Neurolaw of Lying

Posted by Shaion Denny in Science And Society - Best - Y on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 8:39 pm

Some of the original lie detector test involved trying to use sweat and heart rates as a way to determine if someone is lying. The polygraph was the typical machine that is used to do lie detector test. While the polygraph may be know as typical and not reliable at times it it is the most accurate method of detecting lies that we have. There is a lot of belief that something happens in your brain when you lie that can be shown through graphs and exams. The way people get lie detectors verified is to take them to a court and put them to a test.

What are lies exactly? A lie is a made up state that someone attempts to pass off as the truth by withholding the truth itself. Most lies are made to either avoid telling someone the truth because they are afraid of how that person would react to the truth, or just to hide a dark secret. Of course there are other reasons people lie.

I personally believe that lie detectors are valuable and if the polygraph works now it has to be the best method of telling a lie. I do however believe that it is not perfect and engineers/scientist should keep designing better ones until one of them work. Other people of course believe that lie detectors don’t work and that everything said is a lie. Those are the same people that go on shows like Maury.

The science behind lying says that we when lying we first have to decide things like, how much trouble will we get in, is it worth it, and will we get away with it. We can’t lie more than our self worth. By that I mean we lie enough to maintain our image if we get caught. When tested studies show that people lie when it comes to money in-order to to increase their wealth. In society over 50% of adults lie every 10 minutes just because and almost 100% of children take that and begin their lying careers.

Smallpox

Posted by Shaion Denny in Science And Society - Best - Y on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10:30 pm
Science:
Smallpox are a rash on your body that turns into small bumps. After the small bumps appear they will turn into larger bumps and the final step of it caused crater like marks in the persons body. It was discovered back in the 1700's by Dr. Jenner. The way he discovered it was he injected a small boy with cowpox just to see what would happen and the result was the boy conducted the cowpox which was just renamed smallpox for humans.

Society:
Smallpox now has been completely eliminated but when it was a thing some of the ways they thought of curing it was to actually get rid of the small bumps before they enlarged. This method sort of just cut out the middle man because the people were left with crater like wounds on their bodies anyway.

Self:
Well theres not much to say I don't have smallpox and I don't plan on making it a thing again.

Shaion Denny Capstone

Posted by Shaion Denny in Capstone - Kamal - Wed on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10:00 pm

Since I was a child I was always good at math. Once I got to high school my math classes got a little bit harder and throughout them I never really had anyone there to help me when I struggled throughout the years besides my teachers. While I did manage to pass each one I still to this day wish I had someone helping me outside of class. Now that I SAT an Algebra 1 class I feel like they deserve the benefits I wasn’t given during my freshman days. Like they do I had an SAT in my math classes but my SAT’s were there for me during class and to make sure I did my work outside of it but they didn’t put too much effort into making sure I understood it. That’s why for my capstone I focused on creating a peer tutoring program so that children don’t have to depend on their SAT’s. In the program the students are paired up with other students who understand the concept they might need to improve in. These children have spent weeks with each other bonding and helping each other with math. To not only see these kids work together but to be able to provide them with an outside source for me was truly amazing. The progress that these student make is also pretty amazing. They went from a group of kids who could care less about math and just wanted to pass to a group of math lovers. I’m more than proud to be able to say that I helped these children develop long lasting friends and a love for math to go with it.

Children in the same grade/ age will be teaching each other and should understand how to communicate with their peers. The tutors will be teaching their friends and being about to talk to them is key. This site is sort of a reference for me to let me know what I should be telling those kids to do when teaching their friends.

Some students will have a very hard time understanding the concepts we will be trying to teach them. Even if 100% of the students that come in don’t have a disability this site will still be helpful. Math is one of the absolute hardest subject to retain memory about. Math for even people without disabilities is very difficult.

I used this site to help me understand what exactly I might have to deal with when attempting to tutor freshman. This site talks mostly about middle schoolers but since freshman are only one grade above that I figured it is the same concept overall.

This site was sort of off topic because it wasn’t about children understanding math or even children in high/ middle school. This site helped me understand how to break own peer tutoring for younger kids. It talks about kids in preschool and how they tutored each other. I found this very outstanding and think it will useful when explaining to the tutors and people being tutored about why what they’re doing is so great.

"Research Spotlight on Peer Tutoring." Rss. Web. 04 Feb. 2016. <http://www.nea.org/tools/35542.htm>.

I used this site to sort of break down for myself what exactly is peer tutoring and how it can be used. This site is helpful when it comes to finding out the benefits that come with peer tutoring. I received the basic information about peer tutoring through this site.

To gather all of the tutors and people who want to receive tutoring Daniel and I created a form for freshman to fill out. This form will allow us to know which children need/ want tutoring and which children believe they are able to tutor their classmates.

"Teaching Math." Interview by Ms. Chrisiss. 04 Feb. 2016: n. pag. Print.

Ms. Chrisiss teaches with me in Mrs. Giorgio’s algebra 1 class. Lately she has been teaching on her own and I was curious to know why she does it. She was able to express to me that she always loved math but it wasn’t always clear to her that she wanted to teach it to children. She went into college as a engineer major then she changed her mind. I want to use what she told m to teach the tutors.

"Tutoring Assessment." Interview by Cameron Hinton. 29 Jan. 2016: n. pag. Print.

This is my dear friend Cameron Hinton. He is a senior in high school, he has had experience receiving tutoring. I want to use his response to better understand how this will be affecting these freshmen when they go to higher and higher math levels.

"Tutoring Assessment." Interview by Arsenio Gomez. 30 Jan. 2016: n. pag. Print.

Arsenio Gomez is a junior as my school. He is a kid I have worked close with in the past and I feel like his response provide an insight into how to not only get tutoring but to also be the  one giving it. He tells me how he sometimes tutors his younger family members in things they might not understand.

"TEACH - Q&A Webinar with the Teachers from the Film!" Documentary Film TEACH by Davis Guggenheim: Q&A W/ the Teachers. Web. 05 Feb. 2016. <http://www.teacherstestprep.com/TEACH-documentary-film>.

This is a great site about how teachers sort of ban together online and to work with students who need help. I know this seems like it doesn’t fit in but it’s really helpful when it comes to understanding how different teachers work on solving problems.

McCarthy Unabridged: The Road, Page 86

Posted by Shaion Denny in Being Human - Giknis - C on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 2:47 am

This passage is the father breaking down what happens when they run out of love.

I’m sorry but there is no way we can take the boy with us you have to believe me.

What makes him any different than me?

Nothing.

You were able to take me

You’re different

How?

Because

You love me

I need you

They walk in silence pacing their steps.

Are you out of love?

No why?

That boy is alone.

We can’t take him. He could kill us.

And I’ll be alone

The man talks to the boy about the possibilities of what will happen if the other little boy goes with them. He quickly explains to the boy what a setup is and how the other boy could be the reason they die.

What if he’s like me?

What if he isn’t?

We don’t know.

Why am I not enough for you?

What’s the other possibility?

We don’t die.

He comes with us.

Then he dies.

Then we die.

The man walks away ashamed of his next thought. Knowing it will cripplekill the boy.

I die

No no I didn’t say that. I wouldn’t let you die.

And you keep going?

Exactly.

I’m not enough for you.

They share a silence and mumble their words as they finally understand each other.

I’m all you’ve got.

This is my rationale explaining what exactly is happening in my creative piece.

For my creative piece I added a forgotten/cut-out text to page 86 right after the boy finishes talking to the man about bring the other boy with them. The man in the book turns down this idea very quickly without explanation. In my creative piece I decided to finally have the man explain his decision to the boy in depth.

My essential question for this was; Is there a certain amount of love each character can give out at once? In my passage I display both of the main character's position on this by inserting things like “Are you out of love?”, to indicate that there is only but so much love you can have. Other things like the man asking the boy “Why am I not enough for you?”. Implying that the boy has so much love for everything it drives the man crazy. I do this so readers can get a better understanding of how much love the man lost when his wife left him, leaving him with only enough love for the boy.

A symbol I chose to use for this passage was, love affects our choices. The man and the boy’s choices differ when it comes to helping people out. The man believes that they should only focus on themselves because he doesn’t have time to love anyone else. The boy never experienced a tragic lost like the man did with his wife so when he sees someone in need he wants to help them. In my creative piece I proved this by writing things like when the man says, “there is no way we can take the boy with us”. I changed the way the boy responds though by having him question the man’s decision while simply asking him “What makes him any different than me?”. The boy realizes that him and the other boy are both alone in a sense. The other boy was physically alone and the boy is emotionally alone. He travels with the man who keeps him company but does not fulfill his emotional needs.

To end my creative piece I talk about the man explaining to the boy what could happen if they bring the other boy with them. If they take him and the man spits up his love for them, he will not stop if the boy dies. He will keep going because he has to take care of the other boy. The boy takes on the man's feelings about being unwanted. Now the boy and the man both have grasped the fact that they only have each other.

Britain's involvement with America

Posted by Shaion Denny in American History - Jonas - C on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 8:29 am
My infographic is about America's development after succeeding from Great Britain. I wrote mostly about how America compares to Great Britain after the war. I compare things like their countries system, the people who "lead" their system and the people who actually rule the system (a.k.a the government and the parliament).

1830's Discoveries

Posted by Shaion Denny in American History - Jonas - C on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 9:27 pm

Who is Theodor Schwann you say?!  Theodor Schwann born on December 7th 1810. Graduated from college in 1834 achieving his doctorate in medicine. Today we look at him in a different light. We look at him as the man who discovered cells in plants and animals. The world watches as he takes a bold step and goes against the scientist before him , trying to prove that not only do objects have cells but that animals might have them too. Is this the most important discovery in science since gravity ?

The House Of The Scorpions Book Review

The House Of the Scorpions Book review

The relevant becomes flawless strokes of the mind unleashing the unknown from its cages. Nancy Farmer won multiple awards for her book “The House Of The Scorpions”. Nancy Farmer is highly known for her science fiction books. This book is one of her most know books across the country. She makes us as readers see characters for more than just how they help the story but how they compare to us. Characters roam like lost puppies in a dark room shivering motionless until the lights come on.

The House Of The Scorpions is an empowering piece of art. It crosses unforeseen boundaries in the world of fiction. As a first time reader it would appear that The House Of The Scorpions is a book about a clone wanting to be a real boy. But once you go through the book for a second or third time you start to get a different idea for meaning and message behind the book. As an experienced reader you are able to see the different themes presented within the book. These newly presented themes are things like poverty, loneliness, religion, and the hardest one to see is trust. Trust is the hardest theme to find in The House Of The Scorpions because of how often betrayal is used in the book. Trust and betrayal go hand and hand but in this book.

Matteo Alacrán, or Matt for short, was a boy trying to escape what could only be known to him as a perfect word. He was raised by a women named Celia for most of his life. Celia worked for a man name Él Patron who you can say is Matt’s father in a way. Él Patron is a big time drug dealer who uses clones , Matt being one of them, for body parts so he can essentially live forever. Matt is special to Él Patron because Matt is the smartest clone he has had in years so he kept him alive. Matt eventually move into the big house with Él Patron and his family so Matt could continue learning. Matt had become too smart for Él Patron and it made él Patron feel dumb so he made plans to execute Matt and harvest his organs. Matt being smart ran away before that could happen. Matt goes on a nice adventure in America before returning to find out Él Patron poisoned everyone who worked for him and his family so they could all die with him because he believed that when something died as your property they would always be your property even in heaven or hell.

The book isn’t setup like your normal story. The House Of the Scorpions is setup as intel to this child’s mind and everyday adventures. Matteo Alacrán to the reader isn’t just a clone boy want to be real, or even a boy trying to find his purpose in life. To the person holding the book ,flipping from page to page fighting to see what words will be on the next page, Matteo is a man who's fear brings more than just knowledge but experience. Throughout the book many ideas are put into the readers mind. Like what is the absence of light in a realm that seems to be always shinning. The author does her best to not only challenge us with these questions but help us understand the answers we might get for them. The absence of light in a place thats always shinning is a metaphor for how people compress their fear. Matteo’s only fear in the land of Opium is the absence of knowledge.

The house of the Scorpions exceeds all of my expectations. When I was first asked to red this book I hated everything about it because to me all I saw was a big book full of words that determined my final grades. But when asked to read it a second time I saw it from a new angle because I was not forced to read it. I saw new ideas, questions, and meanings to this book. I expected that when I read it the second time for it to be like the first time. Full of confusing chapters that mean one thing. I thought the meaning of the book was to be careful who you trust. I’ am glad to say now that I was wrong. The meaning of this book is not be careful who you trust but to keep an open mind and never judge a book by its cover. I enjoyed this book because it was surprising how many mental challenges were in it. I think this book should be read by anyone who likes drama, action, science, futuristic, and mystery novels. The House Of The Scorpion is without a doubt on the list for books everyone must read before leaving for college.

2014 National Day of Writing

Secrets are shadows hidden to those facing the sun and to native Philadelphians the shadows are all we know. Outsiders know us as a place to visit not a place in need. To us philly isn’t a place to give worship but a battlefield for education and incarceration. The authorities watch over us from a young age trying to encourage us yet unknowingly break us down in the process. Our pubic school foundation is crumbling down on us every year. Moving from one problem to the next. Being in high school I have the abilities to fight for my rights but who will be there for the younger children. To me I don’t live in a historic land, I live in a place of no return. I’ve talked to some of my classmates about what they love about Philadelphia and the only thing they could honestly say was “I love it because it’s where I was born and raised.” But upon further questioning they gave no reason for why they would come back to Philadelphia after  hopefully becoming successful. I believe that it is because of those shadows of secrets that we could not even imagine ourselves returning to a place we once called home. The shadows of secrets isn’t really a shadow or even a secret. It’s just the facts that people skip over when visiting. We’re not the worst city in the country but we could ALWAYS be better.

Nonviolence has been said to be the better option. It is also said to be the harder and longer option. Throughout history people try to say that with the power of nonviolence you can and will get more respect, power over others, and people will not go against you. All year I have made it easy see that I’ am without a doubt all for violence when it comes to needing or wanting something. I personally feel that one; it is a faster method than nonviolence, two; people will give you more power, three; people know that the died for immediate change and not  just so the next step of the plan can be put in action.

Within the debate between violence and nonviolence a lot of people side with nonviolence because of the well known nonviolent protest leaders. People like Martin Luther King and Gandhi always are brought up into conversation based on their horrendous and outstanding nonviolent revolutions. When I join into these type of debate and I ‘am asked about my opinion I always side for violence when something needs to be done. One thing I always throw into the conversation is the fact that those two men were the  leaders of some of the greatest revolutions ever but not only our most known but are most important revolutions were fought with the help of violence. Before nonviolent revolutions the only type of revolutions were revolutionary wars. Revolutionary wars not only freed the blacks but it also freed our country so we could be our own nation.

Most people argue that nonviolence is more powerful because they think it can get your point across better. Well there is an old saying that “if you aren’t willing to die for it than there is no point in fighting for it. Now there are quotes to go against violence one of which is “nonviolence is a weapon of the strong.” -Gandhi. In one of my journals I talked about my stance on violence vs nonviolence. I also talk about how much faith I have in nonviolence. When completing that journal I was reading a piece from Gandhi and that is also where I got the famous quote. I feel like Gandhi thinks that only those who can wield the power to use nonviolence as an answer has a powerful mind. I believe that it also takes a lot of strength to decide that you actually want to use violence.

Another thing people like to argue is that the process of nonviolent revolution is easier than the process of a violent revolution. In another one of my journals I talk about how process does not matter. In the journal I go on to make the argument that if someone has a 100 man army and they succeed while I have a 10 man army and I also succeed what makes us different. Well one thing is that I will get more respect because I made a bigger impact since I did exactly what they did with less people. It is also the same thing as 100 being nonviolence while 10 is like violence.

This is just a small example of the type of work I was able to complete throughout the year. Because of my work and some time I was able to give my classmates another view on violent protest and revolutions. I believe that my work has deeply impacted the minds of my peers.

Revolution

Posted by Shaion Denny in World History - Block - C on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 8:04 pm
This unit we focused on revolutions. The biggest revolution we focused on is the Egyptian revolution. We talked about the multiple steps in their attempt to continue their revolution. Another thing we did was compare the different types of revolutions with past revolutions.
My project is based on The Revolutionary war that was fought by America and The British compared to methods for a successful peaceful revolution. One thing I try to mention is the true meaning of revolution. I do that so I can start a thought in someones mind about what a revolution is to them. I have quotes from significant characters from the Revolutionary War and from arguably the great peaceful revolution leader there ever was, Ghandi.

Pipeline Monolog Project Shaion and Tomy

Posted by Shaion Denny in World History - Block - C on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 8:05 am
Part 1: In this unit we learned about the keystone pipeline. The keystone pipeline is a pipeline that will carry oil through america to the gulf of mexico. It will transport tar sand oil which is dirtier than regular oil. Its been talked about since 2007 and they plan to build it by 2015.

Part 2:  "$7 billion proposed pipeline" -http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/five-things/the-keystone-xl-pipeline/12200/

Monologs:

Mark

(On the phone with his boss)

Yes, yes, I understand that you need to save money to pay other workers, but I need to provide my family with their needs. I know that it’s not your problem but would you please.... Oh come on, just this time. Don’t make me beg, it’s not pretty when a grown man begs. Boss, I am your best worker, how would you feel if I walked away from this stupid pipeline? There are other important constructions that would love.... Oh you dare me to walk away? I would do it but I have pity for you so, I wont. You don’t need me? (infuriated) We’ll see about that, I quit! (Hangs up the phone) (To himself) No wonder this man is hated, he has no sensitivity whatsoever. All he cares about is that the works gets done. You know what? I’m going to make sure the work doesn’t get done. He says he can get it done without me, I’ll prove him wrong. This pipeline is not getting built. (He gets out his house and goes the the construction site) Hello boss, or should I say ex boss? You weren’t expecting me huh? I know I quitted, I’m just here to stop you from going through with this construction. How will I do that? Oh no, not with violence. I’ll do it the best way possible. I’m not telling you, just watch me. (to his coworkers) Hey my fellow brothers, what are you doing? Do you not know the cruelty of your present actions? We are destroying the environment. No no no, not just USA, the entire world. This pipeline could, no, will devastate ecosystems, pollute water sources and jeopardize public health. In other words by doing this we are putting ourselves in danger. Nature will not be able to protect us anymore, instead, it will turn against us. No boss, I will not “shut up”, I have to speak my mind and let these people know the truth. Did you know that tar sands oil is one of the dirtiest fuels? The pipeline would carry 830,000 barrels of dirty tar sands oil into the United States daily, and result in climate-damaging emissions equal to adding more than 5.6 million new cars to U.S. roads. The tar sands oil will even augment rates of cancer. We don’t want to be part of this madness. I too, thought that this pipeline was being built for a good cause under good circumstances, but after finding outa bout these side effects, it’s not worth it. Let’s all stand up and walk away from the pipeline construction. (Proudly) Let’s all go home with a clear conscience.

Marta- (waiting to be introduced she is impatient as she has been waiting all month for this speech. now that the day has come she just wants to get it over with.)

Marta- Hello everyone and a special hello for all of the american citizens visiting canada today. I would like to start off by saying God bless canada and God bless america. Today I’m here to discuss the keystone pipeline with mostly the americans because we  already have canadians who started building this precious pipe that God has forsaken us with. Now lets begin to break down this “bad business”. Jobs- created, gas prices- lowered, tax money- separated between important american industries which means anyone near the pipeline pays less taxes. This pipeline won’t cause any new problems that we as a world haven't already found a solution to. Fracking is the only real issue in play all of the other issues are just rumors. America is in debt of 16.7 trillion dollars. 7 million dollars more won’t affect you especially since it will limit the oil you buy from foreign countries by at least 40%. I believe it was America who came up with the phase “you have to spend money to make money” I would happily spend 7 million dollars in order to save almost 300 billion dollars in the near future. Now how can that sound any better? Oh I know, how about with the fact that the pipeline is being built by the top pipeline construction workers money can buy? These pipeline builders have spent months learning how to build a pipeline, and this is after the years of experience they already had building other pipelines. Once we hired them we forced them to take more classes on pipeline building so in a way we overeducated them to do the work. It’s like sending an American football player to training camp every year. Why does he take time to review things he knows? Well let me tell you: its not for him it’s for his coach. His coach will have the satisfaction of knowing that the player does not forget any of the skills he learned.  The rumor that the water we be flammable is in fact true, but it’s not because of the oil, it’s because of chemicals released in the water. Chemicals that were released by fracking. Tar sands oil will affect america as much as tv does young children. Fracking for fossil fuel is what’s gonna kill you. Think of the children, if you allow yourselves to buy foreign oil for too long your children will get use to it. They along with the rest of these beautiful children are the future of not only america but canada, mexico, brazil, spain, haiti, japan, and one of your nations biggest trading markets, (pause) china. The future of america starts by eliminating the thought of your children having to pay off your debt of 16 trillion or 16 quadrillion or, and god please forbid, 16 quintillion dollars, although it would be a piece of cake for them since there are some really creative children out there who won’t struggle to find ways to increase america's debt. Speaking of struggles it was once said that “If their is no struggle then there can be no progress” -great american activist Frederick Douglas. So lets show children the struggle now and they (pause) (with great pride and enthusiasm) will show us progress. Goodnight and may God bless you all.

Josh-

(Josh is walking home from school and he’s hearing construction noise. With no idea what’s going on, he stays calm. He then stumbles into a friend of his and they start joking around. After a while, he decides to finally head home and they go separate ways)

What’s going on? Why are people digging around my house? Where’s mom? They have no right to do that, at least I think. Is this a joke? I aint got time to play if this is a prank, someone’s gonna pay like for real yo. (Josh is so surprised that he stands still like for 20 minutes). Wait what am I doing? I gotta start asking these people to leave my house alone. ( He goes and asks what’s going and the workers tell him about the pipeline). Whoa whoa whoa, heck no. They are transporting tar sands oil to America? We shouldn’t even have thought about accepting this offer and yet we accepted it? I don’t care how much we currently need money, we can’t be the energy sacrifice zone, we can’t be the place where most of the carbon-based energy flows and spills anymore. If there’s one thing I learned it’s that our country is way too polluted already, and now we accept to let Canada transport, not regular oil, but tar sands oil. That’s one of the dumbest mistakes that the government has made from what I know of. I don’t really care about all of that, well I care, but that’s not the most important point. This is my house, well it’s my parents house but still I live here. I’m pretty sure you gotta have a permit for that. Well, do you?  (He gets no answer, all the construction workers just ignored him because he’s just a teenager) This is not fair. Oh I get it, they’re ignoring me cause I’m black and I’m just a kid. Everyone needs a voice in this society, I’m pretty sure we live in a democratic country. I don’t get this crap, whatever’s happening in the country shouldn’t affect me and my family all the way in Alabama, that’s one of the reasons why we moved here. I need to find a way to contact the president and let him know how I feel. This transportation cannot go through, I’ll start a revolution if I have to. I’d even use violence, me and my gang don’t play.

Johnny-

(Johnny walks into class late and as punishment his teacher Ms. Anna gives him a different project by mistake)

Johnny: Why do I always get harder projects. Its not fair. She hates me I know she hates me. Why should I have her class anyway. Now I have to waste my whole week on finding out stuff for this stupid pipeline. (Johnny slowly walks into the house so he won’t wake his mom) If my mom finds out I have a project thats worth my whole grade she’ll make me spend all day and night working on it. Hey mom my day was fine I’ll just leave you be, oh and I don’t have any homework so I’m bout to go chill wit Mike. Ugh come on why she always gotta draw. I always do my projects its just I like to get all the thoughts together then do the rest of the work on sunday nights. The project is on the keystone pipeline. She says ( in a sarcastic voice) it may really open your eye’s on life. Man fuck this shit Imma just look at the plans. Okay okay its a pipeline for oil and it looks likes it goes straight down through america. Wait that can’t be legal. Hey mom is it legal to build things on another country and not have their permission. Oh it is as long as they have permission before building okay thanks mom. Okay so they have permission but I don’t see how it affects us as americans. Hey mom we live in Montana right. Cool this pipeline is going to be built not to far from our house then. Mom calm down it’s not that serious. Wait let me show you the plans for it. It’s really cool and this government site says that it will create jobs and other cool things for people who live near it. That means that you could work for them. This says that it will create 20,000 jobs and give back millions of dollars in tax money. Most of the jobs go to the canadians but like 900 of them go to american citizens. It also says about $585 million dollars in tax money. That means we’re gonna be rich… oh the government gets the money. But wait this says the money we be given to people who live near the pipeline and gas will be cheaper. It also says that the country might go in debt by 7 million. Thats okay, we can just use some of the money we make from it to pay them back then boom we’re out of debt. Oh how much are we in debt. BILLIONS!! but millions are the biggest number. (At school the next day working on his project) Oh my god this will be super awesome. Think about it, I can be standing there washing my hands when a robber comes in all I have to do is splash him with water then throw a match at him. Oh my fault I forgot to tell you but this thing I read said that if the keystone pipeline breaks or leaks out any toxic chemicals, once built in our lake, then our water supply would be flammable. Hey miss. Janet didn’t you say your sister Jane was working on this pipeline? Can you tell her that she’s awesome I love everything about it. I hope they go through with it.

Jane- (alice has just gotten home and is now laying out the blueprint for the keystone pipeline. When suddenly she finds out that the plans for the pipeline are scheduled to go straight through her family's land)

Jane: OH MY GOD THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT! I’ve gotta change this before we get permission to dig on American soil. This has to be wrong. Let me call the president. Hello, these plans say the pipeline goes through Montana, please tell me that this is either the wrong copy of the blueprint or that I’m looking at the wrong line. Okay are you sure? I’m asking because my family still lives there. Where will they go? I know I know it’s something we have to do but…… ugh okay let me call my family. (hangs up and calls her sister) Hey sis how’s it going, its been a long time since we talked but I called to ask you a quick question, do you and mommy still live at daddy’s old farm? Oh you do, well if you don’t mind me asking, when are ya’ll moving out? Well you remember how I got that job in Canada and I told you we build pipelines? Well long story short I need you to vacate the premises and find a new place to stay because I got a pipeline that needs to be built right where the farm is. Calm down sis you won’t be homeless you all can come live with me because that pipeline is gonna save us millions especially since I’m the vice president of this project. If you move to canada then you won’t be affected by the gas fumes that will spread in the waterline, the $7million debt the U.S will owe to private sector funding, you won’t have to worry about the 830,000 barrels of tar sand oil, which is dirtier than normal oil by the way, and you won’t have to worry about mom getting laid off because the pipeline is basically gonna take jobs from the U.S and give them to  Canadians. Yes I understand that our family has been there for hundreds of years but this pipeline will basically help us bond as a family. Okay Im listening. Yes, 7 million in debt, 830,000 barrels of poisonous oil, jobs employment decrease, water may be flammable and/or cease to exist, and thousands of people getting evicted from their own property. Now that you say it like that It does sound like our family would suffer from it along with other families in that thousand mile radius. I’ll call my boss and see what I can do, okay love you bye. (hangs up and calls her boss) Hey boss I just talked to my sister Janet and she really opened my eyes, we can’t do this to America. No I’m not going to tell you that we need to change the plans we spent years developing but I do know that this project can’t be built if I, the creator of this pipeline quits. Even if you replace me the pipeline can’t be built without the final signature from the original staff so I’m not asking, I’m telling you that we aren’t building that pipeline through america so goodnight and see you at work.

Element Project

Posted by Shaion Denny in Art - Freshman - Hull on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 6:51 pm
Inquiry: I used Inquiry to find some amazing facts about my element. Also to actually find my element. It helped me find my inspiration for what I wanted to do.

Research: I found amazing facts online. I also found the signature of Hans Christian Oersted who is a big factor in the founding of aluminum.

Collaboration: I collaborated with Lizzie to see if the signature would work well. Also she helped me draw the signature.

Presentation: The colors of the print collaborate very well together. The brown from the background allows the colors to stand out even mor. I like the way it turned out.

Reflection: It turned out awesome for me but I wish I could of added more colors. I think I should of use contrasting colors.

Negative Space Drawing And Cut Out

Posted by Shaion Denny in Art - Freshman - Hull on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 11:15 am
A) Negative space is the space around or inside an object.

b)I found the negative space in the drawing by look for the space that was not occupied by an object. For the cut out it was a bit different. The negative space was already pointed out for us.

c)It gives them a better perspective on the space surrounding the object they might be drawing.

D)Yes because it will make it easier to draw the object if they can identify the space around it.

Shaion's Slide

Posted by Shaion Denny in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11:34 am
I had to change my slide based on what my peer were criticized about. I wanted my name to stand out but not enough to distract people from the rest of my words. So I made them the same color but different fonts sizes. Another thing I did to make myself stand out was swap one of the photos in the background so that it was sure to stand out. I think I worked more on how to get things to stand out so I also pointed in the pictures.

Denny, Shaion, Lucidchart, Fios

Posted by Shaion Denny in Technology- Freshmen - Hull on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 12:30 pm
My internet connection comes in the same way everyone else. It all starts with the cloud which represents the internet. My ISP (internet serves provider) is Fios. From that my ISP cable is connected to my modem. Next comes the router, mines is a wireless router. Before that comes the ethernet connection which connects everything. Back to the wireless router, it sends out a wireless signal which lets give the internet to my wireless devices. I would say my "OMG" moment is when I had to figure out how everything worked and was connected to each other. My "lol" was hearing about the cloud and finding out about how quick the internet was even though it goes through a lot of processes. I would tell someone that when trying to describe their internet connection make sure they add in the ethernet cords because they are very important.
