is the same thing as the other two but it has Chris Bosh’s name on top of it that is outlined with a black and orange marker and there is a 1 inside of the circle that is colored orange and outlined with a black marker. The circle is also colored orange and outlined with a black marker.

To the right of the team logo there is a picture of Lebron James. That picture is in color.  To the bottom right of the logo there is a picture of Dwyane Wade, which also is in color. The last symbol on the poster for is located at the bottom right hand corner of the poster. It is the alternate Miami Heat logo. The logo is upper case “M” and “H” that is connected.  Both the “M” and “H” are painted red.   The “H” is outlined by a black marker. The top right of the “H” is a flame. Half of the flame is painted orange and the other half is red.

For the second part of the project I decided to draw a couple of NBA logos and post them on a paper. The logos that I drew were the Boston Celtics,  Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards. For extra, I drew the NBA logo. This was a fun project, I just wish I knew how to be more creative. I could have done something else.

Finalize and Extend (Virtual Child Pornography)

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 7:35 pm

For this blog post, I have decided that I will write a letter to the former House of Rep. Nick Lampson. Nick Lampson introduced The Securing Adolescents from Exploitation-Online Act of 2007 (SAFE Act). The states that anyone that offers open Wi-Fi Internet Connection to the public, that obtains actual knowledge of any facts or circumstances in relati9on to illegal visual media such as child pornography transferred over that connection must register a report of their knowledge  to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Child pornography on the internet has been somewhat ignored by the public. Unless one’s child or relative in involved in child pornography then it’s not really a big topic to people. The whole purpose of me doing a series of blog post about this topic was to raise awareness about the situation and plan an action to take against it. Even though the Nick Lampson is a former House of Rep. I’m sure that he still can have a major influence on this situations being as though he introduced the SAFE Act.

My previous blog posts have given information about important officials, authors and everyday people who support this issue that I could contact. Me being a lobbyist, I have to put my best foot forward in emailing and phoning this people so we can spread the words about the negative impact child pornography has on our children and our society. The United States needs stricter laws for this type of things. Laws that would make people think twice about anything that deals with child pornography.

The SAFE Act is definitely something that as a Nation we can build off of. I take pride in making it that child pornography is no longer a lingering problem that is under the radar. As I come in contact with officials and others, I will make it my business that I can help create if not join organizations that are opposed to child pornography and that has the same mindset as me.

I am willing to do whatever to see that child pornography on the internet is no longer an issue that no one pays attention too. If I am not able to come in contact with Nick Lampson, then I will try and reach The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the authors of the “Guidelines for Policy Makers on Child Online Protections. Both of these resources have given me information that would come a long way in me becoming a more persuasive lobbyist to stop child pornography on the internet. Letters will be written, phones calls will be made. Lets bring forth change.

Future Plans:
  • Send letter to Nick Lampson or other resources
  • Create groups and organizations
  • Join groups and organizations
  • Call The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare
  • Send letter to the authors of “Guidelines for Policy Makers on Child Online Protection”

Adoption Reflection

Posted by Tajh Jenkins in American Government - Laufenberg on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 12:09 pm

1.) Briefly summarize the bureaucratic 'task' that you selected.

The bureaucratic task that my partner and I selected was "Adoption." Adoption is a complicated process to got through and it is rather lengthy. Before even starting the steps, you have to make it a priority to learn about adoption an decided if this is what you really want. Decided if parenting is something that you my want to add to your life. At times this process can be overwhelming, but if you really passionate about taking in a child and if your ready to have a child or teenager in your life to provide for, then this is the best way to go.

2.) Give an overview of your process

The first thing you should do is learn everything about adoption. Whether it's tendencies or statistics, you should want to lean them and keep them in mind. Finding an agency should be easy. Then you have to complete a home-study, so the agency can determine your qualification before you can search for a child that best fist you. Once you find your child, you have to exchange information between you and the agency. Once your information is reviewed the agency will contact you to tell you if your are selected. If you are selected you will meet and visit the child to get acquainted, then receive a placement.  When the placement is finished you will finalize the adoption which include paper work. Finally you will be able to live your new life with your adoptive child.

3.) Reflect upon the paperwork that you needed to fill out. Was it straightforward, easy, difficult, perplexing, etc.

My partner and I were not able to get the actual paper work for adoption. In order to get the paper work we would have had to make online accounts with different agencies websites. Since we aren't really adopting, we did not want to create actual accounts and give the agencies our personal information.

4.) If you could change one thing about the bureaucratic process that you flow charted, what would it be and why?

I would not change anything about the bureaucratic process. I happen to believe that each step within the process is necessary.

5.) Why do you think the systems have become so complicated?

I think systems have become so complicated because the systems have grown and changed. Systems have to make sure that people are qualified for what they want to do. Therefore people might have to endure obstacles and complications, but if they are the right people, then it should be a straightforward process.

Other thoughts, reflections, feedback.

Virtual Child Pornography #4 Communication

Blog Post #4

 Communication

The process for banning virtual child pornography has become somewhat stagnant over the last couple of years. When I contact an organization, I want to be able to have an impact on making virtual child pornography, or child pornography in general, a topic that the government takes more notice of. In making my first approach, I want to start off making direct contact with local organizations in Philadelphia or in the state of Pennsylvania. In order for me to meet people and start speaking with them, I have to find them. The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare is a good place to start. I can come in contact in the DPW in a variety of ways. They already openly welcome feedback, questions, comments and concerns, through their “contact us” hyper link on their website. So, being able to express myself to them should be easy.

I am willing to communicate with them, my concerns, plans and actions that I would like to take against virtual child pornography. If I can get their attention, then I would like to openly discuss solutions to make it illegal, and too make stricter laws against it. Since 2005, the DWP has released a “Child Abuse Annual Report” each year. The 2010 edition hasn’t been released, but the 2009 edition has plenty of information for me to begin with in terms of contacting the many organizations across the state that have a say on virtual child pornography and child porn in general.

After I start becoming more familiar with organizations locally about the topic, I might be able to start reaching people on a more national scale. In blog post before, I talked about wanting to contact the authors who wrote the “Guidelines for Policy Makers on Child Online Protection”. The authors of these guidelines are people from across the country who have attempted to ban virtual child porn, and who are well instilled with everything that is related to online child safety. Rather than contacting the authors, I might want to take it a step further and write a letter to Dr. Hamadoun I. Toure. He is the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

I’m not really much of an outspoken person. To come in contact with these resources I could send emails, create a Facebook page, make phone calls, write letters and start a petition. If I’m am lucky enough maybe my efforts could get me to take it a step further and make personal visits with these resources and other decision makers. If I could find other people who are passionate about putting an end to this situation than I would be in a better position to succeed, Hopefully I can effectively use my tactics to a great advantage and put virtual child pornography on the governments radar.

Child Pornography Blog Post 3

Lobbying Assignment 3

Like past years, 2010 has provided it’s share of child pornography happenings. While there have been attempts by United States officials to ban all aspects of child pornography, their efforts in 2010 could have been better.

The U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder

image
“Government cannot solve the child pornography crisis in America unless it takes a broader approach than currently pursued and looks to the root causes of such deviancy.”

2010 has not been a productive year in terms of the governments efforts in banning child pornography. America is currently in a stand still in handling the situation. According to Patrick A. Trueman, former chief of the U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in the Reagan and Bush I Administrations, Eric Holder’s indication that the United States is losing in the war on child pornography is troubling but not surprising.

Patrick A. Trueman

Patrick_A_Trueman
”Our efforts today are not partisan because the protection of children, violence against women, addiction and sexual trafficking are not partisan issues. Nor are we here today to quarrel with Attorney General Holder … The Attorney General previously indicated support for the enforcement of obscenity laws. We are asking that the prosecution of obscenity, which seems to be on hold in the Obama Administration, be given a high priority because of the widespread harm we now know that obscene material is causing.

Patrick Trueman heads the War on Illegal Pornography, a coalition effort of many national, state and local groups working to encourage enforcement of federal laws against obscene adult pornography. He is also the founder of the website PornHarms.com, http://pornharms.com. The website categorizes and posts peer-reviewed studies on the harmful aspects of pornography. Studies and articles on PornHarms.com explain and discuss the brain science of pornography, which indicates that regular consumers of porn are at risk of brain manipulation and addiction leading to increasingly deviant behaviors, including, for some, an interest in child pornography

Nearly every current government official elected has indicated their support for banning child pornography. The problem is that not enough of the officials are stepping up their efforts to really making a difference on this specific issue. From what I researched, other than the two government officials that I spoke about in my second lobbying assignment as well as Eric Holder, there aren’t really any officials that I researched who has mad significant strides in banning it. This issues does get great media coverage because of all the court cases and news that pertain to child pornography. Citizens have expressed support on banning child pornography as the issue has become bigger throughout the years because of the media attention. There are multiple facebook groups that illustrate citizens tryings to prevent child porn.

There have been past policies on this issue:

  • Children's Internet Protection Act of 2000 (CIPA)
  • Child Online Protection Act of 1998 (COPA)
  • Child Protection and Sexual Predator Punishment Act of 1998
  • Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 (CPPA)
  • Communications Decency Act of 1996 (CDA

* In 2002, the Supreme Court made a decision to reject Congress' attempt to combat child
  pornography in the computer age.

Stakeholders on this issue include

  • Children and young people
  • Parents Guardians and Educators
  • Industry
  • The Research Community and NGO’s
  • Law Enforcement
  • Social Service Organizations
  • Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other Electronic Service Providers (ESPs)
  • Teacher Organizations, Academic and Research Communities
  • Government Agencies
  • Owners of Internet cafés and other public access providers e.g. libraries, telecentres, PC Bangs6 and online gaming centres etc

There are many people who are working on this issue:

  • Cristina Bueti and Sandra Pandi (ITU)
  • John Carr (Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety)
  • Raoul Chiesa and Francesca Bosco (United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute)
  • Catherine Cummings and Jessica Sarra (International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children)
  • Johan Martens (Child Helpline International)
  • Michael Moran (Interpol)

_45222476_stop-child-porn-manila466x3

I think that if I am really serious about this issue, I can influence anyone in the public to want to ban virtual child pornography. With the help of the public, we would be able to influence the government to take a more serious approach towards banning all aspects of child pornography. I think that the government does not see much of the public wanting to ban child pornography. When it comes to this specific issue, if the public doesn’t show its seriousness about the situation, then the government won’t act on it as quickly and effectively.

If I could contact the authors who wrote the “Guidelines for Policy Makers on Child Online Protection” I think that we could really make a difference together. The authors who wrote the guidelines are the the same people who I listed as the people who are working on this issue. These are people who are really serious interested in making it aware that child pornography is a relevant issue that should be taken care of. If I could get some personal insight on this issue from these people, it would really help me become more prepared to influence people who are not up on the issue as they should be. I think that I should come in contact with the authors as soon as possible.

After doing some research I have not found any recent meetings or any recent news about government officials attempt to crack down on child pornography in the future. Therefore, there aren’t any future meetings or committee headlines that I can talk about. All of the hearings that I have come across have already taken place.

Fossils: How much do they indicate? Do they tell the whole story?

Science & Society

First Quarter Benchmark

Research Question: How much information do fossils indicate about a species evolution? Do they tell the whole story?

I changed my question because my original question just wasn't working out.

Fossils are witness to the discontinuity, the complexity and the stability of past life forms. When it comes to evolution, fossils are viewed as one of the most important sources of information about the Earth’s past as well as different species past. Fossils are indicators of age (age of rocks and species and animals in which they are found), Earth movements (such as mountain building), ancient geography (former positions of continents), past environments (what the environment was like when the fossil organisms were alive), and the evolution of life (the evolution of life on earth). Fossils give us a showing of Earth’s long history and the all of the changes that it and its species have experienced.

Based on this information one would think that fossils are probably the most reliable source of evolution. That is not true. Over time, fossil records have been misinterpreted and have not been able to tell the whole story of evolution. Scientist have been able to point out gaps in fossil record history, proving that some fossil theories are invalid. They say that fossil records fail to illustrate what are called “Transitional Forms” which are the in-between stages of a creature that evolved into another.

Fossil records surely do have gaps because of the conditions required to create fossils have been rare ever since life began on earth. A small percentage of animals that have lived and died have become fossils. Many puzzles of the pieces are missing and some may not be found. With that being said, scientists have been able to discover the evolutionary transitions between fish and amphibians, reptiles and mammals, dinosaurs and birds, and lineages such as whales and horses. Fossils have always proved to show existence, but it’s not consistent in showing evolution.

When we look at a fossil it doesn’t tell use where it came from or how it was formed. That why fossils still allow us to ask questions about its origin, we can suggest answer these questions by discovering circumstantial evidences.

Artist Statement

There are situations in this world that people are not aware of. The affect of plastic bottle caps in our environments is one of them. For this art project art was just a way to raise awareness in this situation.

I do this art because it is one of the most compelling ways to communicate you expressions or situations to people. Even if you feel as though you aren’t the best artist, there shouldn’t be a reason that you are afraid to show people how you feel. Art is a creative way out of stress or anger. There might be times when people judge your creativity but it isn’t your job to focus on the negativity. Let them observe your work. I don’t think there is something called constructive criticism towards artwork because it’s how you feel.  Even people who don’t have an admiration for art can be affected positively by it. I wouldn’t doubt that it happens everyday.

This bottle cap project that we have done in art class has exposed to me how badly the world is negatively affected because bottle caps aren’t being recycled. After realizing the how bad are environments are being affected by this, I have made a more conscious effort to play my art in recycling bottle caps. It’s very evident by how we all could make a difference if we pay attention to what’s happening around us. There are so many ways that students in school illustrated the plastic bottle cap effect. There were many creative projects made out of bottles caps and other types of plastic.

Instead of recycling, people do things like throw there not only plastic by all of their trash anywhere such as oceans or even on our own street. In art class I was able to see how badly plastic has ruined animal species in the ocean. Sea animals such as fish eat the plastic that we throw in the ocean. Without even caring about what these fish have consumed, we catch these fish and eat them ourselves. Now we have plastic in our bodies and no one even notices. Other animals also eat the plastic and they end up dying from the lasting effect from having plastic in them or they suffocate from plastic such as bags.

My project was a poster trying to communicate with the school community to recycle their plastic. I really wasn’t looking for people to be wowed by what they saw in my project. I believe that there are very creative projects that people have made but their projects do not speak to people in terms of motivating them to make an actual change. I started off pretty ruff doing this project because I was so focused on how I could wow people and make them want to look at my poster first. Being as though I am not always that fond of my artwork, it was hard for me to except a project that I didn’t think was 100% perfect when it came to design. The poster that I have now was not the on that intended of showing but because of some difficult I had to make an entire new poster. I hope that my poster is worth a look and it makes people want make a difference.
