Chris Blundell is a recording artist and video director who has had experience inside of a recording studio. In this article, he describes his own steps when taking a week (7 days) to record music. Realistically, I will never be able to do this. However, that doesn’t mean I cannot use some of his advice. Blundell highlights three major parts of recording: writing, refining, recording, and editing. These are all steps I will need to complete in order to finish my project.

This is a video recording of our song, “Means To An End”. It was taken during our recording session at Forge Recording Studios, and is a primary source for the making of our music. This video serves merely as representation of what kinds of things we did inside of the studio. We would lay down scratch tracks, and then re-record over the tracks. This source helps show the recording process with the band.

This source offers great tips on writing reflective essays. A large part of my project will be reflective, so it is important to grasp the main concepts behind a reflective paper. This doesn’t help me with my full outline for each essay, but it does help me consider what is important about my process. In order to write a good reflection, I will have to take notes along the way, considering the key points made on this website.

This source is a publicized version of Immanuel Kant’s “What is Enlightenment” essay. I first read this in tenth grade under Mr. Sanchez’s instruction, and it remains one of the most influential pieces of writing I’ve ever read while at SLA. I wrote a song called “Immanuel”, which uses some of the proposed ideas from the essay. However, the essay has also influenced the way I approach music and songwriting. Kant suggests that the only way to be enlightened is to question basic societal patterns in everyday life. My songwriting has spawned out of my desire to answer questions, or ask them.

This is a website specifically designed to help students (undergraduate-level students) write reflective essays. There are multiple tabs on the website for writing a reflective essay, and it breaks down the entire piece into smaller, easier steps.

This is the studio that my band plans on recording with. We used their facilities before, and were blown away by the equipment available. The producers were more than willing to accommodate our sound, and even offered us professional advice when we began the recording process. 

8. Bartholomew, Tucker “Means To An End” - The Movers - Forge Recording Studios, August 23rd, 2012. 

This is another original song that my band recorded at Forge Recording Studios. It took us around one hour to successfully record all the parts that we needed to layer into the song, and the final product turned out to be seven minutes and thirty seconds long.  I wrote this song at a music camp in the summer of 2012. The camp's teachers performed multiple pieces that they'd mastered for us one evening, and it was quite honestly one of the most beautiful displays of talent I'd ever seen. The song was essentially written about not knowing how to interpret such talent.

9. Bartholomew, Tucker “Grow Me Again” - The Movers - Forge Recording Studios May 9th, 2013

This song is about struggling with feelings of inadequacy in basic, everyday life. The individual in the song feels as if his life is not original, and the problems that he experiences are just re-articulated problems of past generations. He seeks to break out of this cycle, and desires a second shot at past decisions so that he can make different choices. In the end, he is ultimately repurposed, as he describes a love that keeps him grounded in something larger than himself. The song is more acoustic than what we normally play, using a mandolin as the lead instrument.

This source discusses the importance of songorder in playlists/mixtapes. I found this article particularly intriguing because it focused on the mood of the listener. I believe that the order in which I present my songs and essays will have a significant impact on the way the project is received by readers/listeners. This article offers a lot of advice to these simple details. The song order will change depending on the mood/volume of the song.

This source includes an essay written by James Rachels about Ethical Egoism. Over the summer, a fellow student and I participated in an independent study with a philosophy professor from LaSalle University. Since then, I have gained an interest in the philosophy of ethics, and part of my songwriting process has included thinking about common ethical issues. This particular article focuses on problems surrounding ethical egoism, but also presents arguments from both sides of the spectrum.

12. Bartholomew, Tucker “Price to Pay” - The Movers - Forge Recording Studios, August 23rd, 2012. 

This is an older song about a boy who is trying to make sense of some of his older brother's choices. He acknowledges that the decisions his brother ( his role model) has made have pushed his family apart more than they have brought them together. He knows that his brother wants to change, so he asks him to in an attempt to give his brother a new purpose and obligation towards his family.

13. Bartholomew, Tucker “Lamplit Room” - The Movers - Forge Recording Studios, April 23rd, 2013. 

This is an introspective song about a man (or woman) who is made anxious by the possibility of his secrets being brought to the surface. We ran through versions of the song in the studio three times, trying to get an appropriate live sound. The recording is a little longer than intended, but its length reflects how much the sound is supposed to grow throughout the course of the song.

14. Bartholomew, Tucker “Immanuel” - The Movers - Forge Recording Studios, April 23rd, 2013. 

Inspired by a 10th grade World History class, the song is loosely based on some of Immanuel Kant's views on enlightenment. The song is about a man who believes everyone needs to be freed of their self-imposed immaturity, and so he starts a rebellion. Eventually the tables are turned, and instead of leading individuals to think freely, he manipulates them to where they solely follow him, and anyone who opposes him (by thinking freely) is seized.

This twelve minute video is an informational piece about how to build guitar tone. Nels Cline, a lead guitarist for the Chicago based band Wilco, explains his influences as well as his equipment. He explains the importance of building an original sound through effects pedals.

Tucker Bartholomew's Lemony Pasta with Wilted Arugula

Lemony pasta with wilted arugula

Ingredients: (4 servings)

• coarse salt and ground pepper

• 3/4 pound short tubular pasta

• 3 ounces wild or baby arugula (3 cups)

• 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest, plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice

• 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

• 3/4 cup grated pecorino cheese, plus more for serving

Steps: 

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions. In a large bowl, compbine arugula with lemon zest and juice; season with salt and pepper. Drain pasta and immediately add to arugula along with oil and cheese. Toss and season with salt and pepper. Serve topped with more cheese (if desired).

Analysis:

While the specificity behind its name would insinuate a unique history and background, "Lemony pasta with wilted arugula" is simply an alternative to both salad, and pasta. The ingredients are simple, and incorporate whole foods and processed foods. The pasta is a toss-up. Normally, pasta is considered a "whole food", yet many genetically modified strains of pasta are sold in supermarkets and local delis. The arugula is typically bought local, so it is almost definitely a "whole food." The lemons used for juice and zest are also whole foods. The only other potentially GMO besides the pasta is the olive oil (the cheese is also bought 'organically').

Overall, the meal is fairly healthy, albeit one or two exceptions. In one serving, you consume 443 calories, approximately 13 grams of fat (4 of which are saturated), 18 grams of protein, 65 grams in carbohydrates, and 3.1 grams of fiber. The meal would be great after a long run, or extended break in a day's meal. While 443 calories for one serving is a lot, the standard calorie count for a main dish at a meal is 510 cal. 

The environmental impact is very low. While the liquids may have been processed, the other foods are purchased locally at delis or farmers markets that sell food from local farms. I can proudly say that the meal is entirely American, and the majority of the meal only traveled approximately 100 miles (excuse the liquids). 

Depending on the quality of pasta, cheese, lemons, and other ingredients, the meals price varies. This dish costs approximately $22, however broken down over four people it only comes to around $5.50 per person (assuming only four people are eating. When you double the amount of people, you double the ingredients). 

The social ramifications are not steep. The farm that the arugula comes from is in Lancaster County, PA, and was purchased at a local farmers' market at Clark Park in West Philadelphia. The majority of the food that my family buys is from local farmers' markets, so Supreme Shop n' Bag would not be gaining profit. 



Personal Reflection:

Over the course of this unit, I’ve learned a great deal about the production and consumption of food. Furthermore, we have studied the cause and effect behind everyday foods - going into depth about the effects of sugars, carbohydrates, and fats. Placing myself into the larger food system, I realize that my footprint in the food market directly aligns with the footprint of other consumers - whether I like it or not. This is one of the biggest problems in our food market: while we can choose what to buy at the store, we do not choose where it comes from. The simplest solution to these problems would be to buy things locally, and support non-industrialized farming. For me, this would mean supporting the local farmers market, and purchasing food grown in Lancaster Country or other rural parts of Pennsylvania. Preferably non-genetically modified foods as well. While the impact would be small, I would hope these trends transcend my own food-footprint and into other communities. 

Unfortunately, it’s not easy to make these changes. Local food is often more expensive than industrial food because its price is based on quality, and the time it took to make. However, I am willing to try to make these changes.

El secreto del Perro en las montañas de Virginia.

Había una familia en las montañas de Virginia. Había un papá, una mamá, un hijo, y una hija. La familia vivía en una casa humilde, pero ellos gustaron el humildad de la casa. La familia tenía un perro. Era una perro especial, y era de ascendencia labordoodle. El perro era bastante importante. El perro tenía un secreto. El Perro estaba preocupadísima. El perro lloraba. El perro le sollozó al mamá, "El Mar, mamacocha, está furioso. Mamcocha va a destruir el mundo. Había un problema. Era un problema grave.

 

Había un gato. El perro le dijo al gato, "Hay un problema. El mar, Mamacocha está furioso! El Mar va a destruir el mundo. Sube la montaña más alta con nosotros." El gato comprendeó perfectamente. El gato se escapó con el grupo.

 

Había un cerdo. El perro le exclamó al cerdo, "Hay un problema. El mar está enojadísimo! El mar va a destruir el mundo. Escala la montaña más alta con nosotros, por favor!" El perro era muy preocupadísima. El cerdo comprendío bien, pero no caminaba con el grupo. El cerdo saltó.

 

Había un delfín. El perro le dijo a la delfín y hablé la problema. El delfín entendío, y se fue con el grupo. Pero, él necesitó a nadar. Entonces él buscó un río.

 

Había un espantapájaros. El perro explicó al espantapájaros, "Hay un problema. El mar, Mamacocha, está furioso. El mar va a destruir el mundo. Escala la montaña más alta con nosotros." El espantapájaros comprendió, pero no se fue con el grupo. El espantapájaros montó en el cerdo.

 

Había un unicornio. El perro le dijo, "Hay una problema! El, Mar, Mamacocha, está furioso. El mar va a destruir el mundo. Sube la montaña más alta con nosotros." El unicornio no les hizo caso. El unicornio no se fue con el grupo y era demasiado perezoso.

 

El grupo subió la montaña más alta. La familia, el perro, y el gato subieron Huillcacoto, la montaña más alta. El cerdo y el espantapájaros saltaban. Y el delfín nadaba.

 

El mar subió. El mar subió con furia. Había un problema. Era un problema grave. El unicornio no estaba con el grupo. El unicornio corrio. El unicornio no caminó. El unicornio no voló. El unicornio corrió muy rápido. El unicornio subió la montaña más alta, pero se cayó.

 

Por fin el mar, Mamacocha, estaba contento y no subió más. El mar bajó. La familia bajó. El perro bajó. Los otros animales bajaron. Y todos estaban felices. Y ya no había problemas.

Estoy pretendiendo ser un profesor de historia que conoce un niño que está siendo abusado. La película se llama El Bola, y se trata de un chaval que es un abusó de él padre. Él padre es de la clase obrera y él toma El Bola (el chaval) trabaje en un marcado de ferretería. Él no se preocupa por la educación de El Bola, él sólo dice: “Haga el trabajo.” Mi proyecto es en la forma de un correo electronica a la policía. Lea el papel, y piensa sobre la situación cómo tú estas hay.  



El Correo Electronica

Hola, me llamo Teodoro, y estoy un profesor de historia en La Escuela de Esperanza y Confianza. Ayer, yo decidido a habla con los oficiales de policía sobre un denuncio de maltratar infantil. Yo estoy muy agobiado con la decisión porque yo no tiene la prueba suficiente sobre el crimen. Yo pienso que Pablo es un victima de abusar, y que su padre es el hombre detrás de lo. Yo dudo que las cicatrizas y los maratones están de accidentes, y yo no pienso que Pablo será honesto con oficiales y otros porque él es asustado de su padre.

Yo necesito decir que yo no quiero a falsamente acusado el padre de Pablo, pero yo no hablaría si no me siento seguro sobre este. Pablo es aquí, pero a veces él parece muy lejos. Y, yo no pienso que este es un soñar despierto. Yo reconozco los indicios, pero yo quiero estar seguro y asegúrese que Pablo tiene ayuda si él está en peligro.

Cuando yo pienso sobre maltratar infantil, yo siempre pensé que lo era no cerca de la crimen. Yo siempre pensé yo reconocería los indicios y nunca hacer la vista gorda. Pero, ahora yo miro a la evidencia, y yo entiendo que yo necesito a decir algo.

El otro día, Pablo estaba en clase y se quedó dormido. Yo era no preocupado porque lo era un tiempo de trabajar y no un tiempo de aprender. Pero, Pablo comenzó a gritar, y sacudió preocupante. Todo era terminó rápidamente, pero me pareció ver el miedo en Pablo cuando él despertó. Cuando yo pregunté si él quiero a ir a la casa, él sacudió él cabeza rápidamente y trató a detener llorando. "No digas a mi padre, por favor." Que es cuando yo entiendé la situación de Pablo. Entonces yo dije: “Vaya a la enfermera. Si tu padre pregunta sobre escuela, hable sobre los chequeos la enfermera necesita hacer.”           

Después el evento, yo pregunté sobre él vida de casa, y si se sentía cómodo a la escuela. Él sólo respondió a la pregunta segundo, y él no hizo caso el primer pregunta. Yo traté de hacer decir algo a hacer él quiere a hablar, pero no lo hizo quiere a abrir él boca. “No te enojes,” él dije.

Yo soy sólo un profesor, y yo no puedo detener el padre de Pablo. Pero, no puedo sentarme en este peligro. Yo necesito a saber que este va a ser tomado en serio. Por favor, enfrentarse con el padre de Pablo, porque yo no puedo hago cualquier cosa excepto denunciar la problema.

Yo se que este es verdad porque yo se como a ver los indicios. Yo comenzó investigación sobre el tema, y descubierto que los indicios de cicatrices y moratones está popular en muchas casos. Pero, yo necesito la policía a averiguar más. Yo también veo el padre de Pablo gritando y maldiciendo  a él familia. Ayer, él dijiste a él esposa, "Compren las ropas por Pablo, aunque Pablo no merece... [explícito]." Por favor, ayude Pablo! El padre de Pablo no merece su hijo! Yo no quiero a ver más heridas y crueldad con Pablo. Pablo es un chaval, él no debe vivir con miedo. Su realidad es muy diferente que otros. Ayude me prevenir este!

Process Paper - Literacy (Tucker Bartholomew)

When my group initially got together to discuss ideas, we realized we all had a different vision for how things should be put together. One thing that really helped us combine our different 'visions' was when we individually looked at an ad campaign, and then wrote up reports for the Moodle assignment. This was helpful because it enabled us see what we liked in ad campaigns, and what we thought was effective, and ineffective. While we all liked the idea of the website campaign, and I especially liked the idea of having a simplistic layout, with three different sections for each chapter of research. I ended up dividing our final website out into three sections with a welcome page. This worked nicely because it let us give our information out in pieces, and then use a video as a PSA.

Aja, Quinn, and Nashrah did a great job with the posters we used as part of our ad campaign, but we had to get them out into the world somewhere. Eventually, I was able to set up the posters at a small school in West Philadelphia called Jubilee School. They also let me take some pictures with the students sitting around them. These pictures were crucial for a PSA video I had decided to make because it gave concrete examples of our 'product' being used. I pieced the video together using the pictures I took of the Jubilee kids, and rolling video shots of our own school library. While the visual effects in the video are simplistic, the worded narration is the main focus. I used Stevie Wonder's song, "Higher Ground," not just because it is a great song, but it's sort of an uplifting song. The mood of the video runs synonymously with the theme of our project, which is to motivate people to read.  

            Before the start of this project, literacy percentages for Philadelphia were not something I knew a lot about. Because of my lack of knowledge, I knew that research would be key in how I pieced together my final products. Since I really had to research the topic, I was able to gather a lot of statistical information about our theme. I was able to write descriptions and short essays on the website explaining why literacy is so important, and why it shouldn’t be ignored.

            The biggest challenge of this project was not in content, but in visualization. I did not realize that iWeb was not in use by Apple anymore, and I didn’t find that out until after our website was finished. Luckily, I realized that if I made the project into a keynote and linked the file as a download, I could easily get the link’s URL to the 'public'. The final keynote was really easy to make because I already had the design from the iWeb, and it accurately depicted our research in an informative and effective manner. I'm also able to tell how many times the file is downloaded from the link by looking at the main page on my Cloud app.

Marxism (Callie, Isabella, Taahir, Tucker)

​Our project is about the effects of Marxism on governments across the span of the 19th and 20th century. In order to do this, we broke up our topics into three different studies. We used revolutions from three different countries (China, North Korea, and Russia) to show how Marxism has been placed in each government. However, our main idea was to focus on how Marxism’s primary doctrines and ideologies were not, and still isn’t followed. We chose this topic because we wanted to look at a system of ideals that has only partially been followed. We chose our countries in step with this idea.

The first thing we all did was research Marxism. We used sources that helped us get a solid grounding on the topic, and then used that knowledge in our research of the revolutions. Each of us chose smaller battles/protests in each of the revolutions. These studies include the Bolshevik revolution, North Korea vs. South Korea, and the May Fourth Movement. As we did our research, we found sources that gave accurate information about the time period as well as the event. We needed this because we were writing fictional journal articles as if we were from the time period. This was how we chose to display our information at first.

The majority of our sources are reports from college professors, online articles, or just informational documents. We did try and tackle the famous “Economic Philosophic Manuscripts,” but that turned out to be really very dense, and it was detracting from our overall message. Instead, we used videos given to us by our teacher. David Harvey, a professor who specializes in Marx, turned out to be a very useful source for us. We watched videos that gave us insight into Marxism that would have taken us a lot longer if done on our own.

In the end, we learned a great deal about the flaws of governmental ideals, and how crucial it is to have a system that falls in the middle of the spectrum. A system that is amalgamated with ideals from both Marxism and its antithesis can create a governmental set up that works just as efficiently as any seen today. Marxism has had a nominally latent existence, and has been pidgin holed by the common public as a corrupt system or a flawed system. However, the goal of this project was not to defend this idea or counteract it; it was to show that there is no country that has followed the doctrines and philosophies of Marxism to scrupulous detail. We found this to be true.

Marx, Karl. "Economic Philosophic Manuscripts." Economic Philosophic Manuscripts(1932): 1-81. Web.

This is a link to the PDF of Karl Marx’s Economic Philosophic Manuscripts. This is a primary source, because he was the author in 1844. This is essay will play a critical role in the way we conceptualize our idea of socialism. There are a lot of interpretations of what it means to have a Marxist government, and those interpretations originate from Karl Marx himself. That is why this primary source will be useful for the project. He mentions a lot of German ideologies that he uses as an influence for his writings. This inspires the idea of possibly connecting some of the older beliefs of Germany to the beliefs of Germany in the 20th century. Because the Russian revolution began in the early 20th century, the manuscripts would have had to have played a major role in how the leaders of  socialist movements later assessed their own ideals in the founding of the new governments.


Von Kühlmann, Richard. Richard Von Kühlmann on the Russian Revolution. Germany. 30 Nov. 1917.

This is a speech that the German foreign secretary, Richard Von Kühlmann, gave to the German Reichtag on November 30th, 1917. The speech presents his opinions on the Russian Revolutions and the way the world is reacting to them. He then goes into his opinions on the governments of countries such as England and France stating that “freedom of though and freedom of speech have been suppressed.” This source is valuable because it portrays the opinions of the revolutions from another country. Richard Von Kühlmann relates what is happening in Russia to what could possibly happen in Germany, which shows the international effect of the revolutions. His underlying tone is that Germany will prevail against other countries that are filled with “greed and power.” He believes that the powers of the east will be able to rise up against the inhumane powers of the west, which is not only a statement about Germany but a statement about much of the European continent.

This source is a speech given by Vladimir Lenin, a Marxist and communist revolutionist who led the Russian Revolutions, on October 25, 1917. In this speech he warns against a counter revolution and uprising of the military against the new government formed after the overthrow of Alexander Kerenski. He states that all military men must openly support and join the new government or else they will be arrested. The speech lists what the Petrograd Council of Workmen and Soldeir’s Delegate’s (new government)  sees as its top priorities, which includes but is not limited to, giving land to the peasants and a transfer of all power to the council. This source is valuable because it displays the intended goals of the new communist party in Russia and what the party was based on (its ideology).

This is a writing by Lenin titled “Call to Power,” on the 24th of October in 1917. In it he requests that power be taken away from Alexander Kerenski’s provisional government and be transferred a committee/party chosen by the people specifically the poor and starving. He warns that the government in place at the time was going to fall and that as a revolutionary/revolutionists they must not wait. It is written to the Soviet Central Committee and supposed to represent the voices of the people. He uses a very urgent tone warning that if something doesn't happen immediately the Soviet Union as a whole will lose everything. This source is valuable because it was one of the major factors contributing to the fall of the provisional government. The day after being written Kerenski’s government was overthrown which really shows the power of these words. Although technically a call to the Soviet Union, it addressed the protesters/revolutionists in hope of motivating them.

The April Theses was a chain of "directions" which was created by Vladimir Lenin when he returned to St. Petersburg, in response to the war. In the Theses, he summoned the soviets to take power and criticized the liberals in the Provisional Government. Before Lenin's return, the government was controlled by socialist in liberals, which created a democracy. Most of the directives called for new communist policies, also calling for a new government which would be imperial to all other forms of government in Russia.

The link is to a manifesto written by workers and soldiers.  Its dated to may 15 1917. They start off by explaining that the are speaking in the name of / support of the “ Russian Revolutionary Democracy”  and that as a people they didn’t wish to become involved with the war.  They go on to explain the adverse effects of Russia losing its freedoms.  Revolutionary russia was being threatened by a man power.   They are explaining to the soldiers on the battle front that they must fight to win or else “Revolutionary Russia” will be destroyed.  They are defending liberty in Russia because they are up against the German army that represents  When describing Russia in modern terms its described as being a communist country.

Cuando yo pensé sobre Hugo Chavez, yo pensé sobre un dictador, y un terrorista. ¡Yo pensé que él era loco! Yo tuve un perspectiva negativo sobre Venezuela porque yo pensé Chavez era un criminal. Ahorita, yo pienso que yo estoy una Chavista. Yo no estoy de acuerdo con todos de él perspectivas, pero yo no estoy un opuesto. Yo votaría por Chavez porque yo se él quiere el mejor por él la gente. Por ejemplo, porque él tiene muy alfabetismo alto velocidad por Venezuela, entonces yo se él gusta educación. Educación es muy importante para mi, y yo se que Chavez le gusta educación. Yo me gusta que nosotros aprendemos sobre muchas cosas en español, yo me gusta historia también. Esta unidad era muy interesante, y yo estoy informó porque yo entiendo la situación más.

​ Hola, mi nombre es Gonzalo Infante. Cuando yo era un poco niño, mi madre mostró un pintura a mi. Yo no tenía idea lo que yo era a pensar, pero yo era muy confundido. Yo era, y soy, de la clase alta. Cuando yo era joven, mi padre trabajó en otros países, entonces yo recibe muchas libros y cosas que otros niños no tienen porqué lo el censor. My madre era un momio, y mi padre era una izquierdista. Mi viva era… loco. Durante mi infancia, yo miré una revolución grande de Chile. El año era 1973. Salvador Allende, el presidente socialista, tenía la presidencia por tres años. Porque yo era de una familia rico, nosotros no nos gustó Allende. Ellos era feliz cuando Pinochet hago un golpe de estado.

La mayoría de la pintura está oscura. Sin embargo, los colores está brillante. En la pintura, los colores está muy extraño. Yo pienso Joan Miro es un pintor de surrealista, entonces yo creo que la pintura es un influencia de surrealismo. El zapato es enfrente de la pintura. Los colores es muy interesante porque no están ordinario. Yo diría que los colores están feo. El zapato es enfrente de todo, y aguardiente, el pan, y la papa está detrás. Verde, rojo, naranja, negro… Las colores en la pintura está cómo ondas. Las ondas rompen las imágenes aparte, y puso ellos de nuevo juntos. La comida tiene tintes de verde, lo que indica edad en la comida. Yo pienso veo una mesa por el zapato y la barra de pan. Yo veo una línea gruesa entre el zapato y pan, y la matraz y la papa. En el fondo, formas es en los colores. Las formas son como las nubes.

La comida en la pintura es no apetitoso. Cuando yo miro la pintura, yo pienso sobre la clase de obrera, y mis amigas Machuca y Silvana. Ellos vivieron en la clase obrera, muy lejos de mi casa en el distrito rico. En mi patria en 1973, General Pinochet decidido a tomar poder de Salvador Allende. Pinochet era de la clase alta, y la mayoría de la clase alta apoyaron él. Mi memoria es muy bien. Yo recuerdo muchas sobre los eventos, y las etapas que hicieron mi país un gobierno totalitario. La pintura hace me recordar mis amigos, y las problemas ellos enfrentaron. Yo me gusta la pintó porque yo miro vivo. Pero, no solo uno vivo. Yo miro muchas vivas. Yo creo que Joan Miro tuve una idea interesante con la esquema de color. Aunque el pan marrón está a medio comer, pero yo no pienso que ve saludable. Yo creo que Miro querido la comida a mirar llanura, que no quería la comida a mirar glorioso. La comida es una comida después un largo día de trabajo difícil. La clase de obrera tiene la comida de Miro. Mi vida tiene uno conexión a la pintura, ¡que ustedes no similar! Mi vida tiene criadas, tenedores brillantes y cuchillos brillantes, momios, secretos, riqueza. Pero cuando yo veo la pintura, yo veo ampollas, botas, quemaduras de sol, barbas espesas, aguardiente. La vida de un hombre pobre.

Yo pienso la pintura es una magnífica representación de las clases en sociedad.  Elegí la pintura porque yo pienso que Joan Miro es un artista con sabiduría grande. Yo estoy de acuerdo con Miro, y yo ahora pienso más en ello.

El Bosque: 47th y Warrington, 19143, Filadelfia, PA

Me llamo es Teodoro Bartolomeo

El nombre de mi mural es El Bosque. Aunque el mural es sencillo, yo creo que un bosque puede represente muchas cosas en la vida. El mural está ubicado en 47th y Warrington 19143 en Filadelfia, PA. El barrio es muy diverso porque muchos gente están estudiantes. Benny Lai de el restaurante de Vietnam dice que él vivido en la Ciudad de Universidad desde el año 1979. Él es un inmigrante. La mayoría de mi barrio es joven pero muy diverso. La historia de mi mural es también sencilla, pero el simbolismo es conmovedor. Pienso que bosques es similar a una comunidad porque todos tienen crecimiento. El crecimiento puede ser bueno, pero el crecimiento puede ser mal y deprimida a la comunidad. Filadelfia luchas con violencia, drogas, y se puede vista como un malo ciudad. Pero, muchas cosas hacen la ciudad magnífico. Creo que el arte público es muy importante a las comunidades porque las imágenes reflejan la gente de muchos barrios. El arte es diverso, y no es especial a uno grupo de personas. El crecimiento en una comunidad es las etapas a un mejor barrio. El bosque es mi representación de que creencia.

        El mural tiene un elemento que hace especial. Simbolismo es muy importante en el mural, porque sin simbolismo, las imágenes es solo árboles. Sin embargo, los árboles está muy magnífico. El papel de los árboles es mostrar crecimiento en un medio ambiente. El propósito de el mural es dar el observador un sentido de reflexión profundo. Los colores yo tengo están verde, un pequeño marrón, y blanco, pero, la mayoría está verde. Yo me gusta mis colores porque ellos representan lo que estoy tratando hacer. Verde es un color de vida, y crecimiento positiva. Porque la tema es sobre nuevo vida, yo creo que verde es un buen color. Sin embargo, el marrón es sobre el mal cosas. Las cosas mal están ocultos de el público, pero no necesariamente por las oficiales de la ciudad. La gente no les gustan los delitos y el vandalismo. Que es por qué los murales están importante. Son pintado por la gente de la comunidad de Filadelfia. ¿Quién pero la gente de Filadelfia haría a entender?

        El mensaje de mi pintura es sobre tranquilidad. Yo creo que arte público es sobre los opiniones de las personas de el área. Mi mural ubicado es cerca de un jardín de comunidad. Yo pienso que mi idea de crecimiento positiva y tranquilidad es sobre que filosofía. El propósito de arte público es a dar la gente un representación de visual de la vida. Mi mural es sobre la vida, y sobre comunidad. Como lo veo, el arte es por las personas, y no es ser oculto. El arte necesita a simbolizar las emociones y observaciones sobre las cosas en la vida. Yo creo que arte puede empoderar piensa creativa. Mi mural es arte porque la pieza represente mis opiniones, y es verdad a mi vida. Mi ubicación era importante también, porque yo quería a tener mi pintura con la ciudad. Mi muro es roto, y capeado, pero con los árboles el mural es muy interesante. El medio ambiente de el muro está difícil, pero el muro ubicada es en la jardín muy tranquilo, y que ayudan el mural a tener un mensaje. Yo estoy muy alegre a ser un muralista!

Mar Adentro - Rudolfo Teodoro Bartoloméo IV

Sinopsis:

La película se trata de la vida de Ramón Sampedro, y los eventos en su vida que toma él vida significa. Ramón era un tetrapléjico, y por veintiséis años fue confinado a sus recámara. Ramón era una poeta, y él escribió todo los días. Sin embargo, el parte más importante parte de la película es lo que Ramón quiere hacer con su vida. Porque él es miserable, Ramón quiere quitarse la vida. Porque la eutanasia no es legal en España, Ramón tiene un disputa con el gobierno. Él toma amigos en la película, y él encontra amor en una mujer. Una amiga es Rosa, un sólo madre que está enamorada él. La película es muy profundo porque de lo que Ramón Sampedro cree sobre la muerte. [SPOILER] Al final, Ramón quitarse la vida con el apoyo de Rosa y otros amigos. La familia de Ramón son muy triste. El padre de Ramón está triste porque sus hijo quería la muerte.

Las Preguntas:
La Película da muchas preguntas. Las preguntas es más sobre la muerte, pero amor también es presente. Ramón no es puede de amar físicamente, pero él tiene muchas emociones porque él tiene un fuerte mental. Pero, la película da la idea que Ramón quiere apoyar. ¿Entonces, Ramón se quiere Juliá, o es lo que quiere su apoya? También, porque Ramón quiere quitarse la vida. En la vida, matar es un crimen. La pregunta ahora están: Es eutanasia moral o inmoral? Yo creo que matar a una persona inocente está mal, entonces, está bien quitarse la vida? Las preguntas en la película está muy profundo, y crean controvertido discusiones. La película es no trata uno cosa, pero más que uno.   

Otro Pregunta con análisis:
¿Es la vida de una persona sólo sus, o es la vida también sobre otros personas? Yo creo que la vida es el más importante cosa, porque la vida y la muerte es lo que toma nosotros humano. Sin embargo, estoy en contra de el deseo de Ramón. Yo necesito respetar la decisión, pero no estoy de acuerdo que la vida sería mejor sin él. Yo voy nunca entenderé la situación de Ramón, pero no me gusta la decisión. Ramón no tenía la esperanza. Yo pienso que eutanasia era fácil por él. La vida de Ramón no era sólo sobre sus. Yo creo que algunas personas tienen vidas difícil, y creo que es injusto, pero la vida no deja de moverse. Nosotros no tenemos el control, nosotros creemos que nosotros hacer, pero, sólo cuando nosotros tenemos malos tiempos. Yo creo que la vida es más grande que una persona.

Mi Posición y Opinión:
Mi posición es muy complicado. Yo estoy confundido un poco, pero yo creo que yo tengo un buen comprensión. Yo creo que la eutanasia es muy complicado, y que yo no tengo el razón decir que es un mal porque yo estoy no en la posición de Ramón. Pero, yo no estoy de acuerdo sus decisión. Yo creo que la vida es sobre más que una persona, y que necesitamos a pensar sobre la vida como es más grande que nosotros. Mi opinión es religioso, pero yo no voy juzgo la gente que quieren la eutanasia. Yo creo que tenemos un propósito en el mundo, y que quitarse la vida es está desperdiciando es propósito. Finalmente, yo piensé la película era magnifico. Aunque yo no estoy de acuerdo Ramón Sampedro, yo piensé la película era muy profundo. Las muchas temas hacer la película muy fuerte, y conmovedor. Yo me gusta a pensar sobre temas como el temas en la película, y yo era puedo hacer que con Mar Adentro. La muerte de Ramón era digna, pero sólo por él. Que es lo que importante. La vida vale la pena.

Si yo estuviera en la situación, yo estuviera muy furioso. Yo tendría a ser muy fuerte con mi voz. Yo tendría hablar algo a Susan porque ella dijo que se casaría me. Yo sería muy furioso con Peter porque él es mi primo, y yo creo nosotros familia. Yo no sería ayudo la situación, yo haría la situación peor. Yo, en su lugar yo creo que yo sería haría nada. Yo sería muy deprimido, y no podía enfrente ellos.

Mi Máscara

​The purpose of this project was to create a mask that represented our own personality as well as any unknown attributes about ourselves. We posted the known attributes outside on the external part of the mask, while we posted the hidden attributes on the inside of the mask. This is to show the difference between what people know about us, and what they do not know. The obvious things would be skin color, hair color, height, and mannerisms/personality; the personal things would include things like political views, religious views, emotions, or just things that you don't normally flaunt. I chose to make my mask the face of a famous reindeer, because of the close ties I have to that animal.

            Yo me gusta el sol, pero soy muy blanco y mi ojos son muy sensible.

            Me gusta muchas cosas, y soy muy divertido. Tengo dos hermanas y dos padres. Yo quiero mi familia, y me gusta mi perro. No soy alto, soy media. Soy fuerte, y mi hombres es grande por mi tamaño. Mi pelo es moreno y rubio. Mi ropa es bueno, pero no me gusta comprar muy caro ropas por que no tengo muchas dinero.

            En el futuro, espero que yo tendré ellos. Me gusta deportes, pero sol cuando juego ellos. Yo no es admirador de profesional deportes, pero yo me gusta los deportes de universidad. Pienso que los atletas son muy talentoso, y juegan por diversión.

            Tengo dos hermanas, y me gusta ellas muchísima, pero a veces ellas me molesta, pero yo también quiero mi familia. Mis padres se gusta a broma con mi y mi hermanas. Ellos están gracioso y a veces yo pienso ellos se loco. Soy una persona muy permisiva.

            Mis amigos son un grande influye, mi estilo de música, mi amor para divertido, mi capacidad a hablar... Ellos me influyen mucho. La Música es muy importante a mi. Yo quiero muchas géneros: hip-hop, folk, alternativo, experimental, y roca. No me gusta R&B, yo pienso que R&B es trillado.

            Yo era chico de sur, pero después yo vivió en Nueva York por cinco años, yo era un chico de cuidad. Porqué yo tengo vivió en muchas áreas, yo tengo muchos amigos. Yo pienso que yo aprecio mis amigas para que razón. 

 Privado o Personal: 

Yo primera persona el treinta de agosto, 1994. Yo primera persona en Athens, Georgia, y yo primera persona en Georgia por seis meses. Nosotros mudamos a Lexington, South Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia, y Nueva York, Nueva York y Filadelfia, Pennsylvania. Yo aprecio letras de canciones, yo pienso que ustedes muy importante, y que a veces, canciones con mal letras de canciones son mal. Yo me gusta escribo letras de canciones, yo tengo una banda, y yo estoy la guitarrista, y el cantante. Yo me gusta intento a escribo letras de canciones buenas.

Además, yo me gusta escribir, y yo entiendo que escribir es muy importante. Valgo mucho de leer. Yo aprecio los clásicos de Estados Unidos. Yo me gusta el estilo de Americana. Mi autores favoritas es Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, y John Irving. Yo también me gusta Stephen King, Cormac McCarthy, Josh Ritter, y P.D. James. Ernest Hemingway escribes sobre España, y yo quiero ir a España porqué yo leído los libros. Yo me gusta P.D. James porqué ella tiene vocabulario grande. Ella es muy creativo, y muy profundo. Cormac McCarthy escribes con muchas descripciones. La historia es muy magnífico. Él estas único.

Yo soy una persona que quiere buen estilo de vivo. Yo quiero ser un bueno hombre. Yo me gusta a tocar mi guitarra todo los días. Me gusta música, y creo que música es muy importante en mi vida. Soy simpática, se dice que yo soy divertido. Mis amigos es muy importante a mi, me gusta ellos.

Soy religioso, y soy serio sobre mi religión, cristianismo. No aprendo qué yo quiero en mi vida, pero quiero a ser un bueno hombre. Además, yo quiero mi familia y mis amigos a ser muy orgulloso de me.

English Language Scene

“Ok kids, this is Tucker Bartholomew. He just moved here from Virginia, and he’ll be joining us next week. Turn around now.”

            I stood in the back of the classroom with my dad and little sister. I stood there rather awkwardly for a seven year old, not really knowing if I should wave, or if I should say something. The teacher, Ms. Gandy, told me to come up to the front. I walked up to the front while my dad and sister waited in the back. I realized that if I didn’t say anything now, it would be considered impolite.

            “Hey ya’ll,” I said. This resulted in fits of giggles that only six and seven year olds can do and get away with. I was a little confused, wondering if my attire was inappropriate seeing as this was a uniformed school. It wasn’t like I was starting school today though so I didn’t get too embarrassed.  

            “Tucker and his family just moved into their apartment up on the west side. Who else here lives on the west side?” Three of the twelve students raised their hands. Zach Whitford, whom I had already met the day before, was one of them. He seemed like a nice kid. He talked pretty fast, however.

            “Ah think Ah met a few already.” More giggles.

            “Now class, what are you laughing at?” asked the teacher. An unusually petite girl named Gabriella Rovalino, answered before anyone one else could.

            “He talks funny.” This brought a repeat of the hearty laughs. This took me aback. I had never thought about the way I talked. Everybody talked like I talked, at least in Virginia. In the next few weeks I discovered that I did in fact speak differently than these New Yorkers. I realized that there is such a thing as accents.

I had always known my grandparents had southern accents. When my grandparents visited us, even in Virginia, sometimes people could not understand them. I became a translator. In the north, no one could understand them. After that, I started noticing more differences. People aren’t friendly; they don’t look at you in the subway, and they especially don’t want you to talk to them for whatever reason.

            I realized at that young age that language could affect opinions. Southerners talk more slowly, like molasses rolling off the tongue in words. People in New York always talked like they had something better to do at that moment. This, of course, is not necessarily true all the time. It’s a stereotype that I established. Stereotypes and their underlying assumptions divide the north and the south. James Baldwin once wrote, “Language, incontestably, reveals the speaker.” This is true in many different settings. People hear the way southerners speak, or they hear the way northerners speak, and they form opinions based on speech whether or not they are true. My future first grade classmates and possibly even my teacher labeled me as “slow” or naïve from my first “hey y’all.”

            I never really knew how to respond. I was too shy to really defend myself, so I ended up not talking as much as I usually did. This is when I first began to realize that the way you speak matters. My ideas of speech have matured over the years to the point where I understand better why it matters. I now understand why my grandparents often feel uncomfortable visiting in city areas. No one likes to be laughed at.

            I’ve never felt largely uncomfortable in a situation where I spoke differently until I went to my Uncle Nub’s funeral in 7th grade. I had been living in Philly for several years. His name was not actually Nub. It was Curtis. Everyone called him Nub because, as a teenager, he laid his hand on the chopping block and dared his older brother to chop off his finger while the brother was chopping wood. His brother accepted the dare, resulting in the missing end of Uncle Curtis's middle finger. Incidentally, that brother is the one who gave him the nickname, Nub. 

Uncle Curtis was a man of stories and colorful language, so naturally he had many friends. As we were waiting in line for Barbeque before the service, my granddaddy was in line in front of us.  I had not seen him in years so I didn’t really know him or his second wife Helen. The topic of northerners came up when I said something very Philadelphian, and Helen said, “Don’t you ever become a Yankee. Don’t ever become one of them. You remember where you were born.”

            Although the next comment was a discreet comment from my older sister saying, “But also remember where you're being raised Tucker. And that’s the north!”

            This sent me into a whirlpool questions and concerns on how I would define myself. Am I from the south, or am I from the north? Do I adapt my speech to the people around me or do I simply decide not to care what others think? If I were asked where I am now from based on how I speak, I would say the north. I speak like I go to a high school in the north, which I do. I’m glad, however, that I have already gone through this sense of questioning where I’m from. I’m a bit wiser because of the questions that I have wrestled with and the answers I have developed. Realizing at a young age that language does creates opinions forced me to consider who I was and who I wanted to be.
