Seyni Ndaw: ILP

Posted by Seyni Ndaw in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Baird - Wed on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:21 pm

My ILP is still going well. I haven't gone much in the last month except for once or twice because of illness, but when I do go my mentor says I do good work. I'm still mostly working in administration with phone calls and stuff, but occasionally I also help organize clothes or file stuff away. I think I've already surpassed the 15 hour minimum of the first quarter.

Right now my ILP is taking College level courses at Drexel. Everything is in place for my ILP to work as the first session (I cleared this with Jeremy) I spent choosing a course for the Winter quarter. I will be getting my course choice back soon and will start right after the New Year.

Right now I am ILP'ing at my mom's job. She is an accountant at a company where they organize huge sheets of metal and sell them. I so far have just helped out with little work and meeting a couple people but this week I will be taking a tour of the plant, getting to know personally what everyone does in the company; having a conversation with everyone. So I am really looking forward to doing that and seeing how that goes.

Samuel Dennis: ILP w/ Technical.ly Philly

Posted by Menduyarka Dennis in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Baird - Wed on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:11 pm

So far, my time at Technical.ly Philly has been jammed packed with a big interview, and i'm set up with a small task on making tweets on the side. So far, Technical.ly has been such a great experience for me, even if I'm working with people who are way higher than my work range. It is also interesting to engage in their adult like conversations about startups and new stories to cover. My mentor, Juliana Reyes, has introduced me to all of the writers and the editors at Technical.ly Philly, and who I get to work with. My first interview was carried put with a boy named Nicodemus Madehou. He created a video game called Turbo Finger Swipe, and I got to interview him. It was fun. Technical.ly Philly is a good ILP.

My ILP

Posted by Jessica Guarino in Ilp - 10Th Grade - Baird - Wed on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 8:50 pm

This past Wednesday, 10/14, was my first day at my ILP and I really learned a lot in the short time that I was there. My ILP is at the VCA Cat Hospital of Philadelphia, working with my host Dr. Aimee Simpson. Since last week was my first time there, Dr. Simpson had a college student that was also interning give me tour around the hospital and I got to meet a lot of the people that worked there. I’m looking forward to going back and learning more about what they do there, like with the dentistry. Something that stands out to me is how the cats acted around me and in certain environments, like the boarding room and when they are getting ready for surgery. Besides that, everyone there is really nice and the cats that I’ve met so far are just as sweet. I can’t wait to go back and learn about what vets do so that I can become one later in life.

Samuel Dennis: ILP w/ Technical.ly Philly.

I recently landed an ILP with Technical.ly Philly, a news source website that connect other organizations and companies by writing different stories about them. My mentor, Juliana Reyes, has been guiding me since I started 4 weeks ago. Reyes is a committed writer to Technical.ly, and writes for multiple media sources. It has been a blast, and Technical.ly is moving to another location soon. With one story published already on their website, I am looking forward to publishing even more, and becoming a skilled writer along with everyone else I work with. With Technical.ly, I will be able to understand more about rh Philadelphia tech community, and I'll be able to change in ways that will benefit my writing and social skills.

Lyle: ILP

I have recently obtained my ILP working with a sound engineer at WXPN, but I have not yet started interning for them. I have been working to figure out what I wanted to do for my ILP over the past couple weeks, and have had my share of ups and downs. I began by thinking that I was going to intern at a recording studio, but instead found out that they could not accommodate my services for the time being, so I went on a search to find out what other options were available. I then stumbled across an opportunity at WXPN, where I would be able to learn some engineering techniques that they use in the music business. Since I haven't started my ILP yet, I have not had the opportunity to see what it's like yet; I'm excited to get started!

Hadleigh Stammers ILP

I just figured out my ILP a couple days ago and have not gone yet. For my ILP I am going to be volunteering at my old elementary school; Russell Byers. I am very excited to go back and help out because I have had so many great experiences at that school, and am truly interested in doing anything I can to help my former teachers and mentors. I will be going next week for the first time!

  •  What went well?
So far I am learning how to be responsible, so when I take the the kids to their classrooms and things of that sort it goes well because I am learning how to be responsible for people.
  • What are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to continue you on helping around the franklin.
  • What stands out that has happened so far?
What has stood out to me is the amount of trust my mentor has for me.
