Brooke Hill's Capstone

Posted by Brooke Hill in Capstone · Reddy/Spry · Wed on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 10:55 am

For my capstone project, I decided to volunteer at my Dance school. Volunteering at the dance school consisted of teaching dance classes to the younger kids that ranged from three to five years old. For example, I taught classes like ballet, acro, and sometimes tap. My process consisted of going to the dance school every Saturday morning. From 9:15 to 12:15 I would teach the dance classes. I started off by teaching them basic terminology and steps. After a few classes, I eventually had to start creating a final product/piece. This included finding costumes for the show, completing the dances, and etc. Since the recital will not be happening until late June; I recorded both dances to include in my presentation. While teaching the young children, I learned that some children have separation issues from their parents due to the pandemic. I also learned that teaching younger children is much harder than teaching older children.

The Striving Strengths of a Girl

Posted by Brooke Hill on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 8:55 pm

In this blog post, I will be talking about the three strengths that I have. As a student, I gain a new strength every day that contributes to my schoolwork.  The three strengths that I am going to list are the reason I am who I am today. These strengths are what helps me through school, dance, and other activities in my life. When I completed the 16 Personality test, It revealed that I was a Mediator. Mediators have a talent for self-expression, revealing their beauty and their secrets through metaphors and fictional characters, which I find true to myself.

Brooke’s Creativity:

My creativity is something that will always be my greatest strength. I am able to come up with ideas for projects, dances, art, and even music. This is a strength of mine that keeps growing with every new challenge I face. Creativity is a really good strength to have since SLA is a project based school. I am able to come up with different themes and ideas for my projects.

Brooke’s Dedication:

Dedication is also a strength that I have and still developing. There are days where I will stay dedicated to something, but once there is a challenge I start to lose some of my dedication. Besides this small con, my dedication has helped me get through many projects at school and even in dance. I think of dedication as a way to achieve my goals in life. Even now, I am dedicated to achieving good grades and getting accepted into a good college. My dedication is something that I will need for the rest of my life. For all I know, it could get me into a good college or maybe even get me a good job when I get older. It is definitely a strength that has flaws but it is a great one to have.

Brooke’s Hard Work:

I consider myself a very hard working person, especially when it comes to schoolwork and dance. In dance I have to work really hard to learn a new dance or a difficult trick. Ever since I was young, I’ve had to work hard in dance because I’ve always danced with older kids. Even now I have to work very hard in the classes that I struggle in. This is also where my dedication kicks in, since I am so dedicated to getting good grades, I work even harder to get them. I have to work harder to dance with more experienced dancers.

All of these strengths that I have are what makes me the person that I am today. Being dedicated, a hard worker, and creative have helped me with the things that I do in school and my extracurricular activities. It is awesome to have these qualities at such a young age, since they can help me grow and become a better person.

The element that I have is platinum, and the atomic number is 78. This elements name 'platinum' is derived from the Spanish term platina, meaning "silver". Platinum was discovered in South America by Antonio de Ulloa in 1735 and N. Wood in 1741, but had been used by pre-Columbian Indians. Platinum can be used in catalytic converters, laboratory equipments, electrical contacts, dentistry equipment, and jewelry.
I got the idea of making a crown because I knew that some crowns are made out of platinum. I didn't want to make anything thing that would look boring. I wanted to make something that is simple but would still look nice. The process that I went through was kind of a struggle. It was hard to draw the crown really small and to draw the jewel in the middle. It was easy to trace onto the tracing paper. It was a small struggle to put m artwork onto the plate. I didn't carve deep enough into it, so you couldn't really see my drawing when I put the ink one. After a few more tries of carving, I was able to see my drawing.

If I could do something differently, I would be more careful when carving into the plate. I would also try not to apply so much ink onto my plate. Sometimes if I did, you wouldn't be able to see my drawing but it was also because I didn't carve good enough. I enjoyed putting the ink onto my plate and pressing it down onto a piece of paper. It was really nice to be able to do this It was nice to see my finishing product.

MP1 Art Blog and Artist's Statement: Brooke

Posted by Brooke Hill in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:02 pm

Printmaking is the process of producing multiple images. Prints are created from a single original surface, known technically as a matrix or a plate. Prints are multipliable, easy to transport and exhibit. Printmaking is important because of its unique techniques. This invention reduced the cost to reproduce printed material, and as such, its creation was one of the most influential events of the second millennium. Printmaking was revolutionary because it was an easier way for artists to express their art. It is also a way to duplicate their artwork without having to redo it.

This painting shows two koi fish that are swimming in a circle. These two fish represent Yin and Yang or La and Tui. One fish is black with a white circle and the other one is white with a black circle. The artists creates space by having the fish swim apart from each other. There are lines that outline the fish and tiny details. I think that this drawing is about Yin and Yang or La and Tui. La and Tui are two spirits that took the appearance of fishes and the same with yin and yang. I think that this is a good drawing because the artist really adds in good details. They also did really well with drawing the water splashes.

I noticed that the artist added in a lot of details for the fish scales.

I wonder if the artist was just drawing it because it would look nice, or if there is suppose to be a deep meaning.

What if there is a deep meaning behind this.

Remix: One Google Slide

Posted by Brooke Hill on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 9:12 am
1 slide tech (2)
When I made my first slide, there were a lot of mistakes. I realized myself that the picture I had was low quality and that it needed to be changed. My slide wasn't eye catching nor was it clean. I was told to make my slide look like an actual sticker book instead of just a little bit. I learned that when everything is on the same level it confuses the audience and bleeding is okay.

When I was changing my slide I removed the picture, since it was low quality. I decided to add more stickers so it could actually look like a sticker book. I also didn't make them on the same level or really far apart. I made them go around my name. I was told to not put my name on it. I thought that I should make my slide look like a cover of a book about me. I decided to keep my name but change the font, size, and color so it can catch the audiences attention ( I even tested it out with a few people ).

The research that I did helped me a lot. It made me realize that plain and simple isn't the answer at all. I should always try to make something catch the audiences attention. When I did more research they talked about the font for letters. They said do something big, which is what I did. I did bleeding for my first slide but decided not to. Bleeding can make my slide look better though. It just didn't go with any of the pictures that I had. The first time I made my slide I tried to have a balance space but it didn't look good with all of the empty space. The research I did, did teach me to have a visual theme. Having a visual theme helped me get an idea of what I want to do. The sources that I used were all very useful websites. For example there was Presentation Zen, Slide Design Link, and Elements of Design Defines.

Slide: All about me

Posted by Brooke Hill on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 1:37 pm
1 slide tech

When I was making my slide. I decided that I should have at least a picture of myself. I decided to do a dance picture because I can still talk about it. Once I put the picture in the slide, it looked plain and boring. I tried to add different backgrounds, but they didn’t look good. I then decided to add a few pictures of things that I like or found cute. I had a bunch a pictures to choose from and knew that I couldn’t use them all. I started off with small images since there would be one big picture. After I found out what pictures to use, I rearranged them. If i didn’t move them around, it would make the slide really clustered. I decided to add a quote about music. The audience is then able to read something. All my information on the slide won’t be given away.My slide is not a “glance media” which I am proud about. I was not afraid to allow my pictures to bleed. It made my slide look neater and prettier.

Home Network - Brooke Hill

A) Fios is my local area network that is connected to my house by a coaxial cable. I have 3 tv's, 3 laptops, 2 phones, wii, xbox, ipad, and a nintendo. All of these devices are connected to my wifi wireless.
B) I learned that wifi is more complicated than it seems. One OMG moment I had was when I learned that WIFI is only radio signals.
C) I would tell other people to be grateful that their parents are paying for WIFI. WIFI is more expensive than it seems to us kids, but there are some parents who struggle with paying for it.
