Caroline Pitone - Capstone

Posted by Caroline Pitone in Capstone · Estey/Menasion · Wed on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 8:45 pm

I´ve always been an individual wondering what the world was like and how it would run once I was on my own. In school we learn important subjects such as math, history, english, and so forth. While I always felt that these were important subjects that should be required, I always wondered how I would take on the world without any real advice. Not everyone has a companion to teach them. For my 2019 Capstone for senior year, I chose to create a website that is informative relating to what to expect after graduating high school and being your own adult. I collected answers from a survey asking individuals what they knew about information from money, savings, homestay/care, all the way to nutrition. I wanted to create this website for an easy access to some quick questions one might have while discovering life on their own. While being around high schoolers for the past four years, I´ve heard many talk about what it would mean to them to have a lecture for what to expect and how to deal with things as they grow up and take on their own responsibilities. Since the beginning of senior year, I have wanted to this as my capstone. Thinking of an idea was tricky, and I wanted to do something that could really help another student. While creating my website, I did research to collect all of the information needed for my site. I sat and thought about what would really be useful for teenagers and reflected on myself for what I wish I knew.

While reading through this link, I found that it gives information on how to pay bills on time, ways to pay your bills (including online or over the phone), and what to do in a crisis situation. Each section has short and brief description per topic. This will be helpful for me when think about my design layout, while I am trying to keep my word count short on the website. It is inspiring me to create a logical design for my website. It also is giving my information on these topics that I did not think about including before hand. I am expecting my audience to mostly be beginners, in the sense that they are just learning what taxing/taxes means, and how it is effective. This a very resourceful website since it shows all of the different kinds of taxes. It gives a list of all of them, that I can then further research. It also talks about deductions, which is a critical part in learning about the way this routine works. This website does not give super detailed description, but it gives me quick and easy things to look at in order to further research for this project. Johnson, Holly. This is really important for me to look at. I do not want my website to be all factual, but also opinionated. This is because it gives the audience something to relate to. It talks about rental scares, and what people wish they knew. Key thing, what people wish they “knew”. This is a very big deal, since this is the whole point of my website. I am trying to show what people wish they knew. It talks about being careful with decision making, and explanation as to why. With this, it will be very helpful to cite a source on my website. When kids graduate, or obtain jobs, they don't really know how to control or manage it. I’ve struggled with this myself, and I wish I knew more information about how money worked before starting my bank account. This will give me information on why it is important to teach your children about money and so on if schools don't. This information is given by someone who has experienced trouble with learning about these things. It is similar to my last source in the sense of coming from a different perspective

Caroline Pitone - Memory Reconstruction

Posted by Caroline Pitone in College English · Pahomov/Rhymer · B Band on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 11:27 pm

Adventures and flames. It was 6 pm on a weekday night. It was the summer time. The sun was beginning to set and the air was dry yet hydrating at the same time. We were at an abandoned house along the Schuylkill. As we were about to climb into it, we heard the rumbling vibration coming from the train tracks behind us. It was time. ¨Let’s go¨, Daniel said. We all dropped our bags and locked up our fixed gear bikes against the rusty fence. We climbed the fence and hopped over it to the other side, accumulating rust all over our palms, and leaving us with a metallic smell. We all waited for the trains to come, I had a gut feeling this time wasn’t a good time for this activity, I was right. We all hopped on one by one. There were 5 of us. We were cruising on the train, going slow and steady. We would wave to the runners and the bicyclists going by, and they would stare back confused. I was confused too. I noticed the train had started to increase in speed. It became evident that it was going faster than we had hoped. I looked around at my surroundings and everything began to run past my eyes as if I was in a car going 90 on the highway. I looked around and saw no sign of people. I turned around and there came Daniel, ¨we have to get off!¨, he quickly scurried, leaving me to figure this out for myself. My cart was in between another, and there were gears all down by my left, one wrong move would have been me falling to my death.

Obtaining the courage to cross the other side felt impossible. Avoid the gears, and hop off, I repeated to myself, but time was cutting short. I had to get off soon before the train began to intensify in speed. I crossed over, panicked, and looked down at the end of the train, there stood Daniel, waving. I loaded my arms onto the ladder and tested the speed with my feet against the ground. My foot kicked back from under me, at this point the train would only be getting faster. My body hit the ground of gravel, and the pebbles and stones rubbed against my skin, tearing some parts open. Looking down and no longer seeing my legs makes me grateful yet regret every part of it. I have yet to learn.

 Authors Note:

While writing about this memory, I considered a lot of Margaret Atwood's use of interpretive language in her novel The Handmaid's Tale. I purposefully did not write to be super descriptive. Instead, I wanted to allow the reader to make guesses and proposals to what I could have meant. While creating this writing, I used past tense and times, along with colors, showing that it was a very significant piece of the characters life. While keeping the matter of not being too descriptive, I kept the sentences short, while getting straight to the point of the story.

This quarter, there were many different yet similar pieces done. While doing the pieces for this quarter, I noticed that most of them were much more time consuming than from what I could compare to the last quarters. The assignments were very flexible in terms of how you created it and what it was. Many of the assignments were free hand structured. In attempt to do good work, I tried out different techniques like tracing, different styles like straighter lines, and more. I would say that my favorite assignment was on the computer when we could do whatever we wanted. This was fun because we could use a lot of different colors and different shapes. It did not necessarily have to be anything specific, which was a nice break from our other assignments. For these assignments we did this quarter, I noticed that we did a lot of sketch-like drawings. This was very fun to do since I could test myself and how steady my hand is. Overall, I would say this was not my favorite quarter, but it was memorable.

Forms of Abuse and Mental Illness

As years go by, there is still no exact reason as to why mental illness usually develops in a person, whether or not it does develop, or if it is part of people from birth. As for abuse, it ranges in many forms, such as mental and physical, and even addiction. All of these forms in one way or another affect the human brain once it is repeatedly done. Mental illness affects everyday values in a human. Average things a person deals with daily like mood, behavior, and even thinking, is more difficult for a person with mental illness. Individuals throughout the world have been diagnosed with all sorts of mental illness for centuries. Although it is extremely common to have some form of mental illness, it is typically difficult to understand where is derives from in every person. Many people argue that people are born with mental illness and it is later discovered as they grow as a  person. But others point out that many people with mental illness have had an abusive lifestyle while growing of age and developing into an adult. Mental illness can derive from experiences in life with abuse, and not only through genetics.
As drugs become more and more common, it is easy for people to accidentally get into the habit of recreational drugs. To be diagnosed, there are procedures and tests that are gone through. These tests are typically psychological and pertains to questions that are going to give doctors the ability to see what is occurring mentally.

During childhood, one is growing up and aging into the human they want to be. But while growing up in an unsafe household, brain development could be altered. When being abused as a child, it not only affects their lives, but it takes away the innocence that a child. It forces them to be deal with things with people, and sometimes being alone, which as a child is detrimental. Any sort of trauma is sure to affect a person as time goes on, and this is why abuse is looked into as being a somewhat cause for mental illness. Trauma is a sort of situation that is abrupt in the life of an average person. With ongoing trauma, it can cause depression, lack of trust, and mainly anger. Victims typically blame themselves for what happens, making the situation harder to forget. Stress in the lives of young developing children have the chances of developing smaller amygdala and hippocampi which are parts of the brain that heavily affect behavior and choices, says psychology daily. When an individual gets a cat scan, it is typically looked at for the size of the brain and structure.
If somebody was abused while growing up this does not mean that it is 100% likely that the person will have a mental illness. However the mental illness sometimes becomes an excuse for times for peoples actions. When seeing a criminal in movies/documentaries, it is not uncommon to hear them talking about their childhood. It is not unusual that they bring up something very traumatic from their childhood and say that it has lead them to where they are today. For example, Mary Bell, a women who grew up in scotland also known as a serial killer. Her mother was described as, “Her mother had made attempts to kill Mary at a young age, but instead, she realized there was extra money to be made if she prostituted her daughter.”  She was known as the youngest serial killer, as she killed a four year old and the body was discovered just a day before her 11th birthday.
As more and more people learn about this method of using childhood trauma as a reasoning for their crimes and actions, it is seen more and more as an excuse. It is researched that, “Approximately 20 percent of inmates in jails and 15 percent of inmates in state prisons have a serious mental illness.”, from a treatment center organization. Although one could say this is accurate, it is also easy to seem as though you have mental illness, in order to have a lessened court date, as well as having better treatment in jail, or even getting the opportunity to not have to go to jail at all because of this method. If it is seen as 20% of criminals have a mental illness for murder, it would be easy to differ the criminals who have mental disorders and who don't. But also, when thinking about it, wouldn't it be hard? Symptoms of mental disorders are unlimited. Symptoms could be anything from lying to excessive anger. Any form of abuse can create psychological problems to ones brains, which can often lead to mental illness.

Is There A True Definition of Love?

Posted by Caroline Pitone in English 3 · Pahomov · B Band on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 12:09 am

Is There A True Definition of Love?

Comparing “The Taming of the Shrew” and “The Wedding Singer”

The more you know about “The Taming of the Shrew” and “The Wedding Singer”, the more you know about whether or not there is a true definition of romantic love.

Dating back to to the year of 1593, The Taming of the Shrew was written by well known William Shakespeare. This story consists of conflicts and troubles involving love and money and the expectations of relationships during that time era. During the first few pages of the story, the characters that were introduced go by Petruchio and Katherine. Petruchio and his soon to be wife Katherine, or as he likes to call her Kate, go through a rollercoaster of emotions whilst Kate deals with settling down with Petruchio, a man she would have never pictured herself marrying, until she later realizes she will do a lot in her power to keep him around. As does Robbie Hart for Julia, in the 1998 famous film about a small town ‘wedding singer’ who gets his heartbroken by Linda, his fiance, but soon finds the person that is right for him.

There are obstacles to get around with, while dealing with a break up and a new love for a women with a wealthy fiance already. While there may develop troubles in a relationship with the person that is believed to be the one, it gives room to search for another individual. This happens to occur in “The Wedding Singer”. While being controlled by another human, and getting manipulated that there is a risk of finding nobody better, this could trigger a thought to continue in a relationship even if it is not right for someone. This is seen in the play. While looking at the similarities between these two stories, there comes to be a realization that romantic love comes with many circumstances, that don't all have to do with the emotions of a person.

“Petruchio: I come to wive it wealthily in Padua;

If wealthily, then happily in Padua.

(Act 1, Scene 2, Line 76-77)

While reading the play upon the topic of marriage and so forth, it is clear to see the certain aspect of what contributes to marriage a great deal. While feeling the need for companionship, it is expressed as almost near impossible to have a happy and healthy life in a marriage that does not generate a great quantity of income. Petruchio is said to have traveled to Padua, Italy to find the perfect spouse. Katherine is then arranged to marry Petruchio, and Petruchio heavily expresses the importance of money from the beginning of interaction.

In the movie, “The Wedding Singer”, main characters Robbie Hart, and fiance Linda, were thought to have fallen in love. As their wedding date that Linda purposefully missed, she came to Robbie the day after with some thoughts that she had to express to him. She came to a realization that Robbie was not as amazing or succesful the way he was when she first met him when he was the lead singer of a band. She comes to the conclusion that she will never leave the small quaint town they currently live in if she stays with him, which frightens her. While Robbie tries to make her see clearly about their true love, she then goes on about saying, “While you're off doing wedding gigs at a whopping 60 bucks a pop?” to Robbie, when discussing their income. Linda strikes the conversation upon the topic of money. The thought of money in her head conflicted her thoughts of love and happiness. As does Petruchio while he does not so much care about the love, but the happiness that comes with being wealthy as a unit in marriage.

“He'll woo a thousand, 'point the day of marriage,

Make feasts, invite friends, and proclaim the banns,

Yet never means to wed where he hath wooed.

Now must the world point at poor Katharine “

(Act 2, Scene 1, Line 15-20)

While Katherine thinks of the marriage between her and Petruchio, she thinks about everything leading up to it. Such as the embarrassment casted on her during the time of waiting to become husband and wife. From interpreting this line said by Katherine, it is seen to show her great concern for their future and compatibility.

After Robbie and Linda end, he starts falling for this women named Julia, who he met at a Bat Mitzvah. Later being told she has a rich fiance named Glenn, he instantly becomes sad. Feelings begin to develop for her while he cannot do anything to stop the marriage between Julia and Glenn. Robbie soon realizes that Glenn constantly cheats of Julia. He is outraged but does not have a right to act on the situation. While Katherine has concern for her relationship, she is not able to control it. Just how Glenn understands that Julia has no control over him and what he does during his free time. Since both of these concerning situations would be fixed if the other person had some sort of control, it allows the argument to come through to think about how control is thought to be necessary through a relationship in order to keep a healthy one. It develops the idea that true love can last as long as there is control on both ends for what each person wants out of eachother.

Katherine: “Then, you need a second (and possibly a third) set of comparisons: play, movie. Play, movie. Don't forget to use a larger font!

Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper,

Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee,

And for thy maintenance commits his body

To painful labour both by sea and land,...And place your hands below your husband’s foot,

In token of which duty, if he please,

My hand is ready, may it do him ease.”

(Act 5, Scene 3, Lines 140-183)

In the end of the play, Katherine realizes that she wants Petruchio in her life. In the beginning, Katherine acted in such a way that it was never expected of her to think of life with a man was necessary. Although towards the end, she contemplated what life would be like without a man and expressed to her fellow family that everyone needs a husband in order to be happy and to have security in life. She promoted the idea that women should look up to her man, and for the most part kiss the ground he walks on, interpreted by when she passionately said, “and place your hands below your husbands foot”. In the beginning of their relationship, Petruchio does many things to lessen her as a person. He starts off by calling her Kate instead of Katherine to make her angry. After treating her in a very bad and manipulative way, anything kind that he would do would seem as though it was the greatest moment to occur.

Very later on after Robbie and Linda break off their relationship, Linda comes back to Robbie. Robbie comes home drunk and sees Linda waiting for him on his step in a very seductive outfit. After seeing Robbies vulnerability, she expresses that she misses him and needs him back. The morning after, Julia decides to go to Robbie's house to express her feelings about him and say how she loves him. Linda then answers the door in Robbies oversized Van Halen T-Shirt. Julia automatically feels unwanted there and rushes to Glenn begging to hop on a plane and get married. As it is in that moment, Julia felt powerless in the situation, she turned to her option that she no longer wanted which was Glenn. This scene displays how easy it is to let go of someone you truly care for when something goes on that is not what was wanted from the other partner.

The similarities in expectations for relationships and love in “The Taming of the Shrew”, and “The Wedding Singer” still are apparent even centuries apart. As time develops in the lives of many individuals, it has the power to make people realize their love for one another, and the shame for one another. Love is never a real argument. Although one has the ability to say it, it is very easy to mess around with that statement. With so many things that balance out a successful relationship, the concept of ‘being in love’ can not be determined as real.

Art Presentation - End of Quarter

Posted by Caroline Pitone in Advanced Art · Hull · x2 Band on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 12:26 pm

This quarter, I did many different art pieces for each individual assignment. We focused on things from shading, to mainly just color. While doing my pieces this quarter, I hit some hard bumps along the way. Most assignments were meant to be very accurate and intricate. There were not many assignments that were very free hand, which was very challenging. I tried to approach each assignment with a positive outlook on everything and do each one in a creative manner. The outcome for each assignment was very different each time. Which is something I am not very used to. I used to have one way of how I wanted the pieces to be structured for each assignment that I did.

It was really fun to do new things that I have not previous done, for example the mandala assignment. I did not realize how hard it would be to create a mandala until I started attempting to draw one. A lot of things had to go into it when thinking about the shapes, lines, and colors. It was one of the more time consuming assignments. I think that one the most difficult assignments was the bicycle. Although it does not sound all that tricky to accomplish, it is. There are so many structural elements in a bike that made it very challenging to interpret onto a sheet of paper. It was the assignment I was the most unhappy about. Overall, I liked all of the assignments that I had to complete. I think that this quarters assignments were the most challenging compared to the other ones which was difficult but also really exciting. Even though it was tricky, it gave room to converse with others in the classroom who were having the same difficulties and problems.

Labeled Life - Caroline Pitone

Labeled Life
While my mother was pregnant with me, she always believed that I was going to be a boy ever since she found out she was having a baby. But then I arrived, a surprise of gender for my parents, as well as a surprise of being a 22 inch long baby with a full head of hair and screeching that flowed from my mouth. At a time of my life of being a toddler, I would say I loved dolls and Barbies, and I loved dresses and pink, and things like stuffed animals and princess sets. I loved these toys so much, but I don't know if it was because they were marketed towards my assigned gender, or if I voluntarily was attracted to these plastic objects. I always will wonder if I still would have loved them if I'd been exposed to other toys instead more often.
As time went on in my life, my mother and father put me in sports like tennis, soccer, martial arts, hockey, and so on, ever since I was five years old. I adored these activities and they soon became the only thing I really loved to do. Things began to change a bit for me and my perspective upon things, as I started to closely inspect my environment and the  people I would be placed around during the activities I would do. I started hanging out with boys more. I observed that all of their hair was cut short in a similar style, with slightly off voices that were completely different from mine. Their pants looked larger than what their waist could support at times, and their t-shirts would cut them into the shapes of perfect boxes. Their muscles were more defined than mine and they seemed to have different nail beds than I did.  Growing up as an athlete was very life changing for me and it was something I always loved to do and looked forward to. I was always in co-ed, which means it was both boys and girls in the same sport and in the same environment. At the time, I remember usually being one of the only girls on the team. Hanging out with boys was always something in my comfort zone and it always felt more appropriate since there were never usually girls around me in a hobby that I enjoyed so much.
Everyone's sports uniforms were always the same, with the only difference of the individual number on the back of each jersey. I never saw anyone differently, as everyone wore the same thing. When it came time for dressing off the field at the age of around eight years old, I despised wearing skirts and dresses. “Why should I wear that? It isn't comfortable!”, I would exclaim on and on, while cramming in enough words in the short mornings to my parents to let me go to school in pants instead of the school uniform every little girl was getting put into. It typically consisted of navy blue dresses and a white or blue collared shirt with an added touch of just a few hair clips. This made me feel very uncomfortable with myself. “Am I just odd?”, I would think, since all of the girls around me were fine and comfortable with wearing things like hair clips and high knee socks, but for some reason my mind would go against it. I felt wrong, It was very easy to compare myself to other girls, since there were so many of them around me in the environment of school. This kind of environment was something I was not used to. I tried and tried, but it never felt correct for me to look in the mirror and see a dress, and having some sort of label pinned to me, as benign as the term “girl”, at the time.
While I played sports from a young age, I never fully self reflected on my environment and behavior until I was about 9 years old. I started to realize differences with me and the boys I surrounded myself with. I began to be judged by my team members for being the gender that I am, a female. I would be looked down upon, and even assumed to be some sort of joke for being on any sports team. This particularly happened during the time I played roller hockey for a league at a park nearby my house. Roller hockey, for some time, was my favorite sport. I played defense man for my team, and was one of the best defense man in the league. I sensed jealousy and tension between me and the team, and a slight disconnect from me and the usual groupings of boys. I noticed I was not being accepted into the team for being a girl since every other person was a boy. I figured this judgement just came because I was a female hockey player, on a mostly all boys team.
I started to feel as though something was wrong with me, and I really was different. I tried to not let it bother me because I thought it was some sort of fun joke. As I began to do some independent thinking, I realized that I was seen as different for loving sports, not liking skirts and dresses, and wanting to play with Pokemon instead of Barbies. I was not the typical girl that people like to label. I started to become very noticeable once I did something impressive in any sport. It was looked at as more of a miracle than if a boy did the same thing I did. I loved the attention I was grasping while playing these sports, but I was uncomfortable with the thought of being congratulated so highly when I know that my performance was not as amazing as people believed it was. “Is it because I am a girl?” I would always think, and I allowed this thought to float in my mind for quite some time. This subject fired up my brain power and discovered the common use of gender stereotypes and genders abilities to perform certain things. It made me believe how much of a fool I really felt like, thinking I was this amazing athlete, but only to realize it was because I was a female and I was doing things not most girls were doing at my age. When I played sports on a mostly male team, I got a lot of attention even though it wasn't always for a good reason. Being a girl and doing things girls weren't seen doing very so often made me feel small in a way the boys never experienced.I began to start to understand everything, and everything began to fall into place.
Now that I am older, I realize that gender rules are not a realistic thing unless you take into account what they are and you want  to allow them to affect your life I wear what I like to wear. I do not ever think about “do I look enough like a female today?” because I have learned that the way I should present myself is the way I feel inside. Although I don’t scream and cry once I see a dress in front of me as I did when I was a child, I realize that I do not have to do anything I do not feel comfortable as a whole.

Final Art Station - Caroline P.

Posted by Caroline Pitone in Advanced Art · Hull · x2 Band on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 4:58 pm
Final Art Station (1)
For this quarter, I created 3 art pieces that were; a ceiling tile, a fall wall hanging, and a self portrait. For my ides of art, I am mostly influenced by music, and fashion that is around me. By seeing current trends, it helps me create ideas for an art piece. Much like what I did with my ceiling tile, by drawing Marilyn Manson, as Marilyn Manson is popular right now. He is a talented artist that has been in the industry for a while. He showcases a very dark and intense side, that many rappers have seen. This has changed the rap industry to suggest that rapper are “rockstars”. This is very interesting to me, that it brought me to do this art piece. My fall wall hanging involved me in cutting out pieces of art that I drew, and then pasting them onto a colorful piece of paper. I normally hate doing pieces in color, but this assignment was fun. Originally, I drew a piece, but found out the day that it was do, that it was “C” work, so I started over. Although that was upsetting, it got me doing an art piece I normally would not do. My last art piece was a self portrait, I used a photo to refer to, of a photo my friend took of me.
For my preferences, I prefer drawing with charcoal and just pencil. But while exploring myself as an artist, I have branched out into using color. I would say I have not learned anything new about art this quarter, but I have learned about my preferences. During studio time, I spent time drawing and coming up with ideas for my art assignments. Some important things that happened during this quarter, are that my classmates and I learned how to come together and come up with ideas for each other. It was very fun to collaborate ideas together. For my artwork, I would like people to know that I tried during art that I would normally never do. For my process of art, I have to start early, in order to do everything I want to do for it. I do not enjoy rushed art.

The Environment Makes us Stranded

In William Golding's novel, The Lord of the Flies, there is a change from preppy schoolboys, to reckless and what some could say, dangerous, individuals. The british boys experience an unexpected plane crash together and land on a mysterious island. As time starts to disappear, their good habits start to disappear along with it. The boys scavenge through the island that they landed on, in hopes of a return to a natural civilization. The boys go through ups and downs, but can't these experiences change a person? This essay is going to take an inside look at how a change of environment can change a person's natural behavior into something different. Sometimes it could be good and beneficial, but others times it could be unacceptable, and a shock.

The conch shell is an important part of this book through the boys. It gives a person a right on whether or not they are able to speak and to say their opinions on a topic. This is one of the many rules declared in this book after constant difficulties with the management of their talking time. “If I blow the conch and they don't come back; then we have had it, we shouldn't keep the fire going. Well be like animals. We'll never be rescued”(page.5). The impact is causing them to act like “animals”, as said in the quote. This makes me think about their environment and what it is doing to them.  When the boys realized their situation, they started to discuss their next step. They understood that they were on an island that was off the grid.

Piggy has been known to not be a kid with great leadership skills, but on page (15), he says, “we got to find the others. We got to do something.” This was very unusual coming from Piggy. He relies on others in often circumstances. Piggy has been described as being the person to rely on everybody else. Leadership has never really been apart of his life, nor has it been in his interest. At this time, they were only on the island for a short period of time. The quick change of his personal behavior gives curiosity to how much they all developed over the time. Piggy is already doing things way out of his comfort zone.

This is similar to when celebrities become famous. These shifts from their average lifestyle to a completely new one can do something to them that could be both mental and physical. There are constant examples of celebrities gaining a lot of weight and becoming depressed.  The change in lifestyle at times, makes someone go “crazy”. Like in the famous incident of Britney Spears back in 2007 of february 16th. Britney Spears reportedly shaved off all of her hair in a barber shop, by herself. Paparazzi was all around were able to experience it live. Nobody knows the real reason to why she decided to openly shave off her hair, but people think to believe that everything about publicity go to her head. That is what slowly is happening the all of the boys with the new adjustment to this lifestyle. Not publicity for them, but location and new adjustments.

A change in environment can change a person. It is usually never intentional, but when you have a routine and it breaks suddenly, it breaks a person's mind. This can go for many things like, school, relationships, food habits, and the list goes on. In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, there are many examples of this. I don't think that Goulding didn't want to get this message across. I think this message was very purposeful and has been shown behind corners for a reason. The author wanted you discover this on your own.

Caroline's song

Caroline C. Pitone

Soy yo

Necesito mi familia y mis amigas a mis lados

Hablo con una voz alto y grande

Bailo con los nubes

Escapo de la luz cerrado

Somos productos de la sociedad

Somos de América

Hablamos lenguajes diferentes

La lengua de cultura y de lugar en donde vives

Somos differentes

Vivimos en el mismo lugar

No somos de Filadelfia

Somos parte de Filadelfia

Mis amigos y yo somos unidos y somos completos

Creative Project - Playbill - Caroline & Julia

Posted by Caroline Pitone in English 1 - Giknis - X on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 8:52 am

Rationale

We have made certain choices when we did our project, and here is an explanation for these choices.

We decided to make the illustration on the front cover of a broken chain to symbolize the Chain of Being. The Chain of Being is the hierarchical structure of all matter and life, according to people of the Elizabethan era. According to legend, an attempt to break the Chain causes disorder and chaos. The play, Macbeth, reflects on William Shakespeare's belief in the Chain of Being. On the front, we will also include the word “Playbill” in bold, in order for it to stand out and catch attention. We will also add “Macbeth” so that when the reader looks into our Playbill, they are aware of who we are talking about from the play. We will also add the words, ¨Chain of Being,¨ over the Chain itself to make it clear that the Chain symbolizes the Chain of Being. At the top, we will also add something about our stage being on Broadway.

Early on in the play, Macbeth, who is a Scottish thane and a soldier, murders King Duncan. As a result, numerous strange things began to happen, such as the sky looking like it is night time when it is actually the middle of the day, a mousing owl attacking and killing a falcon, and King Duncan´s royal horses going wild. These strange events are an effect of the Chain of Being getting broken.

We decided to show the play on a Broadway stage and include Broadway actors as the roles because Broadway is a very appropriate place to show the play. Broadway is a dramatic setting and will be able to capture all of the details of the scenes. Broadway is also an extremely popular play company. Numerous famous plays, like The Book Of Mormon, Les Misérables, Wicked, and The Phantom Of The Opera, were performed on a Broadway stage. We think that Broadway performance would be the most fitting for a Shakespeare play.

We also decided to include a picture of the theater and a description of the parts of the theater to provide an analysis of the things that affect the play. The music and lighting have a huge effect on the mood of the play. The music sets the mood for the play. Dramatic, suspenseful music adds suspense for a suspenseful scene, and upbeat music adds an extra good feeling to a happy scene.

The lighting also affects the mood of the play. Lack of lighting creates an ominous mood, and a lot of lighting provides an upbeat, happy mood. Lighting can also be used to show whether or not it is daytime or nighttime in a play, and whether the characters are in a dark room or not.

In conclusion, these are the explanations for the choices we made in our project. We included an explanation for the cover, the stage, the choice of actors, and the stage description in our playbill.  We tried to think of a good explanation for each of our choices. We think that these explanations turned out good, and we hope that they did turn out good.

Caroline's Slide

I learned from the critique of my slide that I should've focused more on the alignment and placement of my objects. I made the text the most aligned as I could and the text slightly bigger because I wanted it to be caught by the audience.

Caroline Pitone - SLIDE

Inspiration

My slide is a little different than what you would probably expect from me. From looking at it, you may be like ¨What?¨. I wrote my initials in the center and upside down for a reason. That reason is being because I always feel like my life is upside at some point. But then again I can't forget about the upsides. My sisters initials are right above mine because she's up in the clouds watching over me. My background is white because there isn't a certain thing that describes me. As time goes on, I've learned that things do change and they change unexpectedly. So I can't always latch on to something and get too attached, because it could be gone in the blink of an eye. Time is an important key to my life and living. Everything is paced. I listen closely to my surroundings like music.

Bullying

Posted by Caroline Pitone in Technology - Freshman - Hull - b1 on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 10:25 am
In class, we watched a video on bullying two times. The classroom activity was to watch the video two times with different themes. We participated in the video and controlled whether or not the victims day went well. This video reminds me of being a witness to bullying and helping the victim and actually doing something. Online I appear immature, annoying, and trying to be something I'm not. I think people perceive me as an annoying little kid. The goal of internet trolls is to make people feel bad about themselves and to mess with them. Online anatomy has a lot of negative results because you can hurt people if your identity is not shown. A positive result is, you can say nice things or your opinion and not get hated on or discriminated against.
