You & The World 2.0

Posted by Ashton Krause in Capstone · Reddy/Spry · Wed on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 1:55 pm

For my capstone I did a continuation of my You & The World Project, based on the rate of hate crimes and abuse LGBTQ people face. Although this was not the original plan, it was the best option because over my years at SLA I have collected more knowledge about my topic, which has allowed me to grow.

The Dead and the Decomposing // Capstone

Posted by Zoe Kwasnicki in Capstone · Reddy/Spry · Wed on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 1:25 am

For my Capstone I created a short audio and visual podcast series called “The Dead and the Decomposing”, looking into what happens when we die and how the living have decided to cope with it. Each episode had a different topic: “The Process of Death”, “Methods of Burial”, “Effects of Death on the Environment”, and “Mass Death” - including a “Field Trip” episode which is essentially a short vlog of my spring break when my mom and I poked around some old New England cemeteries.

My goal was to combine all of my creative interests such as writing, drawing, and video editing with my academic strengths: giant research papers, while also creating something fun and easily accessible (so the opposite of a giant research paper).

Jackson Shumard's Capstone

Posted by Jackson Shumard in Capstone · Reddy/Spry · Wed on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 11:43 pm

For my senior capstone project, I wanted to give back to some of the organizations in my neighbourhood that I have spent countless hours in or around over the years. The best way to show appreciation is to spend time doing something or making something for someone, which is exactly what I did. I decided to build sets of cornhole boards as they are the perfect gift for the type of organizations that I will be donating them to. One of them is my local recreational centre and a Boys and Girls Club that do summer camp programs. I figured this was the perfect gift that people of all ages can play while still staying socially distanced.

Hawa Diakite's Senior Capstone

For my senior capstone project, I was in charge of organizing and executing what I like to call, and African Resource Drive. I focused mainly on my two home countries, Mali and Cote D'ivoire, and wanted to expand to a few neighboring countries as well (Senegal, Guinea, and Ghana). My goal was to send out packages to the less fortunate in hopes of making their lives a little easier. I successfully managed to reach many families and providing them with necessities and other resources, you can see everything in full detail here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QTurYoEbYXO5zKH23Ct0R1rg1c5zenslJOuWtfPQzOc/edit?usp=sharing and my annotated bibliography here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K4flMPfzrdjCz2OcXiPBkL7BFt0xx11Ajuev_PipPfI/edit?usp=sharing

Brooke Hill's Capstone

Posted by Brooke Hill in Capstone · Reddy/Spry · Wed on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 10:55 am

For my capstone project, I decided to volunteer at my Dance school. Volunteering at the dance school consisted of teaching dance classes to the younger kids that ranged from three to five years old. For example, I taught classes like ballet, acro, and sometimes tap. My process consisted of going to the dance school every Saturday morning. From 9:15 to 12:15 I would teach the dance classes. I started off by teaching them basic terminology and steps. After a few classes, I eventually had to start creating a final product/piece. This included finding costumes for the show, completing the dances, and etc. Since the recital will not be happening until late June; I recorded both dances to include in my presentation. While teaching the young children, I learned that some children have separation issues from their parents due to the pandemic. I also learned that teaching younger children is much harder than teaching older children.
