Media Fluency

My background was black and the photograph that I used varied between different shades of light blue, making it stand out from the page. (Light-dark combination is a type of contrast style mentioned on presentationzen.com. )

This was strategic because I was going for something simple that would be memorable.

While creating my slide I tried to  take into account that sometimes, space says just as much as words. And f

ollowing the rule of thirds, the photograph and words are placed to take up a balanced amount of space.

That having been said, I chose to leave my slide for the most part wordless, because

it wasn’t necessary to accompany the photo with a lot of script.

Each of the letters were individually placed at even spacing because, to my knowledge, Google Docs (drive.google.com) does not offer a kerning option. Also they are size 85pt and about the same colour as the lightest shade of blue in the photo, emphasizing the contrast.

Based on the critiques from my peer and Ms. Hull, I made the font slightly larger and centered both the image and the script so that the slide would feel more balanced. Also, I experimented with shadows and different color combinations, but in the end kept true to my original theme.

Before starting the slide, I read over the Presentation Zen to see how the slide should look like. At first I wasn't sure what I should put on the slide to talk about myself. Once I decided what to do, I had to figure out how I was going to organize everything I learned in the Presentation Zen. I had gone through a few different arrangements before I settled on this one.
I tried to use all of the elements of font, background, pictures, and colors to create the project. When I typed everything up, I tried to make the font big so that you could see it from anywhere. It also would grab your attention quickly. I also had the fonts in colors that contrasted each other. I wanted it to all flow together into one. I had the background big so that it bled off the page. I also left some empty space to balance the presentation.

After presenting the slide to the class I learned a few new things. I needed to not create to give some space between the edge and the words so that it does not seem uncomfortable to the eye. Also you need a contrast so that you can see the difference between things. Another thing I learned is to have everything cohesive; you can't have like four different random things.

My presentation is very simple. There is a tough looking baby. This shows that I’m still young and that I should try hard on everything I do. You may notice that there isn't much  text here. My big picture is on one side and it is very large so it can attract people’s eyes first. The text is on the opposite side. The word, “Success,” is the second biggest on the slide so it should be the second thing that attracts people’s eyes. I only use one word to describe me because I want  the other components to represent me and flow on my slide. I learned that you shouldn't have much text on your slides because you want to be the one teaching. I also learned that by over sizing the picture on the slide it can also attract a lot of eyes. Thank You!

After the feedback that my friends and Ms. Hull gave me, I learned a few new things that I can improve on my new slide. I made sure that my text are not too far or close to the slide and that it is comfortable to see on the screen. In my last slide, my picture was very pixelated, so on my new slide I edited it to make it look very neat and clear. I chose to overlap two text because it gives it more than one color and it stands out more . I chose those following colors for my text because it matches with the color of the sky in the picture. I use the rule of the thirds to line everything up, but the far left side is empty because I think that there was already little space for text. So if I add text on it then it would look very tight. Thank You!

Media Fluency Slide About Me!

1 SLIDE ABOUT ME Tech

Hi!

My name is Ari, and this is my slide! I believe that this slide very accurately represents me as a person, and my knowledge of design. When I created my slide, I had two goals: simple and easily understood. I used my research about slide and poster design to make the best slide I possibly could.

At first I had a different design, however there was not enough emptiness in it. I realized that there was just too much happening in the slide. So, I focused on one part of me to describe. I made sure that the elements were evenly aligned. I did this by keeping in mind the rule of the thirds. Since the background is so colorful, I had to make sure that the words contrast the background. That is why I made the letters white with a black background. I also made sure the proximity and size of the words were properly adjusted so they were not too overpowering.

I hope you enjoyed my presentation, thank you!

As you can see, I changed my slide. I learned a lot from my presentation, and other peoples presentation. I learned that the kerning should even through out. Also, I needed to take away the tangents from the letters and the boxes. I also learned that you should have the words in the picture either completely contrast the background, or it should match and correspond with the background. That is why I made the changes I did.

My Home Network

In this unit we made diagrams of are home networks and how are devices get the internet. In this diagram the internet provider is Comcast. It has a Ethernet cord that connects to a wireless router. The wireless router is then connected  to multiple devices which allows them to access the internet.

Home Network Diagram

The 9th grade red stream had to create a diagram of our home networks. We learned how the internet runs through our homes and the path that it travels to get to our devices. My family gets our internet from a CLEAR USB that gives off WiFi when plugged into our laptops. Then we use the WiFi on our phones to access the internet.

This is a diagram that shows how the internet works in my house. My internet provider is Cavalier DSL. The internet comes in from the phone line. We have a wireless router that all the devices in my home connect to. The reason we made this diagram is so we could understand our home networks. If we understood how our internet worked it would be easier for us to learn and understand the rules of the school network.

My Home Network

The diagram I made shows how the internet works in my house. The internet comes from a converter that's located in my basement. A cable that is connected to the converter box goes through my house to the second floor where the Wi-Fi box is located and connected to the computer box. All our devices connects to that Wi-Fi and we are able to get a connection from anywhere in our house. Our internet provider is Verizon Fios. We made this diagram to have a clear explanation on how the internet works in our household and in general. We will also do further research on this topic in the future.

My Home Network

In this LucidChart image, I am showing my home network. It shows the price of all of the things in my home network. It also shows how everything in my house is connected. To do this project, we had to learn a lot about our home and school networks. We learned about the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and made our own. We also learned about how the internet works, and this all links back to our connected network. The first quarter of Freshmen Technology has taught us all about the internet and connected networks, as well as their rules. Using this knowledge, we have created this home network image.
