The Garden Of Eden, By: Ernest Hemingway // The Club of Eden

The Club of Eden has made their first edition of their podcast series for the novel The Garden of Eden public! In this series, the conversation will be centered around literal and figurative meanings, literary lenses, and the author's intent. In this first podcast we focused on the events in the first nine chapters of the book. Looking closely into the literal and figurative meanings throughout the plot we uncovered symbolism Hemingway purposely included which had an effect on our perception and theories on the rest of the novel. We included direct evidence from the book to enrich the understanding we have of the book and the intentions of each character. In the next podcasts we will uncover more of the novel and raise more questions which we will answer as we go!

The podcast was nice and clear and really nice music choice. It was pretty relacing to listen to and I enjoyed most of the podcast. The echo in the background was a little distracting for me, but I really thought it was cool that you guys included One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Great Gatsby books in your discussions too.

I learned the basic plot of the book and the main theme which was identity specifically through gender. The cutting of the hair seems to be important symbolism, I thought it could possibly represent her cutting off a part of her that she felt was out of place. I thought the tone was a bit sad, I didn't feel it had to be. I liked how interesting and engaging the whole thing was.

I liked the technique that you used in the background, as it seemed to keep everyone's voice well harmonized. Like what Lucien and Eric said, not only did the music entertain me, I also saw it as a method of engaging with what is said in the podcast. Keep up the great work!

Dear God Turn The Reverb Off. It makes it seem like we're having a fine dinner and you're at the end of the long table except the long table is 200 feet long and we're in a giant crystal palace. Or maybe don't, Eric was right, it keeps you a bit invested. I enjoy the natural conversation and the in depth conversation you bring, v nice

The music had me cracking up. Strangely it kept me immersed for some reason and added this unique character to your podcast. I definitely gained the basic plot form the book and learned some techniques I may want to incorporate into my podcast.

What I love about the podcast is the idea of using the music to play with the recording. Besides the creative part of the podcast, it is generally not "boring". In other words, there were some enthusiasm, some open questions, and thoughts, that drives the audience to listen more. Going in depth with the characters in the novel and talking about their situation, really pulled more attention to a good podcast.

This podcast is really nice! I loved the background information and the way that sets up our idea about the book. You also provided a really nice overview and some of the themes which gives us some idea of what to expect, and an overview of what you are going to speak about. The music makes it feel so exciting to listen to what you have to say, and paired with the well introduced ideas and context, create a really well made podcast. Really nice insight, you guys took on a really interesting book with a complex theme and you did a great job with making it digestible for us.

  1. What essential knowledge have you gained? There are definitely two very different sides that come of reading a story with multiple perspectives, in this book there is the wife who wants to be a boy and the husband gets upset about it and forbids her from doing so. And through this podcast, there's one side that could be identified that favors the girl's side and the other side favors the guy, and it's interesting to see things and interpret them.

  2. What did you enjoy about the podcast? I enjoyed that there were a lot of elements in the sections that they've read and there were a lot of ways that they tied in all of the sections into one and related them to each other.

  1. The essential knowledge I have gained of how people viewed others with gender changes, finding who they are, and also trust.
  2. I really enjoyed the music in the background. It allowed me to feel how the character must have felt.
