Feliciano Hayes ILP

Posted by Britney Feliciano-Hayes in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Giorgio - Wed on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2:34 pm

I started a new ILP a couple weeks back. I go in and I help my doctor in his office at CHOP. I am enjoying this very much. I'm getting to meet kids who have diabetes like me. It's also giving me a glimpse into my future career. I am learning a lot working with my doctor and I hope he can teach me so much more.

Kopf ILP

I am working with Nat on creating a design club at SLA where people can learn about various fields of design. We are currently trying to set up the structure and content of the club and who we can bring in. We have been talking to other people in the school and in Philadelphia who have experience in design to see if they have suggestions for the club or availability to teach. So far we have been working out the schedule and trying to make sure everything flows smoothly. Recently, we talked to Leo Levi, as senior at SLA, about how he could help teach the club about programs like Illustrator and possibly Photoshop. We have also been planning activities to teach to the students about how to think about the world through a design lens and how design is present throughout our daily life. My homework is to watch the Helvetica documentary and see how we could use it for the club.

My new ILP is with a photographer on Saturdays. I go out on his shoots with and he teaches me the different skills with the camera. I decided to switch from my old ILP because I feel like will really benefit from this one more. I would be interested in pursuing a career in photography and these skills will really be useful.

Nat's ILP

Posted by Nathaniel Hilton in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Giorgio - Wed on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 2:20 pm

Kate and I are starting up a design club, which has been moving comfortably. We recently met with a fellow student named Leo to see if he could teach any classes on Photoshop or illustrator. We came up with a list of helpful meeting ideas ranging from movie watching to introductory design lessons. We are currently working on a way to build up design skills at a steady pace, we don't want the participants to feel flustered or anxious at the speed of information. I am also trying to meet with C.H.A.D. to learn more about their design club, I left several voicemail with my contact information.

First ILP Class

Posted by Jorin Gerveni in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Giorgio - Wed on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:45 pm

For my ILP I am taking a Law Class in school. So far the law students talked about the amendments and real life situations. Then we gave real life examples and how we would personally act on those situations. It is very interesting and it really gets us thinking because we talked about things we could use if we get into those situations. I'm really enjoying my ILP and I hope I get to learn more about law.

Internship #2

Posted by Britney Feliciano-Hayes in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Giorgio - Wed on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:39 pm

Nothing has really changed in my internship. I answer calls in the office and do homework when there's nothing to do. I get some pretty interesting calls sometimes. I also learned SLA is opening a middle school, and I was very surprised because I didn't even know that was happening.

ILP

For my ILP thus far, I have spent the time at the organization I work for (ARC) and just really taking the time to organize paperwork out. Things can get confusing with so many parents in this program and information can get mixed around. It is my job for a while to make sure that everything is organized and put in the proper places. I also have been shredding paperwork that is not needed anymore so that no ones information is laying around anywhere and not needed. Overall, I enjoy what I am doing this far with helping out the organization and looking forward for more opportunities I will have for being the extra hand.

ILP @ WPEB

Ms. Ali emailed me the options for ILP and I emailed her back saying that I was not interested in the options. I had another option open for me that is more convenient for me. One of my friends, Lydia, said she could help me find an ILP where she was interning at which is a radio station in West Philly. She mentioned how the option was open if none of my other ideas worked out. I talked to her and she gave me the host's email, Ms. Renee. I emailed her asking if I could intern there as well and she emailed me back confirming that I could. I was supposed to start last week but Ms. Renee canceled. I will be starting MY ILP this week Wednesday. I am looking forward to meeting Ms. Renee.

ILP Progess!

Posted by Destiny Patton in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Giorgio - Wed on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:44 pm

After some searching and e-mailing I've found the perfect ILP for me! I searched the list and came across Philly Aids Thrift. I got in contact with the volunteer coordinator and I we worked out something. On Saturday, we chatted on the phone and I can start this Wednesday! I am really excited about this because I love working with other people. Also, the message behind the store and how they help people is incredible.

This ILP will really help me get a job in the future. I will have a lot of retail experience and working with others. I'm really happy about this ILP because the store is so interesting. On the second floor, the store has an AIDS/HIV testing facility in a non threatening enviroment. I think this a great place and I am super excited to start, THIS WEEK!
