For my capstone I made a speaker with interchangeable faceplates. The faceplates have different arrangements of speakers on them so they each produce a different sound. If your listening to music and you want more bass just change the faceplate or if the music your listening to would sound better with less bass just change it back. The faceplate with more bass would also sound nice if your watching Netflix on your computer. To my knowledge this is the first speaker of its kind.

Hiding how you really feel hurts in the long run

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 8:06 pm

Comparing “The proposal” to “Taming of the shrew”

In the story Taming of the the Shrew it shows that women can be in denial about or afraid to get married. In taming of the shrew Katherine isn’t married and doesn’t have the urge to like other women. She also isn’t as wanted as much as her sister especially since she’s annoying. In the movie The Proposal The main character Margaret is an awful, annoying, arrogant person. She’s not on anyone's list to date but she ends up marrying her assistant.

Margaret marries her assistant because she needs her visa renewed or else she’ll get deported and lose her high paying editor job in New York. She essentially forces her assistant to marry her. She tells her bosses because they’re the ones that told her she needs her visa renewed or else she would be fired. But She didn’t marry him as planned. The plan was to get married and get divorced soon after.

“Of all thy suitors, here I charge thee tell. Whom thou lov'st best. See thou dissemble not.”

Act 2 scene 1

In this quote katherine reveals her want to get married. In the story taming of the shrew Katherine acts like she doesn’t want to get married. But when she begins to show interest in bianca’s suitors she gets curious and starts to rethink the not getting married idea. So she asks her sister about her suitors but she doesn’t tell her. This makes katherine a little upset and this shows her interest in really wanting to be married.

In the movie The proposal margaret wants people to believe that she’s independent and can make a living for herself.

maxresdefault.jpg

Andrew’s grandma was having her 94th birthday in their hometown in Alaska. When Margaret takes the trip with Andrew and spends time with Andrew’s family she realized how much she missed having people around her. She began to explain to andrew that she had been alone since she was 16 because her parents died. This was andrew’s first time seeing any emotion other than angry come out of Margret.

“I never saw a better-fashioned gown, More quaint, more pleasing , nor more commendable. Belike you mean to make a puppet of me.”

Act 4 scene 3

In the story taming of the shrew Katherine gets fitted for her wedding gown. She is excited because she had never been fitted for one before. She was astonished how nice it looked and felt. She also brought up the point that it’s this nice because the husband just wanted to have a one up on her. If she were to do something the husband didn’t like he could use that against her in an argument.

In the movie the proposal margret also gets fitted for her wedding dress.

enhanced-21884-1402480958-1.jpg

The grandmother gives margaret her wedding dress to use in the wedding Margret and Andrew are suppose to have. While she’s getting fitted for her dress she begins to tear up because it reminds her that she’s not really getting married. She takes a second to regather herself and after its done she runs out the store. She sees that all the things andrews family is doing for her is too much. She didn’t want the family to hate her when they were suppose to get a divorce soon after.

Both The Taming of the Shrew and The Proposal have things in common about marriage. But they’re portrayed slightly different. The confessions of the main girls actual feeling about marriage is revealed differently but is revealed. In The Taming of the Shrew it’s shown more subtle but in The proposal it’s shown very directly. Both stories show that marriage is important in life but not everyone needs to be married by a certain time and that showing your true feelings is better than keeping them hidden. It will only cause you trouble down the road.

Tony Brown Bridge Mural

My introduction to highschool

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 9:11 am

When I first came to SLA it was very different. The people were a lot different, the work load was crazy, the strange rules, having an internship that I can’t get paid for, and a bunch of other stuff. The teachers seem like they’re all about teaching rather than raising a family or trying to be friends with the students. I don’t personally like it because not all students want to even be in school let alone...  I came from School of the Future where teachers acted like real people. People you could tell were going through their own struggles. Here at SLA it seems like the teachers are always happy and jolly which doesn’t seem real to me. It's like the twilight zone and the teachers are cheerful zombies.  I feel like some of them are hiding how they really feel or who they really are to the point that their personality doesn’t seem possible. Like if someone close to them died but the very next day they’d be at school and would still make us write 3 papers and make 2 videos about some unnecessary topic. I feel like their partly emotionless in the sense that there's no slowdown in the work output and they just push on, forgetting it ever happened. For example recently my aunt died and my cousin was really close to her. My cousin is a school teacher. She took off from work for about a week and when she came back she wasn’t assigning a crazy amount of work because she knew she still had to grade all of it and she knew she didn’t feel like doing a lot when she got home.  The people on the baseball team seemed like they actually wanted to be there to win rather than just be there...

I walked into Ms. Martin's health class not knowing anyone and sat at the end of the table by myself. I had to switch chairs with the one to the left of me because the chair I sat in had a bad back piece. It bent back way to far almost to the point where you would fallout. There were health related posters on the walls but nothing crazy, it was everything that you would expect to be in a health class. A few about the body, a few about what you should eat, and a few of the play 60 posters about how much exercise you should get a day. No one had a reaction to me being the new kid. They didn’t talk to me or anything. But luckily no one spoke to me because I don’t like to start talking to people until I’ve known them for at least a week like a break-in period. I don’t want to make friends with people I barely know. I like to watch how people react to day to day situations because I hate people that blow up or make a huge deal about little things.

Before I came to SLA I had already started High School Three times before at different schools. The first time I started was at a homeschool program called Claritas. It was absolutely awful. My family and I found out about the homeschool from a kid named Jacob who was on my summer baseball team. I hated him, he was a dick and a bad sport. He always had to have his way or else he’d throw a weird tantrum and rant about how you were wrong and he was right. But at school he was same way. One day the whole school played a game of kickball at recess. Jacob decided to be the pitcher. The school went from K-12. So it was a little 4th graders turn to kick the ball. So she got up and kicked the ball right back to jacob. So since he just has to win every game he plays no matter if it takes the fun out of it for others, he decides to peg the kickball as hard as he could at the little girl. Luckily he missed and the ball got lodged in the bushes. But he was a dick of a kid. But everyone else that went there seemed to have something off about them. One girl said she had never seen the matrix because her parents wouldn't let her since it was rated R. But rated R movies are drastically different now than in the 90’s. All of them listened to their parents word for word. No one had there own personality. They never wanted to step out from under their parents to see what the world was like. Everyone had a 10pm bedtime and everyone went to bed at 10 pm. Everyone was a bunch of squares and it got to point where some days I didn’t talk to anyone at all. And on some of those days when my dad came to get me and ask about my day that would be the first time opening my mouth all day so it would almost be glued together.  So I Ieft when they went on christmas break.

The next day my dad looked up another homeschool online. My dad found out about this homeschool called connexus by doing some research online. It was a much better homeschool than claritas. It was a homeschool program that you could either do it by yourself on the computer or go to a center close to you and have teachers teach the material like a regular school. At first I was doing it by myself but a couple weeks pass and some things on the website started to confuse me, so I told my dad I needed to go to a center instead. So me and my dad looked up the closest one and found one downtown. I was happy there was one downtown because when I needed money I could just go to my parents jobs and get money from them. The next day me and dad went down to the center for our meeting and told the people what I needed help with and they told us they could help starting tomorrow. They also told us that there were two times I could come in which were eight to eleven and twelve to three. For obvious reasons I chose the twelve to three schedule. I hate waking up early. So after we had the meeting my dad went to work and I went back home. The next day I went to the center and got the help I needed and also did my classes. The people at this homeschool were a lot more relatable than the last. They weren’t extremely competitive or crazy they were just all really chill, laid back people. About six of them were on house arrest but they didn’t seem like they would do anything to be on house arrest. I found out about a program called fruity loops. It’s a music making program, I used it in between classes when I was bored. I probably made about fifty beats that semester. Then the summer hit and baseball started up which is how I got into my next school.

The next school I went to was school of the future. I found out about school of the future from one of the coaches of my summer team. He said he worked at a school similar to mine since both schools mainly used laptops. He said I would be a great addition to the baseball team. So I happily said yes to joining future. But future was a real school with a building, windows, a lot of students, fights, lunchroom, everything a regular school has. On my first day I walked in and a guy told me to go sit in the gym. I sat in the gym by myself listening to music then after about 20 minutes the principal stood in the middle and told which grades where they needed to go, where to get there schedule, and from there the teachers took over. My teacher's name was Mr. Uthman, he was an african guy. He bought us up to the class and we did a couple ice breakers to learn each other's names. After we finished our ice breakers the period was over and we went to our next class. In every class that day it was just ice breakers. The people at future were okay. There were some I liked more than others to say the least. The rest of the year was a good year. My dad helped start a fundraiser for the baseball team and we were able to afford a batting cage in the gym. We also went undefeated in the regular season but lost our first playoff game.

How has the corvettes changed

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 6:04 pm

How has the Corvette changed overtime?

The Corvette has evolved over time because...

The corvette was first introduced in 1953. The first model was made from 1953 to 1962. It was the start of the C series cars. They were almost discontinued because GM expected way more people to buy the car, but that fell short drastically. but GM stuck it out and kept making models in the future.

In 1927, GM hired Harley Earl to be the new designer. 14 years later in his work career, Harley saw that another company called Nash-Healey was making an expensive two seater car. He convinced GM that they needed to make a more affordable two seater sports car. They started the project and named it “Project Opel” in late 1951. The way they made it inexpensive is they used parts you could find in local car part stores. they would used the used the chassis from former model chevrolet cars. So they didnt have to make whole new frame design.

In the next model, the C2 which came out in 1963, they Changed the design a little bit. They made the headlights rise up out the body, they split the rear window, and they came in solid hard tops. The head lights wouldn’t be an in-body design again until 2005.The outcome for these corvettes were a lot better than the original versions. The engine of course also got bigger and better like with most new car model.

The C4 model which came out in 1983, became America's most desireable car. It was produced for 13 years. In 1986 the convertible became the Indianapolis 500 pace car. The C4 became known for its more sleek design than other cars and previous model corvettes. It was aso the first corvette with a uniframe. A uniframe is when the floor pan, windshield, halo, and perimeter frame are all welded together. In 1986 GM partnered with lotus for a new engine design to replace the stock L98 V8 engine. Lotus helped make the corvette’s ZR1 engine. The original engine made 245 horsepower at its max but lotus’s ZR1 engine made 375 hp.

The most recent Corvette, the C7, in my opinion is the best looking corvette ever made. This car has been in the makings since 2007. Which is only 2 years after they released the C6. The C7 is the first corvette to have a back-up camera and a magnetic ride suspension system. It also has an upgraded engine but it’s not an engine partnered made by lotus. This engine makes a minimum 455 horsepower and a maximum of 650 horsepower.

The corvette has drastically changed since the first model in 1953. The structural integrity of each model got stronger and stronger. Each improvement made the car lighter, stronger, and safer. While some will say as the years progressed the build quality got cheaper (using more plastic) but it was all for weight reduction purposes.

Leader

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 9:06 pm

There are always people that believe in the underdog because sometimes the underdog is a more useful thinker than the favored person.

In the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, Ralph got chosen to be the leader over Piggy. Piggy was more of a logical thinker versus Ralph who was more of an on the spot thinker so he didn’t really think about long term issues. “Piggy stirred . “I’ll come.” Ralph turned to him. You’re no good on a job like this””. Ralph wasn’t thinking about the more people the better. He only thought about piggy right then or as dead weight even though Piggy could have given really good input for their expedition. He could have even been an extra pair of eyes on the trip. He didn’t put much thought into how piggy could help in their expedition.

During his second term George Bush probably wasn’t seen as the best leader by a lot of people. But he was the more popular person, probably since he was already president. But John Kerry was probably a better leader since george bush left the economy pretty bad when he did leave the office. But people still voted for him to become president. This is like lord of the flies because ralph wasn't the best leader but got chosen over piggy because of popularity.

Piggy wasn’t seen as a leader by most of the group. From the beginning of the book he was made fun of by the other kids on the island. His original name was fatty until ralph introduced him to the group as piggy. Since Piggy didn’t stand up for himself the name just stook with him. That’s another problem Piggy has he lets people step all over him without correcting them. This is probably why he didn’t picked as the leader. Can’t have a leader that’s easy to push around. A leader should be able to tell any of their followers to do something and they do it, not just laugh at him and ignore. A leader should have certain qualities. It shouldn’t be easy to boss them around or change their opinion very easily. Piggy should stand up for himself more and Ralph should become his own thinker.

A leader should be able to relate to his or her followers. If the leader doesn’t relate to its followers either he or she doesn’t have very many followers or it just becomes a blind leading the blind situation blind.

Tony's song #2

Soy nuevo

Soy hijo de el Americas

Alzo y vuelo

No quiero tu autoridad

Solo quiero caminar con dignidad

Cansado de estar corriendo

Hablo con dignidad en inglés

Naci en la encrucijada

De ser bebe de los noventa

Y un milenario

Yo soy sin categoria

Hablo inglés con pasión

Veo el marrón

Saboreo el arroz y verduras

Toco mi cama

Oigo la risa

Huelo cada fiesta

Mi gente de piel

Bailo con los problemas

Escapo de Africa

No soy Africano

Africa está en mi

Tenemos comunidad

My ILP

At my ILP we eat pizza and talk about buildings. We mostly talk about how they're made. We also talk about a project we're suppose to be working on. It's at smith park and we're redesigning the park. We've only come up with sketches for the park so far.

At This Time

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 8:35 am

Hey, bro I need some help. I’m 26 now, and this is a very important age. This is the first step to adulthood, and every decision I make counts. My jobs determine my career. However, I want to make sure that whatever jobs I get are for me. Something I both love and want to do. Same thing for college, I want to go to a college that is the right fit for me and that I will learn a lot from. I’ve  been struggling with this decision for months now. I’ve been wanting to talk to you about this for a long time.

Yea bro, you know  I love Djing but college will also open up many doors for me. I don’t know if I should i keep djing or if I should i go to school and get a degree. Right now there is only one college that seems fit for me. It has so many programs. At least if I could do Djing as at least a major, I would be good.

What school? Oh NC State. They have many programs and classes that could expand my knowledge.

Yea I would be far away but I would still visit. You're my best friend man, you blood.

What do you mean what you have to do with Djing. It has A LOT to do with Djing. Djing takes learning and focus. Two of the things I can learn in college bro.

I mean college could be fun, you just have to have the right people around.. thats kind of my fear. Going into the Djing business exposes me to a lot of influence both of which are good and bad. College exposes me to better influence and a better atmosphere.

You right, you right, I should do whatever my heart tells me, but right now my heart is confusing me. I feel like I want to go to college. But… I love Djing so much. Ever since I was a boy. You and I used to act like we were rappers and even come up with beats and mix them around.  You’re right here it is, here is my opportunity to share my dream with the world.

But… is it also my opportunity to learn new things and make a great impression on my future career.

So you know what bro? I’m going to college, getting my education and achieving a great career.

Djing would be a great career and I could still do it part time.

But my heart is telling me that I should go to college. That’s what I’m going to do and that’s what is going to make my life more successful.

I’m 26 now and wise enough to see that going to college is the best thing for me.

Should I keep having fun because I love to DJ

Or should I go thousands of dollars into debt

Should I just keep enjoying my job

Or should I get a degree for thousands in return

Should I get use to the fun I'm having DJing parties

Or should I be miserable studying for 6 exams for the next day

Should I just accept the job i have now

Or should I go job hunting and hope to even I get an interview

Should I like meeting new people every night

Or should I get use to seeing the same people everyday

Should I enjoy going all over to perform

Or should I like going to the same building day after day

Should I like coming home at 6 am feeling like I just made so many people's night

Or should I wake up at 6 am tired wishing I got more sleep

Should I

My Languages

Posted by Anthony Brown in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 7:23 am

“Hey”

“Wassup”

“Watchu been up to?”

“Nothin much still playin for this awful team”

“Whats wrong wit it?”

“We just awful, the team is so bad”

This was early in the morning at suburban station on a wednesday. Out of the crowd of people coming up the steps I ran into my friend Jelani, like I do every morning. As all the people walked around close to a light jogging speed we stopped and talked by one of the many tan and brown marble pillars about how the teams we were on were doing. He hated his team, as usual. It seemed like every team he went to he hated.

“You playing for them next year?” I ask

“Nah” he replied.

I laughed

“Who you playin for?” he asked

“Gallagher, still” I said

“When do they have tryouts?”

“Sometime soon, I just got the email the other day” I said.

If this was a conversation with me and my mom it would sound so much different. It would be a lot more proper than the conversation I have with my friends. It would sound like this:

“Hey son” My mom says.

“Hey” I respond.

“How was your day at school?”

“Good”

“Get any homework today?”

“Yea”

“What classes?”

“Algebra and Spanish” My usual answer so she doesn’t bother me about any more homework

“Well you better get to it and stop messing around with whatever else you’re doing and start on your homework”

“OK” I say

This conversation usually happens when she comes home from work and she sees me eating something standing up behind the counter in the kitchen. But I think my language changes like this depending on where I go because I don’t want to stand out and be considerd weird. I rather just fit in and be like everyone else. I hate being the center of attention most of the time, I only like it when im trying to say something important or I just want alot of people to hear what im saying.
