Koba Jaiser | Capstone - Batman Podcast

Posted by Koba Jaiser in Capstone · Giorgio/Spry/Ugworji · Wed on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 9:45 pm

For my capstone, I did a podcast on BATMAN as you may know. There’s something unique about what I did here because I took my favorite superhero and tried to figure out if I was right if Batman was the greatest superhero of all time. Why did I choose to do this well it’s been something I was urged to do especially ever since I got obsessed with video games and movies. During my childhood, Batman was my favorite superhero but at that time I was never really sure if it was him or spiderman. What I did for my project was a lot of extensive research on essentially everything having something to do with Batman, his villains, gadgets, family, sidekicks, storylines, suits, why he is the greatest superhero, and what makes Batman Batman. The point of this research was for me to find out “am I right?” or “am I wrong?” Now this was the hard part especially since that is more of a theory than a question. Is Batman the greatest superhero of all-time? I mean is he? Ok I asked that above to possibly get your opinion on the matter but from my perspective Batman does have everything that a great superhero should and more. The best villains of all time and it’s not even close because he has arguably the best villain in the Joker, but also the Riddler, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, BANE, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Court of Owls. So many great villains there’s really nowhere to begin and nowhere to end. Batman has a gadget for everything, something most superheroes dream of and to most this is an impossible feat. You’re not wrong if you think it’s impossible though. What can be said about the suits, there’s a suit for every situation every criminal has to fight regardless of what the outcome ends up to be. And finally the sidekicks man has one great partner after another’ five Robins, Catwoman, Batgirl, Arzael, James corden so many sidekicks one could say one too many for a single hero’ however this is BATMAN we’re talking about. I learned more than I could imagine about the caped crusader more than I needed but it was certainly helpful to me to gain an even greater understanding of my favorite superhero. Before this capstone I didn’t know there was a zebra batman, or that he was the flash for a brief period of time, or that bruce wayne was the first robin or that Batman is bruce wayne’s true personality of who he is and strives to become. So much that I accomplished during this capstone for starters I did my first ever podcast and keep in mind I did it by myself which I still can’t believe. All in all this was the biggest project I’d ever done and I owe it to myself for being able to stick with it all the way through because I was stuck a lot during this capstone. I hope you enjoy!

Blade Runner Soundtrack - Koba Jaiser

Posted by Koba Jaiser in Reel Reading · Giknis · B Band on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 8:58 pm

SOUNDTRACK // Redo (or make in the first place) the soundtrack for the film. Choose at least five songs that you would include. Write an explanation for each song: why would you include it, and how does the song connect to events in the film? (750 words)

Blade Runner

Something In The Way (Nirvana) - I would include this song in the soundtrack because it has a very noir feeling to it and fits the theme of Deckard fighting the replicants because they are in the way of him enjoying his life. Which also resonates with the time when his boss wanted him back but he was tired about that type of stuff and wanted to be left alone. However he didn’t really have a choice in the end. I really think this song fits a lot of the themes in Blade Runner. Personally I think it’s because a lot of the parts in this movie really are in the way of his goals and way of life.

Armed and Dangerous (Juice WORLD) - This song really belongs in the movies when the action starts turning up because all sorts of weapons are used in Blade Runner and you could really connect it to the theme of him fighting the replicants towards the end or even maybe the beginning depending on where it was placed. I think it belongs in the soundtrack because it resembles the actions of the replicants in a really unique way; they are all armed and dangerous.

In the End (Linkin Park) Ok for starters this might be one of the most inspiring songs of all time and I think for an ending song especially for Blade Runner this one fits perfectly because everything he did in the end people will just pass it by only he will really remember how important that was. Overall his story will be forgotten. This is a perfect song for the soundtrack because of how you can use it for the ending and some other sections dealing with an end of sorts’ it also kinda fits that sci-fi element a tiny bit.

Psycho (Post Malone - feat. Ty Dolla $ign) This song especially fits for Roy because the guy is a psycho living his last few weeks on Earth even though this song is kinda more upbeat there’s a certain message that personally I think fits in this movie’s soundtrack if it’s only a tiny bit however the message could be really powerful. There’s a certain feeling I get from this song. It’s one of depression and happiness, kind of a mix of the two and it works. If this was used for a tiny section with Roy at the perfect moment I feel like this would be something truly special.

Superhero (Simon Curtis) There’s alot to this song for one it is probably one of my favorite and most unheard of songs in the industry and period. It feels like something that would perfectly fit in any action scene involving good or bad. I believe it would fit perfectly with Deckard’s struggle to fight the replicants, maybe not for multiple scenes but just one or two would work perfectly if done right. Mainly because well this isn’t really an action movie but more of a psychological sci fi action drama film which however that is a mouthful it gets the point across. I really love how this song fits into the theme of action in basically every genre involving some sort of hero; it’s just something so unique.

It Wasn’t Me (Shaggy) This would be insanely funny if It wasn’t me played in the background of that strip club scene I personally feel like that fits perfectly and would be hilarious which I think to an extent Ridley Scott was going for a somewhat comedic scene because I could tell he was trying to make us laugh with the character in that scene until it switched to a action scene. I know it sounds weird me suggesting this song for a noir sci fi film but ever since I watched Blade Runner back in 2017 I could never get over the fact of how hilarious it would have been to have that song in the background not necessarily in the scene where that girl gets undressed but just the strip club when he enters it. To this day I still believe it would be insanely funny.

Lit Log #1 (PSYCHO) - Koba Jaiser

Posted by Koba Jaiser in Reel Reading · Giknis · B Band on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7:37 pm

I’m doing this movie title and poster lit log on Psycho (1960) because I feel like the poster could have been a lot better, however, this might spoil bits and pieces of the movie but it would look pretty awesome.

Dissociation - is a break in how your mind handles information. You may feel disconnected from your thoughts, feelings, memories, and surroundings. It can affect your sense of identity and your perception of time. The symptoms often go away on their own.

I changed the name to dissociate because that word means split personalities, something that is a big thing in Psycho. The element of personality is reflected a lot in this movie because there’s an atmosphere of the unknown. My poster doesn’t spoil anything for the movie but provides a simple yet complicated view of what the movie is about. Only when you get to a later point in the movie you’ll realize what the title is talking about. My poster also reflects the theme of the movie and that anyone could be in their alternate personality and you wouldn’t even know. I think dissociating fits the title for psycho because well it outlines that someone has another personality. It reflects how your mind does certain things to handle tough situations and I believe that Norman had this condition because he killed his mother and father’ he convinced himself that his mom was still there which is quite a dilemma that builds up so much suspense. The thought of being two people at once makes my mind feel strange but good at the same time because of how interesting it is to act like someone else. The poster I made this way split in half because I felt that split personalities fit the poster in a way that made it simple. I wanted to make it as simple as possible while still conveying my point of view on the movie psycho. The genre of the film is more or so a psychological thriller and is one of the most popular slashers being one of the first-ever to be a really big hit. I love slasher movies but this one is one of the few with a genuinely interesting story that kept me intrigued till the very end even if the plot midway changed. I think people would like this poster because of how simple yet complicated it is. It reflects the movie psycho well in a way we haven’t seen before. It’s a new take on psycho making the personalities the big focus. It’s the point of view that gets me and how interesting that can be because it can be so different depending on the person and you can tell the difference between the two sides even if it’s black and white. There’s nothing like watching psycho for the first time and that’s what I went through. It showed me a masterpiece of a slasher while keeping the atmosphere the same from beginning to end which is tough, especially being such an old film. So many elements here that are in other movies and shows brought me to a different place. Overall I want people to get a different perspective out of this movie poster.
